I hate these questions because my brain becomes scrambled eggs

I had an interview with a government agency a couple weeks ago. There were 3 interviewers and a total of 10 behavioral questions! No questions at all concerning job specifics, qualifications or experience! I gave it my best shot (from the hip) and fortunately got the job! Thanks for these great videos!

I agree! He is relatable and I’m able to grasp his concept. He cuts straight to the point and doesn’t give you long and drawn out responses to questions that you will not remember. I do not have a gift of gab. I need a simple and straight forward answer to give the recruiters/hiring managers, etc.

I left my most recent blue collar job due to safety concerns within the company, which the employer was extremely unhappy about. If a company I interview for is asking for references from prior jobs, how do I handle that if I feel a owner/supervisor will speak poorly of me out of spite?

Great question, and one I am sure many people can relate to. It certainly depends on the industry, but buy and large I would suggest contacting clients who did business with your company and see if they remember you. If they do, there is a chance they would be willing to put in a few good words for you. Other than that, you can reach out to coworkers, family members, friends, faith leaders (if that is your thing) or really anyone you think had a good impression of you and would be willing to speak on your behalf.

These have been so helpful for interview prep, could you do one on how you are supposed to physically sit in a interview? Posture, crossed leg, straight leg, sit back in the chair, lean towards the interviewer.....ect

Can you help with this question? I'm in marketing and trying to build my case or show my skills during the interview. I'm always told I don't get specific enough sharing how I might have solved a problem in my past roles. I'm trying to bridge the gap between being specific and over simplifying what I do. Its impossible to be prepared for every situation.

I haven't worked I've been a stay-at-home mother for 22 years and now I have an opportunity in my community to work at the local casino today is my job interview and these videos have helped me quite a lot with organizing how to answer professional questions after such a gap in my work history. I definitely won't be bringing up anything about that in this interview.

Homemaking requires a great deal of transferrable skills. You know they will want patience…search your memory banks for when you needed to show it. They will want attention to detail..ponder when you needed that. Teamwork…etc.

I was an academic contract worker. All projects had to be completed on time - no exceptions. Perhaps because most scientific projects lasted beteen one and four years, there were annual progress reports. It was understood that these jobs were not 40 hours per week. Considerable overtime was required and the number of hours worked almost always increased towards the deadline to ensure that the project was completed BEFORE the deadline and submission of the final report and all data.

In another video you wrestle with the question about whether to disclose that you are interviewing with another company. As an honest person, I can comfortably say: “No I am not currently exploring positions with other companies, nor am I interviewing elsewhere” then jokingly “ I can’t speak about the future, but I hope it’s not necessary after today”. Smile. I am not currently doing those things because I am currently in the room with them, interviewing. Let them interpret your words as they wish.

i have a question here. i was once asked by an interviewer that "what makes you outstanding and shine?" my first thought was that she's asking about my strength, so i told her my strength. then she followed up like "are those making you unique? so you're saying your colleagues dont have those qualities?" i was totally stumped and felt like if i said yes, it looks like im bad mouthing my colleagues; if i said no, that it's not making me unique and outstanding... i made up something but i knew it's fuked up and i didnt get to the next round. i told my friends, they said they never had questions like this before and thought the question is stupid... how would you answer a question like that?

I've interviewed hundreds of candidates and typically I only ask follow up questions if the candidate "opened up a door" by giving an answer I either didn't like or really liked and wanted clarification on. Without knowing more about your answer or the position, it's possible you said something that sounded negative to them and they wanted to give you a bit more rope to hang yourself with. Or, the job itself may require quick thinking or be stressful so the interviewer wanted to see how you'd handle that situation. Or they were just being a jerk. It could be a million things unrelated to your performance. The job-seeking process is like speed dating and ten times more humiliating, but it helps to not take anything personally. You could be the greatest candidate in the world, but you got passed over because the boss had to hire HER boss's niece. Perseverance guarantees success. Count on it!

Behaviorial and situational test SUCKS. I dont understand y some company do these type of thing. It's an hour of ur time spent doing these questions and at the end of the day you dont even go through the 1st stage. Can someone please explain to me y these r necessary?

@Tafari I I mean.... I've seen it myself over periods of 20-30 years.... 48 with my parents. I've also seen a few of the far between people that actually changed their lives. But they're not the "norm"

Hi, How do you answer to such questions of a time when u missed a deadline, or handled conflict? I am an extremely responsible individual and never missed a deadline nor had any crazy conflicts in my past positions, please advise how do i answer without sounding pompous.

Im the same; i can’t recall a time where I’ve missed a deadline. Id say that and add that “I’m sure I’ve missed a deadline before, which is probably why i always seek to fully understand the task at hand to set realistic and achievable deadlines, with a built in contingency; ‘under commit’ and ‘over deliver’. If i were to miss a deadline i would be sure to know in advanced, i would communicate this to those impacted as early as possible, and support them to mitigate the impact of missing the deadline, setting a new expectation that i know can be achieved” - i have a big interview coming up in few weeks. also: I think that conflict could also mean resistance, to change, ideas, decisions, improvements, requests for info or to perform tasks etc. If you work with people, you have experienced conflict - anything were human emotion or frustration has been expressed. Also consider that the examples you give do not necessarily need to be work related, if you’re really stuck.

I had a HR recruiter ask "What did 2020 teach you?"
