It's not really that complicated. Self-ordering stations maximize user-friendliness, employee PoS machines maximize speed. Sure, there are other UX issues here (like mixing buttons for adding items with buttons for modifying existing items, or some menus being seemingly randomly arranged), but the main point is that everything is presented all at once - it's unintuitive for someone looking at it for the first time, but an employee that does this for 8 hours a day can punch out everything in seconds, without having to move between nested tabs of meal categories and going through 3 confirmation prompts.

@@lIII0IIIla meal is typically more bang for your buck if you want everything included (basically discounts everything by like 50 cents per item or so) but yes it is usually still cheaper to leave off the fries or drink. However you don’t really call it a meal if you don’t want the drink, because saying meal or combo implies that you want everything included. Just saying something like “I’ll have a burger with just a side of fries” suffices, I may clarify if you want a beverage but I’d still know that you probably don’t.

@@KatieT97 Thank you for the info. I understand the concept of the “meal with no XX.” If there is no XX then it’s not a “meal.” I want to make it as easy as can be when I order. I know it varies by location, but I always order cheeseburgers, “No Pickle. No Onion.” If I don’t say it explicitly that way, I might get some onions or pickles. Just my experience. I’m trying to make it easier for everyone!! Thank you again for your reply!!

Worked at McDonald’s for 6 years in my late teens/early twentys and it is not as easy a job as people think. Long days dealing with customers, constantly standing and talking all day. Mentally draining job for sure. Great POV of this side of the counter showing them that’s it’s a fun job at times but it can really take a toll after awhile. Keep up the good work man! Much love!

Usually here in NY you see more of that rush on drive thru these days rather than being in the store....especially on the dinner rush from 6-8p where you can get like 7-12 cars back even with the double lane drive thru. Guessing this is canada from the 'poutine' order, but theres no cover for the card reader? In the UK, we have like a barrier that hides the pin pad so no one can see the numbers you put in!

@@supersmashmaster43 do the managers get mad if they give ppl free stuff? At what point do they say no? If they ordered a full meal?

  • @supersmashmaster43

@@juicyraspberries It depends. In this case, the girl covered most of the drink price so it wasn't technically free, a manager probably wouldn't get really annoyed over that. It also depends on where you work, if the managers are chill or not. A lot of times we'll make extra drinks or ice cream by mistake and just give it away to a random person instead of throwing it away, managers are fine with that. Only time managers would get annoyed is if someone wants an extra topping on their food but you don't upcharge them for cause that's what you have to do. Overall they don't really get mad over free stuff if it's something small like this.
