This is what the Forester should be like these days. A utilitarian workhorse, not a fancy hybrid oversized SUV.

We're on our second Forester. Had a 2001 and have now bought a 2006 (same as in this video). This model, I agree is the best looking but the '01 will always have a place in my heart. People who have never owned one just don't appreciate how good they are. I love everything about them and they're great for towing. The only downsides are the fuel economy and I wish they'd fitted diff locks to accompany the low range box. Subaru as a whole; underrated company.

Under rated is an overstatement in my opinion. Subie tax (here in utah, at least) is super high. My foz 03 na was 4500 with a blown head gasget

Underrated is a reach. After rhe amount of bone stock Stis ive seen blow head gaskets and so on after people spend 30k+ on a new car to me isnt acceptable on a motor that has no much lineage it should be perfected by now lol

​@lukesteele5013 I have a 1999 Forester 5-speed manual I just last November had a JDM crate motor put in to replace the old engine that blew. I have a new clutch a lot of other new parts new axles new brakes and I just put some Yokohama geolandar a t g015

Your right ,but what this shows is the limitations even with 4wheel drive with road tyres ,to many people get into trouble off road thinking they’re invisible because they have 4wheel drive,I’ve seen them with all 4 wheels spinning on a flat wet field wondering why.

That's true. High performance with not acurate tires. And, in my own opinión, not the best driver for now.

Several things. These are actually very capable cars in mud. But they must be outfitted with the right tires AND wheels. Smaller diameter wheels and larger taller diameter tires make a huge difference, as does AIRING THEM DOWN. Ideally you want 15" wheels on a Subaru and a minimum of 28" diameter tire. Of course it is helpful if it is AT, but even AT's will not float deep mud, sand, or snow unless properly deflated. The combination of taller tires that hold more air volume being at lower pressure allows the tire to deform to a much greater footprint, and also deform to the shape of the terrain they are on. If this Subaru had aired down 235/65/15''s just off the top of my head, it would have probably NOT got stuck, or would have been able to get unstuck. The driving was fairly good, the tires were all wrong, and even had they been AT's this would have been very challenging without airing them down, and ideally taller sidewall tires with more air to deflate, i.e. 15" wheels. The Forester is AWD. Not only is there no disputing this, but the Subaru company seems to take pride in this. The fact that it isn't 4WD.

I own same model..all we need here is a big footer to show you how a forester can beast around.

Maybe not easy with the all seasons haha but don’t hate !! Some people can’t afford fancy tires and still like off roading

that thing would have killed it with a lift and proper tires not to mention it would look badass.

The silver one would of never of got stuck with a good set tyres on defo ...it’s only because them tyres are more like road ones would been mint with a set of off road tyres good videos guys from uk 🇬🇧

No solo basta que sea 4x4, necesita por lo que se ve en las imágenes, llantas todo terreno como mínimo. Si le pusieran llantas con mayor cocada este auto superaría todos los obstáculos sin problema alguno y sin forzar la máquina. En el video se vé que el conductor está acelerando demasiado para cruzar los charcos; esto es inconveniente porque además de gastar combustible, está forzando el motor lo que lleva a que se recaliente. Saludos

The rule of off road driving is to go as slow as possible,but as fast as necessary. The Subaru driver risks ruining his gearbox,given that his acceleration is excessive.A little bit of momentum is all he needed to get through those muddy obstacles.
