Su-25 Aircraft Safely Lands After Being HIT by Ukrainian MANPADS

Ғылым және технология

Russian Sukhoi Su-25 aircraft safely lands after being hit by Ukrainian MANPADS - The Russian Ministry of Defence released footage early on March 14, 2022, demonstrating once again how tough the Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot can be. The clip illustrates the plane taxiing with considerable damage to the rear right hand side of the fuselage allegedly caused by a MANPADS or Man Portable Air Defence System.
In regard to the case, it can be seen that the incident demonstrates two crucial aspects one is the threat posed by MANPADS operated by the Ukrainian forces to all Russian aircraft operating at medium and low altitudes, and the second one is the damage tolerance of the Su-25.

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah, i think the SU 25 will not survive that. Starstreak missile has solid penetrator since it is a KE-Missile, it will rip off the engine and fuselage. But... that happens only IF the starstreak hits, which will be harder than most missiles because it requires direct hit, not just proximity explosion like most AA missiles are. This plane survived because MANPADS are weak. But you dont need starstreak, had it been an ADATS missile, we won't have this news.

  • @LondonSteveLee

    @LondonSteveLee

    Жыл бұрын

    @@stateservant Yep, Starstreak is not the easiest weapon to aim - that's why the British are deploying more non-MANPAD RADAR-guided variants. But if one does hit you - you're in trouble! It's great against many targets - if you can guess where the engine on a boat is - it'll punch through most hulls and destroy the block. We should be creating a "marinised" version with RADAR guidance for marine point-defence.

    This aircraft like the A10 and the attack helicopters are designed specifically for this job. Many have questioned why the russians did not deploy their air superiority fighter. First of all Ukraine does not have any significant airforce. Look at right now most of low flying russian aircrafts were destroyed by manpads. The russians are not dumb repeating the lessons of Afghanistan where most of their frontline fighters and helicopeters were destroyed not by another multi million dollar F16 OR Eurofighter but a cheap manpad called stinger missiles that US provided to the Taliban. These ground support aircraft have armor in its belly means they can add thick skin. Air superiority fighters have very thin skin. Especially those new stealth have composite skins unlike older fighters have metallic skin. We all know that carbon fibre can be hard to repair.

    The Su-25 has a higher speed than the A-10. The Su-25 has a higher climb rate. For pilots, this means that with the same threat from the ground, the Su-25 is less likely to be in a dangerous zone where it can be shot down by portable air defense systems. Both aircraft have been seriously upgraded since development and can carry missiles fired and forgotten. But the classic A-10 is built around a machine gun, the pilot had to hold the target for a few seconds, the classic Su-25 carried several unguided missiles that he had to fire at the accumulation of equipment or soldiers on the ground and no longer worrying about missiles to gain altitude. These few seconds are very important. Operators with manual air defense do not stand ready with missiles on their shoulders, they also need time to prepare for the shot.

    The a10c's sniper pod is deadlier than that 300 kg waste of space called the avenger. The only time any pilot in a conventional war would use that gun is if the enemy ran out of AA missiles. The reason why the a10 can work is purely because it can lob PGMs way beyond the reach of MANPADs.

    This is old news, that rocket hit the plane in February, a few days after the start of the war. And yes, ground attack planes are reinforced to resist. And the rocket was a light manpad one, a big AA rocket is tearing apart a warplane. Probably the Russian army will get close to Central Europe, this is the scope, the rest is just smoke. And a new curtain is built. Russian citizens will pay the price also. Poor and proud...as always...

    @@iamnotreallyherenow nope, if you can imagine, I really use my upper part of the body... You know all the discussions are just smoke for us? You know this is not ending without Russia occupying the entire Ukraine and in 5 years making it Russia. Same as Belarus? Do you need a paint to see that NATO coming to Russian borders is not acceptable (as they say) but Russia coming to NATO borders is super? Why no one from their former servants wants to be with them, why do all eastern countries seek NATO protection? Is so hard to understand that not NATO run East Europe, was East Europe running to NATO? Propaganda is dangerous for the brain tissue...And by the way, my life was in both areas, so no one outside can tell me what and how. But many in the west have absolutely no idea what is going about. Russia is locked in time with the same feudal political system which Ivan the IV- the terrible started. In 1917 they changed just the name, the system was doing the same for the other people... Look at Putin in 1990s, and now, look what he said at that time about his relationship with the power...oh, just remember when Rusia closed the relations with NATO and why... And I was radar operator for a guided AA missile unit, I know what can do (our rockets could destroy a plane even blowing 200 m away, some similar with what Iranians does with the passenger plane)...
