Ah, the sound of 70's rally cars, they were SO awesome! 👍

To me, no other car can ever scream 'Sportscar' as much the Stratos does even today. The proportions, the colours, the pipes, the single-minded rally winning purpose behind its design .. pure pedigree!

If there's a car that looks badass after 45 years as it did when it came out, is this one. That rear end...

November 1974 Kielder Forest Northumberland at 01:00 in the morning and it's freezing cold. I was there with my Dad to watch the RAC Rally coming through. The sound of the rally cars in the forest was amazing. However, just one sound was music to my ears, the Lancia Stratos driven by Sandro Munari! Two Lancias came through that night and we managed to see them at the service stop at Bowness. I don't think there's been a better looking car design since, irrespective of its functional merits!

THIS is why you buy large speakers/expensive headphones!

Think it's fair to say you hadn't seen a rally until you'd seen a Stratos. Saw my first one at Olivers Mount Scarborough on the 1975 RAC Rally. Steam coming off the tyres. Blood stirring sound. Pointy, darty little shark of a car. Was totally wowed. Unforgettable. One did an extra lap, as a nice bonus for the speccys. Fell in love with rallying; and saw them in the forests, their natural habitat.

omg finally. All I've ever seen is pictures, this car sitting still, or vintage clips with no sound and only narrators discussing how great it was. NOW I HAVE SOUND. my ears thank you.

I've not been in a Stratos, but I've driven an 037 Stradale owned by a friend.. Second only to the same guys F40 as my favorite car ever.. Offered him my XKR for either one, but he declined.. I thought it was a good deal🤣😂🤣

Such a timeless design

As a youngster back in 78 there was a show in Wembley where all the top rally drivers talked about there Rally cars it was called "Star Talks" also the rally cars were there too and that Stratos looked amazing back then,,gorgeous car,thanks for a great vid,,

Ahh back when cars sounded amazing.

Holy of holies, the Lancia Stratos in the Safari Rally Kenya - the sound, the looks .... a church service was on-going and the two stratos happened to approach from a long distance - the service stopped as the pastor and his congregation ran out to watch the cars ... There's a special edition Safari Rally Lancia Stratos - most sort after. It has a distinct green cheetah image stamped on its chassis.

That overrun sound is orgasmic.

Lamborghini C. are nice, even the Ferrari F40 are spectacular (quick escape door cable!), but the Lancia Stratos is simply the best, perfect in design and sounds tough.

Just needed Markku Alen at the wheel, cigarette hanging out the window.

The little monster! I have loved this car since I was a kid in the 80’s!

I was really shocked by Stratos when I knew it in 1977, I was junior high school student, by the book written for Monte Carlo Rally. Best of the best !

These things are notoriously twitchy and prone to spinouts, yet it was going HARD. That driver has balls of steel and I salute him.

@@PassportToPimlico The fact the suspension is primarily designed for uneven terrain sure isn't dong it any favours. It's likely stiffened up for asphalt, but still.

I don't wanna start a debate, but, as an Italian, i still can't understand how FCA can't revive a brand like Lancia...with a history like this if they start selling unique models like in the past they can make milions of euros :/

they seem like the kind of company that just likes to play it safe in terms of business decisions. Look what they did to Maserati for example, turned a luxury brand into mediocre cars that look nice from the outside but are otherwise boring and generic

In the mid seventies the local Lancia dealer had one, having owned two Lancia's and negotiating a third he let me have a drive in the Stratos. The first thing I noticed was how translucent the doors were. The Stratos went eventually to America and cost just £25K

And a ridiculously short wheelbase too! These things were demons in the corners, it very much intended to kill you, but if you could tame it, NOTHING was keeping up with you.

I'd take a rally spec Stratos over any modern supercar!

Rally spec Lancia 037 stradale is a better looking car, and the last rear wheel drive car to beat the 4WD monsters.. Even the homologation 037's are an amazing drive..

But Stratos is not a Supercar. Its purposely designed as a Race Car. There are some amazing modern Race Cars.
