Sue Bird's famous Big East Tournament buzzer-beater needs a deep rewind | 2001 UConn vs. Notre Dame
Спорт
In 2001, the previously one-sided rivalry between Connecticut and Notre Dame finally turned in the Irish's favor as injuries weakened a typically unbeatable UConn team. But in the middle of that season's shift, the Big East Tournament Final stands on its own as a back and forth battle that wasn't settled until the very last moment.

Sue Bird is a legend. Her resume is about as impressive as it gets. Five-time Olympic gold medalist Four-time WNBA Champion Two-time NCAA Champion Won a national high-school championship at Christ the King High School, a Euroleague title, and Russian Superleague title Four-time FIBA World Championship gold medalist College Player of the Year 2-time All American Eleven-time WNBA All-Star WNBA All-Decade Team All-time WNBA assist leader Edited: She won another WNBA title. I've enjoyed this video series and to be honest with all the NBA stars talking about the WNBA I've started paying more attention to women's sports. I still don't personally find it as exciting as the NBA but I have to admit I definitely failed to give women's athletics the fair chance it deserved!

@@JonEffinZoidberg I just don't find watching most womens sports interesting. The level of athleticism between top-level male athletes and top-level female athletes is a huge gap. I find watching women's sports at the highest level similar to watching male high school sports.

Sadly, it's a reality of the women's game. They're something like 5x more common in women than men, and basketball's pretty much the worst sport for them. Poor Shea Ralph had the worst ACL issues of any player, and it wound up keeping her from playing pro even though she was a phenomenal player.

There’s already a good 30 for 30 on it.
not that's it's any important but the fact Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi were on the same college team and are both the GOATs of the WNBA is one of the most underrated sports storylines.
This made me curious about WNBA stats, which lead me to finding that the Uconn starting 5 consists of 3 members of the top 20 scorers ever in the WNBA, including the all-time scoring leader.
Seattle loves Sue Bird!
So Swin Cash, DT, and Sue Bird ALL went to UConn??? 3 of the most dominant WNBA players ever from the same school, at the same time! That's impressive.

The 2001-2002 team was hands down THE best team ever to play in the women's college game. Went 39-0, had four top ten draft picks (Bird, Cash, Asjha Jones, Tamika Williams), had the greatest women's player ever (Taurasi), two other drafted players (Jessica Moore and Ashley Battle), etc. And all but one of team members is still in the sports world as of 2022.

This is an awesome series with a great premise. Many of us have seen these plays out of context and they’re not that special. Giving the clips context makes them so much better.
Thanks for doing this video! I've only followed the WNBA for a couple of years and had no idea about Bird or Taurasi's college careers.
I love basketball and Sue Bird a basketball legend
I'm a huge Seattle Storm fan loved Sue Bird, Swin Cash & Lauren Jackson. Didn't know Cash, Bird & suprisingly Taurasi were on the same UConn squad at one time. Kinda sad because I know all the schools NBA players went too and their teammates. WNBA should get more of like an NBATV type station too.

Please do JR Smith's headscratching decision against the Warriors in Game 1 of 2018 NBA Finals.
I read the book and it's amazing. I love women's basketball and the stories in the book are so well described, from the start of the amazing season till that buzzer beater, everything is connected.
This is amazing!
Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi on the same team? Holy crap!
What a stacked UConn team
sue is a legend
The shot this year from Notre Dame against UConn and then in the finals is worthy of this series maybe in a few years
Two of arguably the greatest wnba players of all time on the same tram in college jeez. Uconn share your talent
The amount of ACL injuries though...
Sue Bird is an AMAZING basketball player! I became a fan of the Seattle Storm, when they drafted Lauren Jackson, but it was during the next season when I came to love this team, as much as loved the Supes'. She and Lauren Jackson were such a great duo on the court... Winning the Finals in a short amount of time, then doing it again in 2010 (it helped having Cash money come over from the Shock, in 2008...), and this last season she broke a few more records, like total career games played. Sue Bird, you f***ing KICK ARSE!!!

Best draft the Storm ever made, 2002 1st round, 1st Pick!
This series is great!!!
I think the 2005 Capital One Bowl could warrant a Rewinder. The panic of the final play along with that being Holloway's only touchdown catch of his career would make for a fantastic ending. The weird scoreline, LSU's QB situation and how both teams ended up there would be some interesting storylines to get in as well.
Do Lemond winning the tour by 8 seconds over fignon in 1989
Excellent video! I was familiar with Sue Bird’s name, but I didn’t know anything about her until I saw a KZread replay of her recent Jimmy Fallon appearance. That led me to look for more info on this Sue Bird magic moment, which I might have ignored had it not been for my recent interest in women’s college basketball. Yes, Caitlin Clark’s phenomenal year was part of my increased interest, but my interest went from almost zero (except when the Lady Longhorns were in the mix, as they are this year) to very interested in UConn women’s basketball when Paige Bueckers joined UConn. I discovered Paige’s phenomenal talent when she was a sophomore in high school. I was so wowed by Paige’s gifts that I probably watched most, if not all, of her high school games the first year a video highlighting Paige’s talents popped up on my KZread feed. My interest in the WNBA is still almost zero, but when Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers join the WNBA, along with so many college players that I’ve become familiar with this year because of Caitlin Clark’s and Iowa Hawkeye’s exciting style of basketball, plus watching the exciting talents of Longhorns like Madison Booker, Shaylee Gonzales and Rori Harmon, to name a few, I may actually start watching the WNBA. And for those Caitlin Clark naysayers, make sure you get the facts before you throw any shade her way and have to backtrack (like Ms. Swoops). Anyway, I am glad your video provided so much background info before this Sue Bird last second shot so that I could appreciate it that much more.
Tiger Wood's put on the 18th hole of the final round of the 2008 US Open to force a playoff with Rocco Mediate deserves a deep rewind.
