The Below Zero void was actually terrifying. I remember coming to a fairly shallow slope, thinking it's just a new biome that finally goes way deep. Then the damn beakfish nibbled on my seatruck.

ngl I'd say the BZ void, especially with the Chelicerates is scarier than the original game's, and while some people might say having a bottom makes it less scary I like that it does because it feels more realistic that way

I'm sure it's for an entirely different reason, but I like to think that the reason that the Ghost Leviathans stop chasing you after a while is because there's such a colossally humongous creature out there that the adult Ghosts fear, but the player is too small to be considered worthwhile prey, hence why it doesn't attack you. Considering how massive the void on planet 4545B is, it's not out of the realm of possibility

One cool thing I discovered in Below Zero is that, in one specific area of the void, near the Northeast corner of the map, the biome for the Fabricator Caverns actually extends into the void. I was exploring the void while keeping close to the wall, when the water turned green all of the sudden, and the chelis quickly swam away. Eventually the music from the caverns began to play. I quickly plopped a scanner room down on the void's wall, and sure enough, you could se the terrain of the caverns through the void wall, and I even scanned some of the Shadow Leviathan's and could see them marked on my HUD while I was in the void, it was pretty cool

Nice and comprehensive overview of the void. Definitely it's the most effectively terrifying part in Subnautica (at least the first one) for me. Not just the ghost leviathans, who are a sizable and effectively undefeatable threat, but also the idea that, no mater what, there's nothing you can do get past it. It's the true end, but no end at all - just an endless expanse. Particularly straight down, where there truly would be no escape from it. Endlessly increasing darkness and pressure as you get further from the sunlight, expanses of water that put entire planets to shame. It's easy to forget, immersed in the surface biomes and caves, but the idea that the map is just this colossal floating chunk of stone in a truly endless ocean is more terrifying than any leviathan could hope to be.

This volcano could be one of many underwater mountains dotted across 4546b’s tropics. And the layout of this volcano from summit to base is interesting. The Void is something that made Subnautica very special. All the theories and creepypastas based around this seemingly large stretch of open water. And if you think in a more scientific term, there's most likely underwater volcanoes near the bottom, that most likely will create other stretches of land like the Crater and Sector Zero. Its also obvious that the Void is the only "Dark Zone" of Subnautica, (The Dark Zone usually starting past the Twilight Zone about 1,000 meters down. And biomes like the Grand Reef, Sea Treader's Path, and Blood Kelp Zone are obviously inspired by the Twilight Zone.) And seeing as we only know about 5% of our own oceans, both the Void of Subnautica and the Dark Zone of the real world are two things our imagination tends to dwell on. What lurks down there? Seeing as Subnautica Below Zero is seemingly the final entry in the series, we can only keep guessing. Good video!

I have a question if you don't mind. Assuming this planet was real the void would have a floor right? So if the auruora landed in the void and was standing upwards. Would it still be underwater or you reckon the top would be poking out? Weird question I know.

It’s interesting…why the architects made so much effort on hiding the emperor deep in the lava zone and building complex systems to make a living ecosystem for it, instead of just build near the surface (less infrastructure needed). + ghost leviathans don’t get out the void, they could have bigger meals by interning the shore of other ecosystems…what do they fear? +the gargantuan died in this volcanic Island environment where the game developed, which makes me wonder…how it end up there? There might be a migratory course of súper leviathans that arrive to the map and reproduce or just pass by, this would explain the ghost leviathans behavior, the gargantuan fossils and the strong protection to the emperor, besides it’s already known important purpose. I know it’s just programmed npc to not let the player abandoned the map, but it’s cool to think there is something else out there staying unnoticed. There’s too much space and oxygen perfect for mega fauna to developed.

  • @TheLastBacon

I'm quite recent fan of this game and subscriber to this channel. I'm amased how many people show love for this game and how great the fandom is. As for the void I must say I love this idea of big empty space with nothing to find or see besides Ghost leviathans. Yet on the other hand I wonder if it wouldn't be better to have an unique giant creature lurking deep down (maybe at the level of the 'true void') or that 'The Single Cell Landscape' (if it was even possible to implement). Anyway, thank you for the great video!

The void is honestly so interesting, there’s so much to think about. Like is the ghost leviathans and void chelicerares the only creatures in the void? Is the void completely empty or are there biomes in it (real biomes not the glitch) like floating islands or something, how big is the void? Is the below zero void close to the subnautica void or are they far apart? Etc. There’s so much potential for more scares, thrills, and chills using the void in future installments

Once again, another very interesting video! One that I believe has finally fully motivated me to do that reddit post I've been planning on making on this particular biome. But back to the topic of said biome, i am VERY curious if anyone has extracted a full in-game model of the void from both games, or at least has a map of it, as I know the scanner rooms and the sea glide still actually have the model of the terrain in their display maps. And after seeing the below zero boundaries...I am especially curious on what those look like in an external program. Could offer us some interesting insights into how these games were made.

I actually entered the tundra void twice without knowing it. Its fairly easy to do with the prawn suit and the enchanced jump upgrade. I was trying to find the ice worms and suddenly I found myself in a snowy plain that continued as far as the eye could see, I didn't explore it bc I was scared of a missing hitbox or somthing and I didn't want to fall into the void, but yeah, you can go try it for yourself. Gameplay speaking its actually a pretty decent way of navigating the land safely since there is nothing there and you can skip areas you weren't supposed to do so.

First time playing I didn't know that's a void and you just fall pretty much forever. Jumped down with my prawn suit lol.

so apparently if you use a certain custom made mod you can get to a point where the players body model stops rendering and you cant move at all but you can look around i think its because the player speed isnt applied to the camera the camera just tags along with the players general head area which is attached to the body model but im pretty sure it only sometime worked on older version of the game

in BZ I jumped from one of those spiky hills, those look like wizard heads in area with ice worm, with PRAWN, jumped on one of cliffs and I found that testing area for ice worm animations and stuff, thre was really nothing much else and I cant even consider getting there as "glitching trough" as it was mere jump from one unexpected spot, just because I was looking for something and I thought it would be easier to try go on top of that cliff, it was interesting
