Once again thank you for the great videos. Yesterday morning I tackled the... lower ball joints, sway bar links and inner and outer tie rod ends. Technically 8 jobs at once. As you know everything in that neighborhood is close together so it was just better to do it all at once but I would have had to sell a kidney to pay for all that work at a shop... and I did it all in less than 5 hours with smoke/thinking breaks. I am tempted to call a shop to ask for an estimate for all the parts I changed, and also the front struts and cv joints I did a couple weeks ago.....Thanks silent friend.

Did this on my 01 h4 like a month ago. I went with a whole new assembly from advance auto. They redesigned the cap for the oring. Its held on with 3 screws now instead if twist lock. Also lifetime warranty. Lol.....works a lot better then the 20psi max I was getting before.

Well done... Enjoyed watching your R&R on the electric fuel pump on the '03 Outback... I have the 2017 2.5L version Outback Limited. Hopefully it won't need replacing anytime too soon! I suspect the design aspect hasn't changed all that much. Thank you... :-)

I changed six fuel pumps on all my Subarus from legacy to Impreza and I love the access, ps don't buy fuel pumps from autozone I had problems with them failing after a month

My 2006 Subaru Outback stalled while traveling down the highway. Once over to the breakdown lane, the car started up again. The mechanic ran a diagnostic on the car and didn't find anything. Everything tested out fine. I saw somewhere that diagnostic readers don't read pressure on fuel pumps and that insufficient pressure could lead to stalling, especially at higher speeds. Do you think I may have a fuel pump in need of replacing or should I looking elsewhere? Thanks!

So I was just doing this and accidentally dropped one of the screws inside the gas tank and I can't see it anymore... Do you think this is something that could cause a problem? I really don't wanna have to go fishing it out of there.

Car wouldn't start today and had it towed to my mechanic. They said the fuel pump was shot and it was going to be $1100. Looked up your video with a friend who is handy with cars and determined we could fix it for a fraction. The mechanic said they need to replace the whole system including the relay. What all do you suggest replacing when a failure happens? Thanks for the great video and hopefully saving me a bunch of cash!

Can I buy a whole new pump assembly/housing with the pump already inside so I don’t have to take the old housing apart to replace the pump? That’s the part that’s holding me back.

I don't have a check engine light on. I did purchase a fuel pressure tester. I haven't gotten around to testing yet. Too many other projects going on. I appreciate your videos. Thanks for response. It's hard to say. Some get weak before they die. Some go out like a light switch.

Thanks for this guide, even showing warnings of where the f'ing around parts will be and reminding me that a magnet is useful to collect those bolts. Unfortunately one of the plate screws was too rusty to remove but I pried it up and turned it like a pivot. If you hear screaming and cursing from up in Canada that'll be me :P Note: I see you didn't label the hoses, do they only fit on the proper pipe?

Hi Mr subaru, last week my fuel pump failed as a result I search for a second hand fuel pump and changed it. What I am facing right now is once going mountain like a straight forward uphill keep pressing the fuel pedal on second gear or third my rpm once it is over 4 there will be a cut off as if you are not pressing the gas pedal anymore . I need your help or any solution.thank you. My Impreza is 2004 manual transmission

Hey there Mr Subaru, I'm trying to confirm a fuel pump pressure spec for 2004 2.5L non-turbo EJ251 ... Service manual uses confusing language -- ie "Shut-off discharge pressure" = 53.6-98psi [I assume this means deadheading the pump??] and "Discharge Flow" = 43.5psi [I assume this is an idle pressure??] ... any clarification would be much appreciated. Thanks as always for great vids!

i know it's possible to rebuild alternators and starters but would it be possible to rebuild fuel pumps aswell?

Mr. Subaru I have a 2012 2.5i Subaru Outback with CVT and I want to replace the carrier bearing for the driveshaft because its squeaking from the seized bearing. The problem is, is that I can't find a carrier bearing from Subaru. They want me to replace the whole driveshaft. Is there any good aftermarket carrier bearing? If so could you put a link to the website(s) for it. Thank You

I'm unaware of an aftermarket replacement on a newer model like your 2012. You most likely will have to replace the whole shaft with a new or used unit.

Would this be the same process for a 98 outback?

hey man! great video! whats your throughts on the later model subaru pump assemblies with fuel filters? ive got an 04 H6 legacy, (3.0R engine) with 120,000 miles (194,000 km) on it, subaru manual says they dont need replacing. but im concerned it needs replacing just cause of age. thoughts? is it also possible to put an inline fuel filter into the line? thanks! keep up the great videos!

I'd recommend the in tank filter replacement. Should be a p/n 42072AE00A. No need really to add the inline filter.

what i mean by inline fuel filter, is remove the existing one and add an inline for ease of access. but this may cause issues?

I understand what you were saying. Just change the in tank every 100k miles or so, don't warry with adding an inline.

I changed my filter and then my pump a few months ago, bit of a job but not too hard

I have an 01 h4 with 132k on it. Going up hills it feels like it's running out of fuel like filter is plugged. I have replaced the filter under the hood. No change. Is a fuel pump failure common or pressure regulator?

Rarely do I see fuel pump failures on Subarus. Not to say that it doesn't happen. Do you have a check engine light on? Have you checked your fuel pressure?

I have a similar problem with an 01 with 199k on it. And my check engine light is on. Code p0171

Mr Subaru,I purchased an out back,well long story short,the second engine,is hard to start,just cranks and cranks,and eventually starts,as everything is different but filter and fuel pump,you think possible bad or weak pump? Help

Sounds like it. I'd have the fuel pressure tested to be sure.

Hi Mr. Subaru- Can you shed any light on the “ghost-walking” issue that seems common among 05 to 09 Legacies and Outbacks? I’m seriously considering an 06 Legacy but some reviews I’ve read say the rear end is prone to washing out in snowy/wet conditions, especially with a load in the trunk. Any advice would be appreciated

Ive never had this issue with my 08, even despite a broken sway bar link in the rear I took forever to get around to fixing

Those OEM fuel pumps are so expensive. Do you use an aftermarket fuel pump?

I don't. You can risk it, but have had bad experience in the past with them.

I have a 1999 Subaru Outback 30th anniversary 2.5, it's over heating, I changed the radiator the hoses the thermostat and if I sit idle it keeps the temp ok but as soon as I put it in gear it skyrockets to Max, could it be the water pump?

Possibly the water pump or bad head gaskets. Is it actually overheating though? Could possibly be a bad temperature sensor as well. Is it loosing coolant? Is coolant bubbling in the radiator?

MrSubaru1387 no the radiator is cold the left hose is hot but there is no bubbling, I love my Subaru I can do all repairs on it except tranny and the head gasket, I don't want to junk it it only has 169k on it my last outback had 300k before the tranny finally broke.

Way off this topic but today I decided to change the differential fluid on a 30000 mile cross trek with a cvt. I was not prepared! I removed the wrong fill plug so I added gear oil to the cvt. After I recognized my blunder I drained the cvt pan and flushed clean non Subaru cvt fluid ( i hate to mix but it was all that was available) through the plug. Then I filled it and drained it. Then filled it to the fill plug after running it through the gears and getting it to 100 degrees. My question is should I trade this in or do a few drain and fills with Subaru cvt fluid or drop the pan and change the filter? Thanks for all the videos, but unfortunately they encourage me. Ha!
