I remember the old Imperial Sugar company in Texas we used to drive by on the way to the Gulf of Mexico to go swimming and surfing . That was damn hard work! I tried my hand at cutting cane for a summer job one time , I lasted a month and that was it !!!

@@bottle1lack743 the old days the cane in the field was cut by hand with a large machete like blade, the hauled by wagon to the mill. knives cut the stack down to smaller pieces before going into the mill rollers which squeezed the juice out of it. it was a very dangerous occupation back then. its still hazardous now but not like before.

is that a FULTON Mill? made in USA? where are the mill housings with rolls? those chevrons on that one roll is a Fulton patent. a normal Fulton Mill would have at least 4 mill tandem units, high productivity units would have 6 mill units, with Top roll, Feed roll, Bagasse Roll and 4th roll. by the time the juice is finally squeezed out, it is 98% moisture free. i worked 28 years for Fulton Iron and Manufacturing, St Louis Missouri. and rolls i have turned and grooved [120+] are in use around the world. Fulton is the oldest name in Sugar Mill extraction equipment in the world, since 1850.

@@bottle1lack743 1984-2007 i worked at fulton. took Machinist union pension and moved to Montana. i did work in Mt for 10 more years machining plastics till full retirement in 2017

These are indigenously made mills from manufacturers like Thyssenkrupp or Walchandnagar in India…. What’s shown here is the Fibrizor, Leveller and chopper applications…

It sure would be nice if somebody explained this manufacturing process, even if it's just captions.

Right? My understanding of sugar refining after watching this is that throw the cane on conveyor belt after conveyor belt. The cameraman lost interest after the 28th conveyor and went home! Was the beige stuff at the end sugar, or was it the waste product of the process? Guess we’ll never know!

the milling factory MUST BE CLEAN from beginning to end.the entire facility must be clean to ensure a healthy product.there is mo problem with old machines as long as they are clean and well mainted.

you do understand that snakes, bugs, mice rats, and yes sometimes humans get into the cutting and crushing process. it doesn't shutdown for such minor details. the bleaching of the sugar usually kills all the bacteria

a sugar mill grinding/extraction is just about the nastiest industrial operation known to man. if you have ever machined the equipment or assembled it on site like i have, you would see what i'm talking about.

All this metal grindings and rubber all part of the sugar we eat 😀

around the world, generally in equatorial areas. mills i personally machined have gone to Egypt, Pakistan, Vietnam, Colombia, Venezuela, Florida and Louisiana USA, Cuba, among others

the bottom dropped out of the sugar market back in the 1990s. it was going really cheap on the open market and a lot of smaller refineries went out of business.
