My brother in law and first cousin are criminal lawyers, and I have done the LPC . With my experience, a lot of it pretense to get the clients coming back. Take it with anpinch of salt, because they would not allow any of these people around their children

i have been a heroin addict and been jailed a few times for shop thefts even as an addict i never ever thought about doing anything like that and never ever would no matter how bad i needed money id never grab any old persons bag even if i knew id get away with it it just something id never do

Can someone tell me what incentives the firm has to do good business for their clients? If it’s a flat fee as duty solicitor / legal aid then what incentive do they have? To be honest a lot of these people seem uncooperative and I can see there being a temptation to give up with them, but they’re still entitled to proper defence.

Reputation, solicitors get the vast majority of their custom from recommendations by previous clients, their reputations are everything to them. Ego is another big driver for them.

Because they care a little bit, they like their job and flat fee means safe work and clientele that never ends

those guilty of breaking in and stealing are getting away with the crime bc they knew to cover their faces, wear gloves, and get in and out asap. yet the guy obviously isnt a harden criminal gets to do the time purely bc the crown wants to make an example of him to hopefully stop others in the future. Thusly they will try and nail him to the wall

I been heroin addict for 15 years i been in prison for shoplifting but its never crossed my mind and neither would it to ever rob any old women its something id never even think about no matter how badly i needed money even if i knew id get away with its still something id never do and i dont get on with any police but if i knew someone who was robbing old women id be first 1 there telling hem who he was after id put in hospital for doing it

Because access to justice must be available to all. This includes helping members of society who would not be able to afford legal aid otherwise

Am I the only person who thinks there should be a limit on how many times a person can claim legal aid? 22 times must have cost the taxpayer hundreds of thousands and without putting too fine a point on it, is taking the piss. OK, we all might face a situation where legal aid is helpful and even necessary . . . maybe some of us might face it a few times in our lives, but 22??? When you've been arrested and charged that many times I would cut taxpayer assistance - there are more deserving cases where truly vulnerable people could benefit from that money.

The first solicitor should quit the profession. What a disgrace. The prosecution are the ones who have to prove intent to steal or cause harm/injury and from the CCTV it was not clear whether he did intend to steal or not. To suggest that he should plead guilty just for the sake of it is purely professionally negligent.

Tbh yes but... It is realistic in a Magistrates. They like to convict. In front of a jury, given the choice, he has a far better chance, but far greater potential penalty if found guilty. The system is what should take the blame. Including improper audit of legal work conducted by solicitors and access to services by Defendants. The system is corrupt.

What gets me is whenever I’ve been slapped around literally or verbally, abused or threatened. I’ve never called the police on a partner. But I’ve literally had them call the police on me simply because I didn’t want to hand them my phone when I was sending a text message.

Is it not possible to decline a police interview in England? I ask because at one point in this video a lawyer practices with her client by asking him questions and having him respond, "No comment." It seems to me it would be far easier to just decline the interview.

I'm not too sure if you can or cant. But by going "no commet" has its disadvantages and advantages. Disadvantages of " no comment " would be blatantly telling the police you are guilty in someway, either directly or indirectly. Cos anyone who is completely innocent would say " well I was here and so on " cos you have nothing to hide. Its advantages are you can hear what type of evidence the police have against you and it helps you not mess up. Cos if you try to lie on the spot the police might ask you have you ever been to " tescos in Dover before"? Cos ur being asked things on the spot you might say no and they got you on cctv . Which now proves ur a lier and why would you lie unless ur hiding guilt. So now when going to court it's harder to convince the jury and and so on. So no comment can help you judge what type of evidence they have. Sometimes they have no evidence, but because you have messed up so much in the interview they charge you after. And sometimes they let you go after u do no comment cos no evidence and you haven't been caught out lying so it's hard to pin it on you.

I'll give you a tip regarding Identification Parades . You can actually take your own stooges to stand in the line up . They won't get the police appearance money . Handy if you have brothers , cousins or friends that resemble you . It can put a lot of doubt in the eye witnesse's recollection .

I agree with the situation regarding Tim near the end of this video where the lawyer says he needed treatment so he would not end up in jail again. To jail him forever long without treatment is nonsensical and this type of thing needs to end with courts. Heck I live in supposedly one of the better nations for healthcare and people just love Canada and I tell you our judicial system and our healthcare system is trash when you look at closely. I have asked for a group to help with a gambling issue in a city that has a racetrack which is now getting slots again and there also is a full fledged casino plus a bingo hall that has slots in it and there are no Gamblers Anonymous groups around here and there is just one person to pick at our local hospital to help with the issue and when I got ill her office and herself forgot all about me. They never contacted me again about an appointment or to just check in and see how I was doing. Anyway hopefully this Tim sorted out his life and in my 47th year I hope I sort mine out too but it would be nice if healthcare was made better for all around the world to nip bad habits / behaviors in the bud before they get out of hand.

So you had a connection to someone at the local hospital, got ill, and it's THEIR fault that they didn't chase you down to continue trying to force help on you? No, no addict will get better so long as they continue to make excuses for their own behaviour, while blaming everyone else for not saving them from themselves. There is help out there, but YOU have to step up and be determined to fix your ish.

I'm the adult child of an alcoholic, I understand addiction and the chaos it creates. Also all the excuses and blame-shifting. BTW: Don't s-icide bait. It's another example of an addicts manipulative behaviour and it won't work on me. When I say personal responsibility, I don't mean try to kick the addictions on your own. Of course you need professional help! And I agree with the point that it would be great if there were better access to mental healthcare worldwide. But there needs to be personal responsibility in that you will seek out the help and apply the lessons. Self help groups, most Anonymous groups also have online meetings BTW, working extra hours to pay for private therapy if you can't get on the waitlist for counselling via your GP, etc. But, you said: " there is just one person to pick at our local hospital to help with the issue and when I got ill her office and herself forgot all about me. They never contacted me again about an appointment or to just check in and see how I was doing." That was an example of you blaming others for your problems. It was your job to follow up with them. You said yourself that there was only one doc there, but you expect them to chase you down and find out why you're not keeping appointments!! No. Not when there are addicts who are ready to accept the help and put the work in, they're not going to chase you down and beg you to let them help. accept when you are in the wrong - like blaming the doc above, when you apparently dropped out of contact without following up with them yourself. That was your part of the healing process that no one else can do for you. An addict has to be ready and willing to recover.

Tim was trying it on with his communal service he saw it as punishment and not getting paid,It was a GIFT from the judge he gave him a second chance and he blew it believing they would forget about him,He learnt the hard way which could have been avoided,I know you have pity for him,We have the NHS not some crappy insurance scam,I don't believe he needs mental health care,Just steer clear of certain alcohol beverages,And you find a bus pass or a wallet hand it in

Because whether you are innocent or guilty, especially innocent, NEVER answer police questions without your solictor/attorney present. Innocent people have been convicted for speaking. Whatever you say can and will be framed and twisted to jam you up.

For smaller crimes I do actually believe that they should go hard on their community service and no criminal record to begin with that would be much better for society than paying to keep people in jail And actually give them a chance when they come out not to repeat out of desperation. Someone who goes in on something minor like drug crimes coming out with a criminal record and no extra qualifications plus having missed advancements in society like computers is just going to return to the same life purely out of desperation most likely.

I was tazed by south wales police because of miss identity i was paid £130,000 in compo. Its not about the money and i had my day in court and made them out to be complete incompetent wankers, which they where. 1st offer was £13k second was £40k which i refused and had my day in court. Judge was appalled by their actions and granted me the £130k compo 2hich was nice, but it was much nicer to see the 2 officers faces that done this,, head between legs is an understatement lol. Happy with the outcome tho!!

A community order doesn't always involved unpaid work. In his case it seems supervision, repayment of stolen monies and tagging and the conditions of the order. Unpaid work for the retired/ disabled are not really used.

I take my hat of too the guy who said no to the 8 grand and took them to court. They spent more than 8 grand on there defence so you did still win mate. Took one for the team that’s all. That was about saying no this isn’t acceptable. Not taking a bribe. So good on you brother

Oh same woman, whose other ex literally smashed her head into the wall so bad he called the cops himself because he actually thought he killed her and she never filed charges. Funny how people work.

My ex literally slapped me around forced me to sit in a chair, not move my head. I never called police anybody. yet she goes and gets drunk slams into the wall gets bruises all over her body and I almost got arrested. All she would’ve had to do is say yes he hit me and I go to jail.

"I am out of the camera for few seconds only" I am sorry, but it's 8 seconds, which in jewellery shop is enough time to get quite a bit of stuff and put it in your pocket. And even if you didn't take anything - no need to get there in the first place, because stores quite often does this: they put all the stolen items on one person that they caught. So by entering that store he already became a thief, even if he didn't take anything.
