Another oversight is doing socks then one sock for both participants in both tests. Matt even stated that he'd learned from his mistakes on the stairs, which would indicate he had a technical advantage over his previous runs. Should have had Steph do 2 sock/1sock and Matt do 1 sock/2 sock and/or have them do an additional run with the first condition

I agree with Matt on the the running experiment that 1 sock obviously works as you have more grip with your bare feet. But I agree with Stephanie that 2 socks is still the best to wear especially with shoes going outside. Wonderful to see Stephanie again hope we can see more of her in the future again. ☺️❤️

Big miss on the lack of barefoot testing, which is what I do during warm months. But there are other things to consider too. In cold months with slippers, socks minimize the sweat going into the slippers. And there's also just the weirdness angle... you'd have to defend an inherently weird style/clothing choice to everyone else. So, yeah, the only viable choices are two socks or no socks.

Okay Matpat and Steph.... Now what about going 0 socks completely barefoot?

This may be far-fetched, but Mat's habit of removing one sock, usually the left, might've caused his left foot to adapt and heat itself up more than the other. If they tried it both ways, they could prove or disprove this. I hate socks, sleeves, and prefer shorts over pants, have always been that way because they make me feel restricted and I've noticed especially in recent years that I'm naturally warmer than family members who, growing up, were taught to dress for the season not neccessarily the weather.

The chemistry between Matt and Steph is honestly hashtag goals. The banter, the way they play off of each other, the teasing and friendly competition... It's all just so wholesome. Ollie is being raised by an amazing couple of parents! And that's NOT just a theory... It's a fact.

Honestly from all of the channels this theory is my favorite. Steph needs to be apart of more theory videos! You two are adorable but more importantly this was an incredibly fun and silly theory and it seemed like you two had a blast making it.

I'm only 4 minutes into the video and I'm already loving it. Just watching Mat and Steph's wholesome dynamic is just so entertaining!

Just thinking of ideas could you guys ever do a style theory episode involving shoes? It’s kind of nuts how expensive they are and I kind of realize something most shoes have a point on the top which crunches up your toes so they can’t move as much and spread out. Just thought it might be fun.

I love watching Matt and Steph talking. They genuinely seem to enjoy each other's company and the fact that they can talk about random topics with ease is 10/10 friendship level goals

It's so weird, yet nice to hear voiceover commentary from Steph paired with Mat. I know she's done it a few times before, but I don't think I've ever seen it last the whole video.

I have a suggestion for a style theory! I wish they explain why do we need to change perfumes each season? Or like why are there scents that won’t work if it’s like summer or winter? This always bothered me when I was a kid, but I use it as an adult. Like I can “detect” that this is for summer or this is for winter. This is slowly becoming my favourite Theory channel it's just so unhinged at times like this is basically a mix between solving a silly argument, merch promotion and fan service for wikifeet users 😂

I had this impending feeling that he would make a theory about this. It’s also because temperature regulation thing is the reason why I sleep with sweaters and covers on while having the fan on 24/7. Mostly because I prefer sweaters and I i get hot or cold easily, plus the one sock thing actually feels refreshing once you try it

Hey don't rag on Steph for the Heat Miser reference! That's the best holiday movie ever, no questions! All that said, no socks while sleeping is best, and 2 socks during the day. Mat, talkin to you specifically...you have a kitty. How does it feel stepping on the stray pebble of kitty liter on the kitchen floor in socks? How about with no socks? While both suck, you need to acknowledge that that's what I call a "poopy toe rock", and the sock provides a barrier between you and the residual poo. So, you step on it without a sock, you're stepping on a poop rock. 2 socks for the win...enjoy 😂

Three thoughts: 1) More theories like these, please! 🎉 2) Others have mentioned no sock trial and half-worn sock trial, but I would also like to propose sticky bottom sock trial (usually found in warm sleeping socks, they look like the bottom of kids' onesies) 3) Why does MatPat not just start the day with one sock? Or have a designated mini sock hamper? I always joked about putting a hamper under my brother's desk for his socks (which he took off in pairs) because I could always see like a dozen down there...

I could never wear just one sock... because then I'd be getting all sorts of kitty litter on my feet! But actually my preferred foot covering is actually slippers- they protect my feet from kitty litter, keep my feet warm, and are less slippery than socks. But it's easier to take off a slipper than socks, imo.

My favorite kind of slippers are the 1s with the ankle straps to help my slippers stay put on my feet when I need to wear and use them even if I know that its detriments and limits are that they will take longer and even harder to take off especially if I buy or got a bad pair of strap slippers or sandals.

The conclusion is that sockless is SAFER. Steph was still cold, and that is the reason she wears them.

This is genuinely a so much more fun video than normal with having steph participate in the V/O. I love their relationship dynamic, they're so fun

Slippers is the superior option. It gives you the traction of going barefoot without leaving feet sweat on your floor. And it helps keep feet warm

I started wearing socks inside out because of an autistic-coded character played by Sean Connery in Finding Forrester.

Throughout my whole childhood I would walk around in just one sock for one reason or another. Sometimes it's because something got stuck in there or, as Matpat experiences, one foot felt hotter than the other. As I've gotten older I've found myself doing it a lot less - especially now that we have a dog, who is prone to swallowing socks whole.

Why did it take me this long to realize one of the driving forces behind this theory channel is their own merch….

I don't wear socks in bed unless it is very cold, or else I over heat. I feel Steph though, I go to the doctor for my yearly and I'm like high-96 to mid-97 fahrenheit and when I ask her why I'm so cold she's like "better dental hygiene means less inflammation which leads to lower over all body temp."

I love that Steph showed up in a theory again. We don't see her often anymore.

Look how far we've come. From everyone not believing Mat actually wore one sock after he revealed it on Gtlive and all of us being shocked/horrified once it was demonstrated to be true on food theory. Mat has finally done it. I hope I never have to think about this again.

I don't care what the results will say - ain't no way I'm only wearing one sock. 😂 Also, if you don't sleep with ANY socks, then you'll naturally release heat from both feet. Besides, sleeping with ANY socks on is uncomfortable for me.

I'm the same about sleeping, unless it's REALLY cold - but the discomfort from coldness has to heavily outweigh the discomfort of socks... and even then they have to be the super stretchy fuzzy bed sock type socks... and I end up kicking them off in my sleep when I'm apparently warm enough 😅

We need a sequel. Bare feet will not take this insult lying down!

These would be muchmore fun and meaningful with a solid control group. So in this case: A NO SOCKS RUN! Because yes, we are comparing one sock vs 2 socks, but it's important to understand the benefit of any sock, as opposed to no sock before saying 1 sock is the best sock method.
