Yes, he was alone, with only a coach and interpreter.. However, months in, his calls home became increasingly worse, his Mom said years after in a tv interview. Then worse, sad, homesick, down, and a family decision was made, his Dad called the producers and told them he was flying in to surprise him, just wanted to sit in the audience. They were happy as they'd noticed a change in his attitude and so he did, sat in the audience when Dimash performed Opera 2 and the camera kept panning to his Dad. Dimash never noticed him till his Dad's arm pump at his conclusion caught his eye, he bounded off the stage and lifted him off the ground in a bear hug ! All this is seen in the extended video including his burying his face in his Dad's neck in the hallway and a muffled I want to go home. His Dad didn't go home and to this day, one family member is with him on any extended tour or trip. Watching Opera 2, you'd never believe he was anything but perfect. As a matter of fact, he's said if he'd known his Father was in the audience, he'd never have been so cheeky ! Thanks again for your time and effort for us, we enjoy it a lot !

For example, when he held a concert in Kyiv, he sang a Ukrainian folk song, Marigolds. Very simple. But OMG tears were flowing in the audience including his mother’s. Then the whole hall sang the chorus together… absolutely moving!

Terry Lyn know Dimash was so down when in the singer show so he took him home with him. Terry was 51 then ,Dimash was 23. Dimash call’s Terry Lyn “pupa Lyn” they have been good friends ever since.

I see others have suggested you react to Tengri on the 2018 I Am , singing Heaven, which I love. You could then watch Dimash and Tengri singing a fun duet (different show). It’s upbeat, and has a Mongolian throat singing band with them. Very different.
