Subaru knows that plastic clips falling off again… that’s why they included that rubber hook, so if it pops off when your driving you can put it back on so it can fall off again 😎
I like Mr. Subarus detective work.
I wish more manufacturers had repair kits for their connectors like this one. My Ford truck has some brittle connectors it's impossible to fix without the zip tie method. Good to know Subaru pays attention to these things.

Have you looked at Dorman? They might have something for that.
Great video and advice! The dealer wanted to charge me over $500 to fix this! I spent $20 (including shipping) for the part and was able to do it myself thanks to the video. Thanks again!
Thanks for the information! We drove in the other evening from the harbor, and the "light show" on the dash just started. Found your video, I walked out to our Outback, and it was exactly the same as you saw. We have the kit on order, but for now, my wife crawled under there while I was at work the next morning and zip tied it on. You've won another follower!
You are a fantastic mechanic , I like how you confirmed what was causing the problem and you include all the details , like part numbers, tools used. Thank you.
This also happened to our used 2016 outback. Had just bought it and drove a couple of miles before the dash lit up. Bought it at a subaru dealer and they were useless. They insisted that it was not a broken retaining clip but dirt in the plug that caused the connector to fall off. I pointed out that this was a known issue and Subaru had issued a TSB in America, I live in Europe, the dealer did not care. I asked if they could get me the repair kit and I would install it myself, but no. I ended up fixing it with a zip tie and it has been fine ever sine. Not an ideal fix, but at least it works.
Great that Subaru addressed this. But I don't understand the point of the extra loop strap. I mean, I guess it prevents the mechanic from dropping the part in the dirt if it ever gets removed again, but on the other hand it seems it creates a new risk. Imagine if an Outback driver ever took it off-road (!) and happened to snag a small branch with that redundant loop: it could yank the whole thing out the hard way. Am I missing something?
WOW, beautiful and free information from the capable Mr. Subaru. Thank you the great Mr. Subaru.

Your vlog is MAGNIFICENT!!
Thank you Mr. Subaru my 18 Outback started doing this a couple of days ago.
Man, this is awesome! I've been having the SAME issue on my 2013 Outback. Going to go test this hypothesis STAT! Thanks for this video!!
I'd like to have been a fly on the wall of the Subaru engineer coming up with this fix listening to the discussion about it with his fellow engineers. "Should I include zip-ties with the fix?". "Naw, Leroy, let's put a big damn rubber loop on it. That'll show that its fixed real good." LOLOL!! That giant tether is a hoot
Thanks Mr Subaru for that video! I didnt know that losing that connector connection would throw so many errors.
I'd trust a big zip tie more, good to know though as I have a 2018 Outback 3.6R thank you for the video.

Thanks for the heads up!
Thank you! This just happened to my dad's Outback, however Subaru Australia hasn't issued a TSB that I can find... will be ordering the kit from the US instead!
My son's Outback had the same connector problem on the right rear. His car was not equiped with Eye Sight, but he couldn't engage the electronic parking brake. This was about a year ago. I used a zip tie, and it's been fine. He has taken it to the dealer for rear brakes, and rear differential inspection. Nobody noticed anything out of the ordinary.
Mr suburu you rock!!❤
Thank you very much 👍👍👍
Subaru (Canada) just extended the warranty on these connectors to 15 years unlimited mileage. Both my mother and I received letters from Subaru Canada for our 2016 Outbacks for this specific issue. I recently had this problem, one connector loose, and the dash lit up like a Christmas Tree, I will be off to the dealer to have this fixed (for free) shortly. Unrelated issue I recently had a headlight aim issue, the small connecting arm between the control arm and rear height sensor which adjusts the auto levelling headlights failed, the sensor was pushed full up and the headlights went full down, I have the sensor zip tied at mid height until that part can be replaced, which only comes as a complete sensor with arms.
I never have understood the why of the electronic parking brake. We have A 2017 OB but I prefer the old fashioned crank handle on my Tacoma.
My 2015 outback faced the same problem, i have just repaired it myself love from 🇺🇬 uganda
Thanks for the video.

This video saved my butt. Thanks.
Thank you for your amazing content! I have two sixth gen Subaru Legacy's. My '16 has 221,000 miles and my '19 has 161,000. Your videos help me stay ahead of failures/problems often replacing (or having on hand) parts you identify and servicing the rest. For the kit in this video... Does the lock tab need to already be broken-off for the repair kit clip to fit properly?
Nice work!

Wish you would do a brake lamp switch dash lights issue affecting a lot of Subaru’s. ABS, Hill assist and VDC even after the recall.
nice man
Most subaru with this issue have a warranty extension for the harnesses on these electric parking brakes. just take it to your dealer and see if your car is covered. normally we replace the whole harness under warranty.
Pretty crappy that Subaru sort of does this Toyota does it also or disables everything sort of forces you to go fix the problem but then again I guess that’s a good thing

Well its an auto braking system, if it's not reliably working that's a huge issue if you think your car is going to automatically brake and it doesn't. Better to let the driver know the system isn't on until its checked out and fixed.
I'll be hitting up my dealership on this when I get my winter tires mounted
You need to get in contact with Car Wizard whom has a channel and educate him on the Eyesite system.Says not to buy a Subaru with this which is a very expensive fix

2006 h6 outback or 2006 outlander v6 debating on purchase?
Went home and looked under my wife's 15 outback, and the plug was lying on the rim. 3 zip ties later, no lights, and waiting on the parts from your link.
Something similar on my 2017 Outback. Multiple error messages, irregular acceleration, and cruise control disabled. It turns out I needed to replace the Disc Brake Pad Retaining Clip. The spring broke off or popped off on the rear passenger side.
I have a 2017 Subaru Legacy. Could it be thesame?
Is Subaru from 2015 till 2019 are reliable and have less issues or it really does have some problems?
Very good, easy fix. I feel like Subaru's fix is just a Band-Aid , suprised of there poor design in the first place, a poor connection that is subject to all kinds of garbage thrown at it. should have designed it to be an internal connection that is made from metal that bolts on with O ring seal.
Hi any idea what could be wrong i had abs light came on with code C1422,C1424 16 forester XT

Where do I buy these repair kits
Good morning long shot never left a comment on anything before but I have a 2019 wrx that runs into the same issue, when at a stop sign if I hold the brake for 20-40 seconds all these lights come on. I took it to a shop they ran a report told me nothing is wrong. It is easy to get it to turn off just need to reset the electric parking brake. But want to find a permanent solution any help will be appreciated.
Good old mechanical parking brake on my 2023 Impreza. Pretty sure it is the last Subaru year and model that isn't electronic. I know the '24 went electronic.
Zip tie mechanic charges by the zip tie or bundle pack cost?😅
So worst case scenario, that connector falls out completely and melts from contact with the wheel requiring a new connector and repinning. But hey at least you can still drive no problem!
The car sure throws a fit when this thing comes unplugged. Mine seems to have snapped back in without issue but I’ve no idea why it would’ve come unplugged to begin with. Any reason the tire shop would’ve disconnected it?
My 2015 Outback with 132,000 miles hasn't had this issue.
Are there any advantages to the electronic parking brake vs a cable connected EMERGENCY brake ? I think it's ridiculous
@wim0104

it's cheap and nasty. I have a stick shift with that park brake button, and the factory-recalled parking motor that operates the old drum brakes... it does not release when it should (when it's supposed to help with hill starts). what does work is the auto-enable when parking on a slope.

@mushieslushie makes sense for sure . I should probably read the owners manual about it lol But, if that's the case... it's only activating the rear brakes?.. how's that going to be when the rear brakes lock up on the highway because of a squirrel?
@mittenvision

@@mushieslushiethis is for the parking brake actuators. The emergency braking is done through the ABS system. You wouldn’t want just the rear brakes trying to stop the car.
Looks like that clip and retainer plastic could get caught on debris easily and ripped off.

Like every single auto manufacturer…? It’s a free recall. I chose to spend the whole $10 to avoid the dealership touching my car.
the kit you used looks to be an ok repair on what is a poor design that will fail. bummer they messed it up a true emergency brake is cable activated - less to go wrong and is useful in an emergency [or other uses on ice, steep grades. . ect] electronic brakes are only good IF you have power. Not useful in an electronic emergency :o no power = no brake my 2014 has the electric parking brake & thankfully not like this one with extra parts [connectors] subject to damage from snow, mud or other road debris. oops I miss the cable [actual] emergency brakes. [less failure And only a cable with No connections to other systems] yes a real emergency brake, not an Brake which has one purpose - park. nice of you to show the connector fix that is much better than zip ties.
