Sokullu was smart, he would not risk his life for anyone that's why he chose to be on Selim's side, Selim was heavily dependent on him and even married his daughter to him to keep him closer, he had no fear of losing his head. In the end, hurrem's team betrayed her son bayezid and left him all alone.

At this time Ibrahim was the best choice. He is Suleiman slave turned into sworn brother, of course Suleiman would expect the best from Ibrahim. You can't blamed Ibrahim either. Suleiman literally let Ibrahim handle everything. He rarely goes to the court. Suleiman would rather spend his time reading Qor'an or with Hurrem all day. And there's 3 things that corrupt man. Women, wealth and power. All man, except prophet and saint would turn greedy and arrogant when the entire empire sits on their lap.

They are whispering about a guy about ten feet away. The old man must be deaf to not hear any of that.
