Ted is a character you legitimately could make a spin off game from, sort of like Nash in the Suikogaiden games. His story spans 300 years.

"Village of the Hidden Rune" C'mon, villagers. If you really want the rune to remain hidden, maybe you shouldn't advertise that your village is the hiding place for the rune. This bugged me all the way back in 96 when I first played the game. They're just asking for trouble.

WE AGREE! If we are remembering correctly he's legitimately the best or second best Caster in the game! :D And the Soul Eater Rune is Tarrens favorite. And let's face it a team walks up with not one but TWO of the most destructive true runes in existence and you're probably not gonna want to fight it.

yes lets underestimate ted's character because of so many years of isolation he was so easy to leave SE behind and then praise Lazlo

I dont get it. He first got the soul eater in suikoden 1 then suikoden 4 is the past so did he travel back on the time of suikoden 4?.

SPOILERS!!! He didn't GET it during Suikoden 1; he already hAD it in Suikoden 1. Ted got the Soul Eater 300 years before Suikoden 1; the scene you see later in the game, in the Village of the Hidden Rune, was either time-travel caused by the Soul Eater and the Night Rune (Star Dragon Sword / Zodiac Sword) interacting with each other, OR, the Soul Eater was showing you Ted's (and his Grandfather's) memories of that invasion and for some odd reason you could actually interact with them. Other games demonstrate that the second one is more likely the answer, as in Suikoden 4, you also visit memories of previous bearers of your True Rune of Punishment and interact with them (that, and, Ted didn't recognise you from his memories of that event, implying you didn't actually travel to them; although he could've realised and just kept his mouth shut). After the raid on the Village of the Hidden Rune, Ted took the Soul Eater and fled, wandering for a while before he boarded the Fog Ship and handed his Rune to the Captain; eventually coming off the ship due to Lazlo's (Suiko 4 hero) intervention and travelling with him for a while. Suikoden 4 was 150 years after his village was destroyed, and 150 years beFORE Suikoden 1. So, no, he didn't time travel. He just lived a vERY long time :)
