Becky Hammon never won a WNBA title. Here's what left her empty-handed.

Спорт

Becky Hammon is one of the greatest WNBA players ever -- a testament to the immense skill and impressive rise of the undrafted 5'6 guard. However, unlike most WNBA greats, Hammon never won a championship as a player. And she certainly had her chances?
Why? Well, Hammon had some chances as a young bench player for the New York Liberty, but the early days of the WNBA featured basically unstoppable dynasties. She had more chances as she developed into a centerpiece for the Liberty and San Antonio Stars, but often lacked a healthy supporting cast. And in her latter years, a great new crop of star point guards took over the league and overshadowed Hammon in the playoffs.
No one doubts that Hammon is a legend, but if you're wondering why she retired without a ring, this episode of Untitled will get into it.

One of the craziest parts of this video is seeing how the league developed. Early in the video you see a final score with both teams in the 40s. Then you get to the 2007 playoffs where both teams scored 100.

Excellent job, SB Nation. The career that Becky had, was so remarkable... I really appreciate the Sue Bird/Seattle Reign Championship teams, even more so, because of the careers of greats like Sir Charles, John Stockton, and Becky Hammon. You can give it all you have... absolutely everything, and still come up inches short. It wasn't because you didn't deserve it, or because you didn't want it bad enough... Hammon is the perfect example, of how patience and practice can pay off!

@Harry Engel I don't know, winning world series with 3 different teams is pretty good. He also won more games in the 1980's than any other pitcher. He wasn't a lock to get in because of the 3.90 career ERA but he used to give up unnecessary runs when he had a big lead by trying out different pitches or testing if somebody could hit a high fastball for future reference.
