STUDIO VLOG! Beginnings and the ART CYCLE | mixed media SUPPLIES | COLLAGE and SKETCHBOOK painting!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We are doing all of the things today! It was a rainy day in the studio (ok well maybe outside the studio) and I wanted to make a studio art vlog and here we are! I talk about being at the beginning for new and experienced artists and how we find our way with the artistic cycle. PLUS my new goals in my art and going deeper with my process.
Tons of mixed media supplies (I chat about my favorites and Liquitex Fluid acrylic paint - it's new!) as I organize supplies and make a palette for plein air painting. Bringing the outdoors into the studio is something on my mind lately.
And then we take some time to wind down and paint in my sketchbook (or art journal if you like!). It's a loose process that never needs to be finished. Starting with random collage and exploring an idea for a bird nest. Come explore and play with supplies!

I need to add that this is what you are trying to explain what you feel you stay away from. And I totally agree

Thank you for sharing what is motivating you as a Artist right now and your preparation/planing for a new direction. I like your suggestion of not 'finishing' a page of letting it sit for future motivation. Looking forward to your outside Art.

Your Taylor Swift analogy for collections of art is literal perfection! It’s something I also wish to see more of and keep in mind with my own work! Gorgeous video, I love how knowledgeable and passionate you are in what you want your art to be perceived as! Just lovely 💛💛

Hi Lauren! I’ve never used tempera sticks, but I’m curious about them. I do have gelatos. How would you say tempera sticks compare to gelato sticks? Thanks for sharing your knowledge & experience!

Hi! I find that the gelatos stay a little tacky and have kind of a waxy appearance and feel. They can also be a bit transparent. The tempera are matte, they dry completely and they’re more opaque. If you want to be able to put like colored pencil or something over the tempera you can do that with those once it’s dry whereas I don’t find that true with gelatos. Hope that helps!

Fun video! Is that a sketch book or mixed media paper? It doesn't seem to be buckling under all the paint and water.

It’s a royal talens sketchbook. It’ll buckle some if it gets really wet. The weight of the paper is a little heavier than good sketchbook paper and less heavy than mixed media paper. Moleskein sketchbooks have a similar paper weight too. Thick enough to handle some mess but not so heavy that they can’t fit a lot of pages in the book.

So I feel that you worry about the audience when it would make no sense because we come here to see how how an artist works not how they perform.
