Brilliant . . . Loved it .. Like the way you simplify things with the lighting . . . . Then talk and make the model feel at ease so she's at her best for the shot . . . . . A master at work

Liked your use of the one light. I’ve never did any studio work and your examples using that one big light gives me some confidence to try some studio portraits. The entire video was so interesting I didn’t move at all. And NO interrupts with ads. Great!

Thank you and so good to hear you liked it. Go ahead and try studio portraits. It's not that hard, if you keep the lightning set up simple like mine in the video.

This was a great watch for me, Matti. Thanks for making and sharing it. My favourite set-up was with the brimmed hat. I liked your choice of shooting in 1:1 aspect ratio. By way of interest, did you shoot in 1:1 or did you shoot in 3:2 and crop later? Why was your thinking behind your choice?

Thanks. I shot in 1:1 to see my composition, but of course the RAW files include the full sensor area. I like 1:1 for portraits, it's easier for me to compose.

Great video. Can you tell me the brand and model of light and umbrella. I really like your setup and I was planning on getting my first speed light but this would be better for video too. i like seeing the light as it is. Thanks!

Thanks. I don't remember the lights, because it was not my studio😀 There are many good LED lights, like Godox and Ledgo for example. Get one in 100-150W power range and it should be bright enough for the kind of photos I shot in the video.

Interesting that you both use "always on" lighting instead of traditional strobe. I like the simplicity and lack of complexity in setting up flash. Can you tell us what size/brand lighting setup used?

  • @mattisulanto

I'm ok with any type of lighting, but that's what we had in the studio. But like you said LEDs are very simple compared to strobes. To be honest I didn't pay much attention to the lights, I just used them😀

Do you find that the different compression of a 50mm vs 85mm is more flattering for some models?

  • @mattisulanto
