SUMAYA'S KITCHEN: 75-YEAR-OLD CHOP BAR IN TAMALE
This is an inspirational story of a women-led indigenous food business at Sakasaka, a suburb in Tamale, Ghana that has lasted for three generations.
It forms part of Mpuntusem's Ghana Narratives Series which documents and preserves unique & impactful stories for public education.
Some key lessons from the story include;
1. Indigenous spices have been used from the beginning of the business to date
2. Being charitable is a core aspect of the business as they make available food everyday to feed the destitute such as mad people and sometimes stranded travelers.
3. The business is family and community oriented and it forms an integral part of the history of Tamale, particularly Sakasaka.
NB: Filming for this documentary was done in early 2020 before Ghana recorded its first COVID-19 case.
