I'm an expert in packing, and I've watched a bunch of "prison clothes packing/rolling tutorial" video's. The idea is to roll your clothes the same way you would with socks, put them into organisers or bags and stack those. Categories them either by sets for each say (full look for day 1, 2, etc ) or by type of clothes (pants, shirts, underwear etc). Any formal clothes or ones that you cant roll you fold regularly, also into an organisation bag. Enjoy!

It's a \|/ pattern with 6 hanger spots on each foldable arm, belt/tie hooks and a rotatable hook at the top. As long as you leave about half a hangers worth of space to open an arm you can fit a lot of stuff an a few of them.

Folding hack for packing for long trips or limited dresser/drawer space; military Ranger roll, or what I like to call the soda-can T-shirt roll. Fold hem up 2-3 inches both sides, so its rolled up. Fold left side over 1/3rd of the way, and fold sleeves back to match line of fold. Repeat on right side by folding 1/3rd of the way and folding sleeves back to match line of fold. Roll from the collar SUPER TIGHT all the way up to the hem, continue rolling OVER the hem line, and then take the hem and tuck it over the shirt to finish! Now you have more space to store in your luggage for long trips or drawer space when you're working to clear stuff out! 😁

I need an update to this episode in a year: how to maintain an organized closet. I have organized and organized and organized my closet so many times. But if those were my folded shirts, I would only choose the top, maybe 3, cause everything on the bottom would be a drag to reach. And if you have deep shelves like me, everything in the back has basically disappeared. Marie Kondo commented on this as well, saying this was common for her clients. I might be alone in this but compiling items on to one hanger makes me worried that the middle items will be a pain to take out. And more importantly will get lost since there’s so many places for my eyes to scan. I was overwhelmed just listening. Also this might just be my short girl problems, but those jeans are lost forever all the way up there. I did chuckle at the fact that the less used puffer jackets were more accessible. I do, however, feel inspired to take my tshirts and hoodies off their hangers… as soon as I think of where to put them. 🤪

Put your out of season clothes on/in the harder to reach spaces. So your thick sweaters during the summer go to the back of your deep shelves, t-shirts you wear in summer in front of those. I reorganize my closet twice a year, pack up and vacuum seal all the stuff that won’t be worn for the next few months, and bring out all the stuff that will. It also lets me see everything I own and decide if maybe something needs to be taken out of circulation all together.

Those see through containers / boxes are the way to go! Fold your clothes so they can stand upright (KonMari style) and put them in a box or drawer that you can slide out and see the full collection and all of it is within reach and not under other items that makes it difficult to get to.

I have thought about boxes that you can easily slide out. I’ve put some in my hallway closet but once you put stuff in them, they become heavy and less easy to pull out. I could put rolling shelves in but that would be costly and it would permanently damage my closet if I don’t like it. I don’t know if this is all closets are just mine but they don’t sell boxes that are the size of shelves so I end up with so much wasted space on the side or/and in front. So inefficient.

One of my biggest closet/wardrobe hacks is a rotation/cycling system. I have my clothes organized by type (jackets, light jackets, long sleeves, shirts, pajama pants, pants for work, etc.), but within each type, the most recently cleaned (and thus worn) items go on one side, while the items that have yet to be worn go on the other. For hanging, the items that haven't been worn go on the left while the recently cleaned items go on the right. And for folded items, the recently cleaned items go on the bottom of the stack rather than the top. It basically ensures I'm basically always getting the most out of my wardrobe since all of my clothes are being cycled through, instead of just wearing a handful of favorites while letting some items sit for months.

Try to finalise the item you like as soon as you can because even though walking around every store might get you a better deal on the colour and style of clothing/footwear you wanted, you're less likely to be happy with your decision leading to you using your purchase less or with a bad mood.

Plus removing or putting items away in a bin is easier. Also bins hide bad folding , making a closet look neater in general . It’s also great for nonfolders.

First learned the trick of rolling clothing for packing suitcases from someone who used to be in the military, translated it to storing clothing on shelves and oh boy it was a game changer. So when I travel, I normally bring a rain coat. My dad taught me how so fold one, so it can fit in the same amount of space as an umbrella. First: follow the hoodie trick until folding it in half 2nd, you roll up the jacket into the hood. It is really important if you travel a lot, and don’t have a lot of your space in your suitcase or back pack.

Yes! I do this too - I have a stuffsack that came with my waterproof jacket but rolling it up like this makes it fit easily in the stuffsack and keeps it as compact as possible when the drawstring on the sack is pulled tight 🥳

18:48 i see your tank top hanger and i thought: 'hey, you can actually fit eight more tank tops on the back if you layer it!' it's slightly less efficient way if you're finding a certain tank top in a hurry, but it does save more space :D

My preferred method of folding when trying to save space is the ranger roll/ military roll. Basically, bring the hem of a top or the waist area of bottoms a couple centimeters towards itself so you have a pocket. Then, fold the clothes in half of thirds depending on the item before rolling from the opposite end of the 'pocket' you made earlier. Grab the edge of the "pocket" and drag it over the end of your roll on boths sides. Works well when trying to fit a weeks worth of clothing into half of a shared suitcase. There are youtube tutorials for the roll method that explain it better than I have here.

Adding to the Folding Method conversation; Military Roll! I very tightly roll all of my house clothes and t-shirts/tanks to fit in a dresser! • Lay shirt flat with the neckline towards you [doesn't matter if front or back is up] • Fold about 4~5 inches of the base of shirt [more may be needed based on the fabric of apparel] underneath • Tuck in sleeves and fold the neckline part of shirt upwards towards the folded bottom [folded side is UNDER the shirt] leave space above the fold, about 3~4 inches • Now fold in the sides like a pamphlet [some items need more space, some can be packed tighter] to desired width • Take the folded part nearest you and match it to the top of the item, where the base fold was • Grab the folded part that is UNDER the item, and roll one side OVER the top - like when you fold over matching socks! BOOM - happy lil square of clothing that'll easily fit in a small drawer or shelf~ This method works with EVERYTHING; I do this to underwear, shirts, pants, shorts, sweaters, etc etc etc. I have about 30 shirts in one basic Ikea Malm dresser! It's a LIFE SAVER for small space-dwellers!

My current technique is my everyday clothes are in my chest of drawers, and I fold shirts by rolling them (t shirt designs visible to front) and I put them in vertically rather than horizontally. Basically like standing toilet paper rolls.

  • @TrueMikeyQ
    @TrueMikeyQАй бұрын

The roll folding technique is the fastest and best imo, Its neat, compact, you don't need to search the folded pile and you easily see and choose what to wear, Works best with shirts, hoodies, sheets, towels sweaters and more, You can sort them vertically and horizontally to utilize closet space

Vertical rolls for deeper draws, and horizontal for shelves and shallower drawers is my preference too! They stack nicely horizontally by nature which is really satisfying

Also, as a bit of a habit person I know that there r some clothes I'll always wear together and so I'll put them together on the same hanger. I like lace shirts and I'll always wear it with the same colour top underneath, so those r always together. Usually I like a blazer with these bc it gets too cold without one (and I prefer them to my cardigans) and so I got three items on the same hanger and only need to find a bottom piece I like with it. It's also very easy in the mornings since it's almost a pre planned outfit 💃🏼

I would like to see something similar to this but with shoewear. I honestly have small drawers to store them and the only "hack" I have is to store sneakers is: Inner side of left shoe against left wall, inner side of right shoe agisnt left shoe and so one (so you maximize space) and put other pair on top, upside down so the sole doesnt touch the top of the bottom ones and making them fit point of the shoe with hill from the bottom one. But as I said, this only works for sneakers, not boots or i guess heels (or even shoes you want to preserve better), and another downside is that you end up hiding half of your footwear below the soles of the other half.

There's a style of that multi-pants hanger that has clips instead of just bars, which would probably be better for specifically those short skirts, since then you only have one skirt-thickness of a multi-layered or pleated skirt instead of two, which would allow more space for more condensing hangers

My wife and I had a closet similar to a slider, but with accordion-hinge doors that we HATED. Best decision we made was just taking them out completely and opening our closet to the room! We had shelf across the top, a bar just under that for all our hanging, and we put a pair of relatively cheap 3-drawer plastic bins at the bottom, with a clothes hamper across the gap between them. It made organizing her stuff vs my stuff super easy, let us see almost everything we use on a daily basis, and getting rid of the doors made us more conscious of what we were and weren't wearing pretty quickly! So yeah, adjusting your closet habits can make a HUGE difference!

I have some of those hangers for my pants and skirts and I LOVE them. The ONE thing that I struggle with is shoes. I LOVE shoes and easily have 40 pairs. I especially love boots. I got these shelves that I put them in and I have those racks that go on the door, but I ALWAYS end up with my shoes on the floor. I think it's because I have a shelf that is deep when it'd be better to be wider so I don't have to shuffle my shoes around to look for shoes.
