I worked at a Subway back in the 90s and I was shocked at what some people ordered. This one girl used to come in every Friday at dinner time and order a sub with just lettuce and mustard on it.

The issue isn't $20 for 2 subs it's $20 for two hunks of warm bread and chicken and bacon. No sauce, veggies, barely any flavor or love. Milad can only do so much for it. Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree about the price point you're making. Just two subs are not created equal, they're wasting money by not maxing out subs at $10/per. Either get that good good or just make it yourself, this sub specifically is easily made at home.

Somebody has to pay for all of that marketing & franchise fee's...and somethings got to give...in the case of subway & other franchises, it comes out of the overall quality & portion sizes of your food. 20+ years ago Subway used to be the "fresh" and healthier alternative to the burger places. But times changed, and the sandwich business competition increased, and it became clear to consumers that there was nothing fresh about Subway at all. Having the long-time public face of their company go to prison for pedophilia didn't help either.

I’m 33 and I can remember even back in the mid 90s subway would have limited time items that were not exactly health forward. There was a pulled chicken I remember loving back when I was little and was bummed they didn’t keep it. Plus they’ve had meatballs as long as I can remember back.

I think Subway has managed to survive all these years by charging more and spending less than other sandwich franchises. The last time my husband and I bought sandwiches at a Subway was about seven years ago in Columbus, NC, where we had been doing volunteer work. I kept telling my husband we should just go--the young servers were surly and rude, and only about half of the ingredients containers had anything in them, and what was there was darkened, dry, and curled up. He was "starving," and I think he was enjoying making the lazy-ass workers do something for a change. They didn't have all the components for the "spicy Italian," but Mr. Husband choose from what was there. We took the sandwiches home. I couldn't eat mine as the meat and cheese were actually hard, and it tasted slightly of vinegar, even though there was none. We have not been to a Subway since. Personally, I think the Board of Health is being paid off by corporate.
