Students facing ‘very high increases’ to HECS debt despite govt’s planned changes
Shadow Education Minister Sarah Henderson says students are facing “very high increases” in their HECS debt despite the Albanese government’s planned changes.
HECS debts will be lowered for more than three million Australians under reforms designed to stop the loans growing faster than wages.
“Even with these changes, we are seeing a forecast indexation rate this year of four per cent,” Ms Henderson told Sky News Australia.
“This is not going to provide students very much relief at all.
“They are still facing very high increases in their student debt.”

I’ve had student debt for 11 years….working full time and paying off my hecs…my debt has gone from 92k to 85k. I will die with a hecs debt. We need our compulsory payments to come off the amount owing in real time…NOT AFTER ITS BEEN INDEXED.
Such a rich country and students have to pay for the uni. 😂😂😂 Unbelievable!!!
I am happy to be corrected but the last time I looked Jason Clare was the Minister for EDUCATION - does he not know the meaning of 'from the River to the Sea' means - so I am wondering if he can count to ten - can he read and write - does he know his two times tables - or can he spell cat. Where did this Minister for EDUCATION go to school - was he taught anything or like many others in society today was he just indoctrinated. It's a worry isn't it.
Should be a Big Turnout in Dublin ☘️
mmm I am starting to understand the problems here. hmm. the region should be multicultural. and tolerant of eachother. While the government is perhaps a little over-representative
