Murder In Paradise (Crime Documentary) | Real Stories

Murder In Paradise (Crime Documentary) | Real Stories
In the early hours of 15th September, two British backpackers, Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were found dead, brutally beaten just yards from their hotel in Koh Tao, Thailand.
A paradise attracting thousands of tourists every year, their deaths took to 13 the number of British visitors killed in Thailand over the last five years. There have been more since and it has been argued that authorities are so anxious to protect the tourist industry that deaths of Westerners often go unexplained or classed as suicides.
With exclusive images, never-before-seen evidence and interviews with key figures on the island, Murder in Paradise sheds new light on a global news story, putting Thailand under the spotlight and asking whether this is still the travel destination from heaven, or hell?

CCTV footage from 7-Eleven store shows they bought cigarettes (same brand found at the crime scene) 2. DNA found in vagina match both of them 3. Cigarette butts found at the crime scene match both of them 4. David's IPhone was buried at their renting house. Have you ever heard all of these information before? DNA fingerprinting results are automatically saved to computer and if someone try to falsify the results, it would be easily detected. The DNA tests were completed at least 10 days before they were arrested.

The only one who was there when they died (caught on cctv running) was the same guy who "found the bodies" hmmm... They swabbed all of those people but not him? (At least not accurately) also....why was Seam who was bleeding (who probably knows what happened) hushed not to speak out? What does that matter unless the mafia were trying to hide something? Also why all the other murders (including after?) They are innocent. The guy who found them said someone woke him up frantically! Why him? Then doesn't that mean that person saw it first? Where are they?? I believe he went to go try to check the scene for the weapons or to hide any evidence left behind. But he missed the ax the weapon that didn't contain the 2 barnese men's DNA. I’m English & the same age as Hannah. I was on the island when this happened. I remember It took them so long to close off the island (which would have been relatively easy as the only access is by boat) and preserve the crime scene. Photos of the mutilated bodies spread across the internet like wildfire. I loved Thailand, but this definitely made me aware of the dangers, and the huge issues with the police over there. Personally I’ve always thought it was another tourist who committed the murders & the Burmese workers were simply scapegoats, easy targets because they had no legal representation, spoke a different language, and ultimately were tortured with no repercussions for the police. It was all about painting the illusion of control, if they hadn’t made arrests, It could have threatened the tourist industry which Thailand relies on so heavily. The way the mayor spoke about the deaths of tourists makes my blood boil as well. Absolutely awful for the victims and their families.

GhastlyCretin85 the photos are police photos and it’s never been confirmed how they were released to the public domain. I think it’s another tourist for a few reasons, firstly the lack of police on the island make it an ideal place for crime. The only aggression I ever saw when I was in Thailand was tourists fighting other tourists. I think it’s more likely that it was someone who attended the same party that they did, I think Hannah maybe turned someone down and that person couldn’t let it go, and David either interrupted or witnessed what happened. I could be completely wrong, but I’ve seen the crime scene photos (they are horrendous) and Hannah’s injuries were a lot more severe, as if she was the intended target.

Sad to hear this. I'm a Malaysian nearby to Thailand. Been to phuket, koh samui, phi phi island, bangkok etc many times for holidays with friends. Thank god so far we have pleasant experiences. Just want to remind on WESTERNERS TOURISTS to be extra careful while there. 1. Dont drink & party until u lost your memory and unable to control yourself 2. RESPECT the locals even just the passersby or shop workers, any locals that u may think they're insignificant. 3. Dont ever act or talk RUDE or CURSE the locals. 4. Dont even start to pick a fight with the locals. Just dont trigger or press their button 5. If there's any misunderstanding or issues with the locals even the hotel, jus settle it nicely and talk politely. NO SHOUTING or better just say sorry and walk away if its your fault. If you start any of these you might be in trouble or worse end up dead. And sadly no body knows how you're dead and who caused it. Just listen to 33:34. You see here they dont like tourists do whatever they want on their land. one moment, you could be drinking with your friends you're drunk and didnt aware of what you say or do, you bump into locals bcz you're too drunk and started cursing them and humiliate them, trigger their anger and cause a fight that could lead to murder. this is TRUE STORY. Thailand is a beautiful place, but we all aware that you need to be extra careful when dealing with locals there especially when you're staying at budget hotels area. Sadly i heard many locals said western tourists are ignorance, big headed, very rude and disrespect d locals, and they like to do whatever they want on the island and it pisses d locals authorities so if any issue arise they tend to want to teach them a lesson.

You gave some excellent advice, but don't expect stupid drunk Westerners to listen. Anyone who is well traveled knows not to get drunk or act in a stupid way. They have no respect for the locals, and have no sense of awareness of where they are, they just assume they can act like they are at home. The worst kind of Westnerner is the drunk and party goer. Just be a normal tourist and refrain from acting like a buffon and you won't get killed.

I believe the guy that "found the bodies" is one of the people involved and that he ran back in the morning to hide any evidence...but he missed the hoe(or couldn't move it in time.) I dont believe for a second that he was not involved as he was also the person running on the cctv late that prior night around the time of the murders. With such a sloppy unplanned murder. The one seen around the crime the most is MOST LIKELY INVOLVED. heLLOOOO!!! like really its pretty clear to me that he was involved. Sean was clearly threatened because he was probably there. The mishandled or lack of investigation and obvious corruption/lies/hiding of evidence by the police show an INSANE LEVEL OF MISCONDUCT. & now these 2 people who were most definitely tortured for their confession just because the one had the phone, were framed. I truly believe they were. Also I wonder who's cigarette butts those were? Were they even tested? Were they planted? Was anyone asked if they even smoked?? Too many things implicate the police and the guy who "found" them? This is just crazy and this case should have been overturned!!! No questions asked. These 2 innocent young men were tortured & framed. Without them allowing for a retest of the evidence for DNA in a controlled regulated environment...they should have never been sentenced. & no trial? No opinion allowed by the forensic expert? How much more corrupted could the justice system be?!"

People go on vacation to remote, or underdeveloped areas, they drink to much and do crazy things. You have to keep in mind that traffic risks are the same wherever you go. Pavement is just as hard, rocks are just as hard and gravity works all over the planet. Not to mention, depending on your location, they may or may not have advanced medical services. Do you really want some local Dr. on a remote island trying to cut into your skull to relieve intracranial pressure? I am not saying don't have fun but be aware of where you are and what you are doing. Would you get drunk and ride a moped without a helmet at home? Would you climb that rock at home? For me there will alway be a question yhy this girl never listened to her parents when they told her not to go to that Island. Obedience to parents is a blessing. And even after hearing all other British young people who had been murdered in the same Island, people still ho there. European tourists should stop visiting or boycott this Island so that Island suffers economically. What is the beauty of Khotao Island if it is going to cost innocent young lives? Definitely the Thai Police are covering the real culprits.

When you have so many young people soo drunk and soo stoned day after day, people are going to die sadly. So just to clarify. I am not saying murder is OK, What I am saying is that when you go to another country where the majority do not respect or like you because of your behavior and lack of understanding of the culture, your chances of getting hurt, or murdered are far greater

Been to Thailand many times and it is amazing how people act, I know they wouldn't act the same in whichever country they come from. A good example is all the road rashes you see on them, mostly from driving drunk. It is still a great place and with millions of people moving in and out of the country every year.
