Suez Canal: Extra tugs brought in to remove ship
Suez Canal salvage teams are alternating between dredging and tugging as they continue to try to dislodge a massive container ship blocking the busy waterway.
Dredgers have so far shifted 27,000 cubic metres of sand, to a depth of 18m (59ft) with work set to continue around the clock.
Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al Sisi has ordered preparations for the possible removal of some of the ship's cargo to help refloat it.

Why aren't they using CH-47 Chinook helicopter or other cargo lifting helicopters to lift the containers off ? They could be running at least 6 copter rotating them all night lifting off across the top. I would had started this a day ago.

Taking containers off of the top is a brilliant idea. Putting them on another ship makes sense also. There is no end to the marvelous capabilities of the human mind. The unloading and loading gestures were extremely helpful in trying to fathom the complex work of moving containers from one ship to another.
At 13 Knots, speed, hitting the Canal, caused this major problem. A 3 knots, there would have been no problem.
There is hundreds of ships behind the ever given , if they all go in reverse at the same time , the will create a 30 foot wave and lift out the ship. Your welcome.

everyone is pointing the blame at the captain but for me the main blame goes to the egyptians in charge of the suez, who have made many billions of pounds in revenue from the ships that have passed through year upon year,but have spent nothing to prevent this from happening or planned anything in the event of it happening.

A few extra tugs are always welcome...
Could have been offloading cargo on day one. Surprised that immediate remedial offloading is not a canal contractual requirement for ships obstructing traffic. Likely it is a requirement that is being given delayed enforcement. Could there be much more going on here in the geopolitical scene?

Possible the Egyptian government are slow and tight fisted to bring in heavy equipment needed to solve it. Would have expected nations to be rushing to help though (which is suspicious in itself)

It's too heavy. 200k tons. Plus it's formed suction on the bottom.. They should start unloading and keep digging. Maybe even build a temporary dam to raise water level. This is not an easy fix
Unloading of the ship must be top priority, as with partial unloading stability of recovery may not end in fiasco damaging the main ship. It is better to get small ships two or three and transfer the load before pulling the struck container ship.

Can anyone tell me if its even capable to floating again? Like the weight where its stuck will that not have damaged the super structure? What happens if it starts to buckle?

Why dont they send in another big ship? I am pretty sure that has the power to move this one. They could hook their anchors together to pull it out.

@@chuckd366 I assumed it can withstand significant force, as it actually holds the ship at place when it is anchored. They could pull it with less force than what the anchor is designed to withstand.
The former chairman is thinking he is glad he left when he did.

great efforts by the canal teams the ship is almost free without off loading and reloading the containers which would have taken even longer time

After those strong Dutch tug boats arived that container ship was quickly freed.
