The Companies Expert

The Companies Expert

I help jobseekers, entrepreneurs, and business owners.

I am a practicing management consultant, former CEO, and entrepreneur. I have taught business at the post-graduate level, mentored startup founders, and worked across five industries (in both large and small businesses).

The BEST WAY TO CONTACT ME with questions is via my weekly interactive live streams on this channel. Email is not the way. Unfortunately, I do not provide 1-on-1 coaching for jobseekers. I do have courses that can help, though.

The only place I've seen special parking is for the surgeons and emergency doctors on call next to a hospital. This one I understand.

How would a company that wanted to hire you find out you were fired in the first place. Former employers can't verify any information other than dates of employment and your position with them.

Respectfully follow up twice over two weeks and some will come forward and apologize I've found. They'll reveal they basically moved forward...but why not save a huge hassle with a brief and extremely professional confirmation of this matter...

LOL .. people answer questions in the context in which they mind-space operates. As an SDET (QA) it is my job to root out and resolve ambiguity. My decade of experience has taught me to identify and eliminate it. This makes me a BETTER QA, not a worse QA. The worse QA, might have a ridiculously high tolerance for it because, through the magic of dunning kruger, they don't even realize it is there. I see this a lot actually. Middle management trying to "fix" something that almost definitionally makes the problem worse.

I had a job that I worked at for a year and was fired. I couldn’t lie on job apps and my resume about it. The first two interviews I had wanted to hear why I was fired, and I told them, and they told me I didn’t get the job. I considered leaving that job off my resume and lying about what I did that year. Eventually I got a job through an old friend and after 4 years moved on to a better job.

I know a gal that always took a part time job at places she wanted to work. She said companies always underestimate the amount of help they need and it always turned into a full time job within 2 months.

Business hair hahaha. Great content!! I did it in my last interview, and I've got the job, but that information still puts me in a strategic position nowadays. I'm frequently updating myself about the company and our market position

If you plan to lead people, you will deal with much more ambiguity than an individual contributor. And the degree of ambiguity increases dramatically as you move up the management ladder.

It’s not a question of skill or talent for me. It is age. One interviewer came out and said “at your age, you would be better suited for our sales trainee position”, which I didn’t get either. The last one was on the phone and needed my DL for security clearance purposes, never heard from her again after she got it. Qualified with experience for these jobs, but then don’t get hired.

This question is ambiguous. You should have high tolerance to ambiguity on your input and low tolerance to ambiguity on your output.

Question: What if I was communicating with the HR, but interviewed by other people? I can get their email, but don’t want to look creepy and desperate texting them directly out of nowhere 😂

I managed to get a job in a new technical field, without prior experience and without a bachelors degree. The odds were stacked against me, and your material gave me a boost, for sure. Nice work!

Wait, what country are You in? You sound American. Thanks for this program, especially today. I feel like I'm getting whiplash from all the constant re-imaginings of my future. I was teaching English overseas, and because of COVID, stayed for 6 years. Now, I want my old industry back in remodeling homes, and now sales seems like the only thing I can do well and get paid enough to live in my Los Angeles. I was supposed to return to my friend's house, but after they won a horrific battle over a 1950 goat easement, I couldn't go there. I'm going nuts, I'm applying for jobs in LA while I'm in Texas, AND I need a place to live AND another car to drive to client's homes. My car sat at their property unstarted, I don't get what was so hard about driving to the supermarket. I am now terrified to honestly tell the interviewer that I have to do everything ALL at once. They must verify my employment for me to get a home. Isn't relocating to start a job a fairly common thing to do?

Please help. I have a situation. A boss that terminated me for nothing. So now I have a mark on my record. I don't want to lie when I go for an interview and say I don't have a termination. What can I do and say. Also i need an answer on that application. I have been saying wrong termination under review. Plus this is an at will state and the boss can walk in and fire for nothing and just tell you to leave. Thanks.
