Luckily & gratefully there is really nowhere speed can be challenged.👍 Just be respectful of wildlife. (These modern Tesla might tell their drivers what's around the next bend..but it also records evevything done behind the wheel !) I digress. The Volvo S60R 5L Turbo sounds simply glorious in the woods! As I'm quite sure the Lancia Delta Evo would!

He also got the High Fidelity meaning wrong: it was an exclusive club of owners who had purchased at least 5 new Lancias, organized by the brand with events, meetings, and of course many advantages for the members. In the early 60s the club members started to race their cars under the club's name until Lancia finally decided to race as well using the HF name as its reparto corse (racing division). It must be noted that Lancia owners were mostly gentlemen at the time, to the point that Lancia made a small book and some badges called "Lancia chivalry" with a distinguished code of counduct for Lancia drivers on the streets.

Generally all cars are built to serve pretty much the same function, but its the different approaches and details that manufactures put into their cars that fascinate me. Its what gives each car its own character. I adore the super exotics, but Im just as enthusic about the more everyday cars too, for all their individuality and mad little 'quirks'. It was "cute", reliable (the engine was ultra simple) and nothing else :) VERY small (there was even a joke back then: do you know how to fit 4 elephants in a 500? 2 in the front and 2 in the back") very low power (18HP), but light (560kg with all fluids) and very stable even on the snow and easy to drive. It was the equivalent of the "Smart for 2" (but with 4 seats) back in the sixties and it was a typical female car. Not a car anyone, apart young girls/ladies, would fancy. The fancy ones in the 60/70s were Alfa Romeo (like the small but powerful 1300 Junior) or, staying in the Fiat area, the Fiat Dino 2400cc or, to keep it small, the Fiat 600 Abarth or the Ritmo Abarth in the 80s

And other corrections: HF it´s for "Helefantino Formula" that´s why ther´s an Elefhant. The pedals are not stock one´s, those are aftermarket and are fixed over the stock rubber ones The flash light it´s a malfunction, very common on italian brands in the 80´s The piece around the gear lever it´s a aftermarket piece from Isotta (aftermarket tuning company from italy), not a stock one! The light at the trunk it´s also aftermarket and probably is connected to the wires of the external back light, that´s why they have to be on. The original Delta doesn´t have a trunk light The side vent badge is also aftermarket. The stock ones are different. I know, it's the nerd in me talking but... HF stands for High Fidelity, a Lancia owners club run by the factory back in the 60s. You needed to have purchased at least 6 Lancias (later was 10) to get an emblem from the factory (with a star for each Lancia you had), then overtime it was used in the Lancia Fulvia and became a symbol of Lancia's most sporting models. An about the elephants, Gianni Lancia chose an elephant as a good luck token for their first competition cars because in Eastern mythology a running elephant (with its tusks up) signifies 'victory'...

It also also the norm in Europe at the time. In European reviews of the era it was common for people to specify whether or not electric windows were fitted to both or front and rear, front only or not at all. Hatches in Europe were (and are) family vehicles, so it was generally regarded that the back seats are for kids, with the parents up front, so the back usually did get less creature comforts (and less stuff for the kids to play with / break). Personally also I don't see the point. Front electrics are for the driver to be able to lower the passenger window from their seat to be able to see clearly if the window has rain or frost on it, and to be able to put their own down in one quick press to pay for parking / tolls / drive-thru etc.
