FINALLY, a subaru guy, a car guy that knows what he is doing, not full of BS and is not so impressed with the sound of his own voice. My hats off to you brother. Gotta love the subies!!! Got 3 of em myself. And you clearly know EXACTLY what you are doing. I wish there were more how to videos on you tube that featured the clear video, no talking material like you post here. Color me subscribed. :)

2010 Forester, 218,000 miles. Rough idle, sometimes die at a stop. This procedure gave me back a smooth idle, engine doesn't die at stops. Took maybe 30 minutes. Inside of the throttle plate looked like the bottom of a tar bucket. Probably doesn't help it uses a quart of oil every 500 miles. But it's paid for and reliable.

Love your video's. Direct and to the point with no needless talking. It's like having a workshop manual in video format. Thank you for your time in making these and please don't change the format.

Someone please help! I tried to buy a donated 2007 Toyota (I used to be a Lexus tech & prefer Lexus/ Toyota cars) but the owner couldn't find the paperwork or key so he gave me a 2009 Subaru Forester N/A instead. Tbh I don't like Subies because of their 'lawn mower' boxer engine lol and they're more high-maintenance than most other non-luxury cars but thought I'd give it a shot since at idle the car 'seems' to run fine, it looks OK, and all the accessories work. The problem I'm having is when pushing the accelerator pedal with the transmission in P after a minute or so the engine makes a deep bellowing sound and gets seriously bogged down to the point where the engine will almost cut off, and when driving the car only goes 5 mph with the gas pedal fully pressed to the floor😒. The car has 190,000 miles and I've replaced all of the worn-out parts I spotted such as the air-filter (I put a cheaper cone filter b/c the old filter box wasn't closing completely), spark plugs, PCV valve & PCV hose, replaced both exhaust manifold gaskets b/c one of them was leaking, cleaned the throttle body, found a couple of vacuum leaks and sealed them off, replaced the gaskets for the exhaust pipe after the cat b/c the rear circular flange came apart and was causing a leak, etc. Other than a P0172 system too rich Bank 1 code that popped up momentarily, there is no CEL to speak of. Before replacing any parts there was a strong fuel smell like too much gas was entering the engine and a loud hissing sound could be heard upon start-up, after replacing the aforementioned parts those 2 issues aren't AS prevalent but still present. I'm at my wits end on this car and I'm about ready to put it in Neutral and push it into a river lol. I've been online looking through a lot of info, many ppl have stated the bogging down issue but few solutions have been forthcoming, thanks.

I dont understand why you wouldnt clean the MAP sensor when you go through the trouble to remove the entire throttle body

Worked great! I didn't think it would need it since my intake plumbing is all nice and clean on my 04 XT. I was completely wrong! Didn't need to remove throttle body, just held it open and wiped the other side.. I used crc throttle body cleaner and it shredded the gunk.

question - with an electronic throttle body im reading in the forums that the butterfly plate shouldnt be moved at all. is this accurate? what would happen if i move the butterfly during cleaning?

Fixed my stalling issue during idle relearn. Idle is much smoother now and acceleration is so buttery too. Thanks.
