Sugar is one of the purest ingredients and a natural carbohydrate, found in fruits, vegetables and nuts. All green plants produce sugar (sucrose) through photosynthesis, a natural process that turns sunlight into energy.
Sugar is harvested from sugar beets, root vegetables that grow in cooler climates, and sugar cane plants, tropical grasses that grow up to 20 feet tall. Sugar beet and sugar cane go-to sources for sugar because they have the highest percentage of sucrose of all plants. For both, the refining process removes all impurities and the surrounding plant matter, leaving only pure sucrose.
Sugar Beet Processing
1. Sugar beets are harvested from farms in cooler weather climates, such as Minnesota, Michigan, Wyoming and Idaho and then sent to nearby factories.
• Sweet fact: Sugar beets are harvested seasonally, so factories usually operate around the clock, seven days a week, for four to seven months a year.
2. At factories, sugar beets are washed and sliced into thin strips, called cossettes. The cossettes go through a large tank called a diffuser to extract raw juice.
3. The raw juice is filtered to remove impurities, forming a syrup.
4. Sugar crystalizes from the syrup.
5. The sugar crystals are separated from the syrup in a centrifuge.
6. Crystals are dried.
7. Sugar is packaged and shipped to grocery stores and food manufacturers.

Why can people produce a bulky machine like this, it takes up a lot of harvesting area and is ineffective?
Humongous farm 😊 I used to work on small farm picking beets by hand and after rain in mud,my boots so heavy w mud I could barely walk 😂
Really awesome process and explanation of how the beets are grown, harvested and processed, but highly processed sugars are not by any research or research methods part of a natural healthy diet.

What is that additive? Sea crystal and what. Besides being gmo we didn't have mass diabetes until beet sugar and corn syrup. I will stick with natural cane sugar.

I think we also just didn't eat as much sugar of any kind. I remember getting oranges at Christmas as very special when I was a kid....you didn't see them all years, like we do now. A lot of processed food has sugar, I remember "TV dinners" were looked at like space ship food as a kid.

We vrow sugar beets here in Southern Ontario 🇨🇦. The practice is to harvest the beets and then store them in open concrete pens, several acres in size. They are left in the sun to dry and ferment. At least they smell like they are fermenting from the smell. My impression is that they stay there for a month or so. They they are taken to the processing plant.

Yes, it’s great. Genetic enhancement has made the plant much more resilient with reduced crop losses for the farmer and much greater production of sugar. A plus for everyone!
