My Favorite Prime Lenses for PORTRAIT Photography in my Small Home Studio

Ойын-сауық

In this video I discuss the best portrait lens in my opinion for my small home studio. I do this by showing what the strength of each lens is, and finally I make my subject choose what she thinks her best photo is, reinforcing or contradicting my recommendation.

Clear, concise, good view especially when the whole room is showing (it helps estimate distance between lens and subject). Thanks

Coco seems to be much more comfortable as your model than, say, a year ago. Plus, her posing has improved too. Maybe you have been coaching her, or someone has. In any case, she is a natural, elegant, model. It would be hard to choose the best from today’s shots. The groups were suitable each for a purpose. Nicely done. Thanks.

Thanks for these videos Jiggie & Coco. I love the way you explain things in depth and keep it simple. I still use my 5D Mkii for headshots with a 70-200 f 2.8. I only ever use 2 lenses my other being the 24-70 f2.8. I shoot performing arts and use a Sony A7iii for my theatre work. I use my same Canon lenses with a Sigma MC11 adapter. They work flawlessly...or have so far.

Hi, I wonder which lens to buy for shooting portraits full body and close ups for Sony A iii (for 3 meters room). Should I buy something between 35 and 135 mm - one lens, or to buy 2 prime lenses. Little bit confused what would be the best choice. Thank you

If you could make a video on how to set up lights for couple and family photoshoot in a home studio that will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance. Keep up the great work.

Thank you for the video Sir Jiggie. I also use those focal length (35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.2 and 85mm f1.8). Didn't have the 135 though. Also using an APS-C sensor.

I usually use the following prime lenses or focal lengths for portraits with a full-frame camera: 1. Wide-angle lenses for group portraits and environmental portraits. (24, 28, 35) 2. Normal lenses for environmental portraits, full-length portraits, and 3/4 length portraits. (40, 45, 50, 55) 3. Telephoto lenses for half-length portraits, head & shoulder portraits, and tight face portraits. (85, 105, 135, 180)
