    Hi, Eric. This is 166 Missouri Kansas City (Richard). I just talked to you on the CB a few minutes ago. Thank you for the contact and it was a real treat to hear you on the radio since your KZread channel is what got me interested in getting back into the world of CB radio this summer. I'm running Bearcat 980 and an old Super Magnum ground plane antenna that I found in my barn that was my father in-laws from decades ago., 73s brother!

    Been out of the CB circles since 1979. Forget everything I knew which wasn’t much. I did talk a lot of SB and skip and had a BaseStation and mobile. This ‘meter stuff” is that getting into the Ham circle? Do I need a license to use those?What is the difference from those and the old 29 and 40 channel radios we had in the 1970’s? What is the lowest cost setup of Base and Att I can get started with now and actually talk out of my local area? Retired and on low fixed income so budget is limited. I had a lot of good memories from those days and still remember my handle, KEBT 6772 Star-duster. Farthest contact I remember making on SB was Newfoundland….

I'm a truck driver my wife drives with me after owning the RADIO for five years we found ourselves driving two separate trucks I was talking to her while she was in our truck talking on the Stryker . I got an RCI 2950, in my car a number of years ago. I had a blast with it! Then I got the RCI 2980 base. It was basically the same insides as the 2950, but it was an a large base cabinet. If I had to pic a con on the RCIs, it was that it was really a digital component. Everything was digital. It did not produce an analog sound as with many other radios. So the voice was 'synthesized,' via the radio, making you voice transmit in a low tone. 'Clear, with no static or background noise. And it wouldn't matter if you used a boost source with the radio, to crank up the sound. It always sounded the same... Low and faint. I tried using a linear power supply, pumping 300 watts! I tried a 200 watt modulation booster. I tried a powermic, to get more sound. But because it's processed through a synthesizer in the radio, the results were basically the same. It wasn't like the old Cobras, where you could clip a resister to get more modulation from the radio. And RCIs had that 'microcircuitry,' much like in today's modern computers and cell phones. The printed circuitry was embedded into the motherboard, to protect it from 'rough riding,' in a vehicle. So there wasn't really anything you could do to get any better sound other than was provided.

    I have been on the radio since 1974. My first base station was a Lafeyette Telstat 140ssb in 1977. The year we went from 23 to 40 channels. I still use this radio at home at night. I use the Galaxy 2547 base here in my office here in midtown Manhattan. The Galaxy is great on AM and fair on SSB. The STRYKER is the most stable radio I have ever used better than ICOM or KENWOOD. I use my 995hpcs in my car and pickup truck . I need to keep my hands on the wheel not the clarifier knob. Its been modified and does 120W and I run it in to a straight 6 pill. I never had any problems and make contacts around the world while in traffic. You will be more successful running it as a base station. ENJOY !!!

    About 4 years ago, I got back into CB, which I hadn't used since the early 90's, thanks to your videos. And I'm using a President McKinley and a 102" whip, also thanks to your videos. I've wanted to try FM, but the lack of SSB on the radios ive been looking at made me hold off. Now, again, thanks to you, I've found my new radio! I've spoken to two of the people you heard on 38LSB, 101 and Needle Bender. Also was surprised that i spoke to Mower Junkie one time, too. Still waiting to hear 707 when I'm driving around sometime! Thank you so much for your videos. You got me back into a hobby I gave up many years ago. I never even listen to the radio (music) in my truck anymore and the CB is always on. One odd thing and maybe you could tell me why, I got a more consistant SWR, and I also transmit and receive with my whip tied down. I have jt attached with a bracket i made that comes out between the bed and utility toolbox cap right behind the cab on the passenger side, and its tied down using paracord to the back of the roof rack. My friend said something about horizontal antennas working well with sideband, and although my antenna isnt completely horizontal, could that have something to do with it? Also, the SWR was going all over the place as the antenna moved. Is that the signal reflection off the truck, or is there another reason? Its consistant mow that its tied down and moves very little. Thanks again for all your videos. I hope to stop missing all your livestreams kike i have the last few years. I always enjoyed catching up to you. 146 signing off from Western Massa-two-sh!ts

    Hey there! The 102 is a great antenna, but it does suffer from so much movement when driving that the signal pattern and SWR can change a lot. That said, I wouldn't sweat it. If it's low when standing still, it shouldn't ever get to the danger zone when driving around. Yes, some say SSB is better on horizontal antennas and they are sort of right. That idea comes from the fact that many of the larger base station setups use stacked beam antenna arrays and many of those are setup horizontal to cut down on the noise floor.

  • @ZommBleed

    @ZommBleed

    Wow, didn’t realize the 955 had so many Bells & Whistles! I’ve been running the 497 Stryker in my Big Truck for the last 3 years, and this thing has been a Bullet Proof Radio for me. It talks crystal clear, puts out Big Power (swings 175) and the most important thing is the Durability. This Radio has been beat on hard, as in, it has been Installed & De-Installed at least a half dozen times, rode on the Shelf in my Sleeper for probably 6 months while I ran my 300 watt Ranger for a while. It has seen some abuse and has never even hinted at letting me down. I may have to check out the 955 for Home use. Been thinking about setting up a Base Station Radio for years, just have never gotten around to it. Idk why either, because I probably own at 12-15 Radios ranging from 50 watts to 400+ watts. I may pick your Brain about Antennas, setup, etc for Base Station use. Great Video!

    I've had one for several years now and love it. Although it don't put out as much power on AM as some of its siblings without doing some modifications. Mine will do 20 watts on AM at full power how about yours? I don't run it full power though because I don't want to disturb the rock quarry and asphalt plants. This radio is in my dump truck and everyone stays on the plant channel of the given area all day. I take it out every night and can use it as a base or mobile in our personal vehicles in just a few minutes. I fixed a Cobra 29 someone gave me and now its my base. I left CB some 16 years back. It was extremely fun and I had a blast....at first. In my area there was a lot of activity. Different groups of guys on different channels including the group I was in channel 17 every evening. After I was in it for a couple years I decided to get a new radio a galaxy saturn with a linear, all new equipment. Well this upset the masses and it turned a fun hobby into a living nightmare. People playing music all the time when I tried to talk, people throwing carriers and so on. the jealously was pitiful. I went and got my ham ticket and later upgraded through the license and have been there every since. Now that's not to say there isn't hams out there that are the same but in my experience there are way less and I enjoy having actual conversations on there. Maybe its different now on 11 meters because the troublemakers from back in the day are either silent keys or in jail. I have been thinking of tuning the hf radio down to 27 meg to see if there is any activity.

    For anyone new to radio, you need to let them know this is not an average 11 meter CB radio but rather a 10 meter radio which is in the classification of "HAM" radio and requires at least a Tech Class FCC Amateur license to transmit

  • @mikemichael7879

    That is correct to TX on any Amateur frequency on any radio. A tech class license in the U.S. only allows a small portion of the 10 meter band from 28.000 to 28.299 MHz for CW (morse code) and 28.300 to 28.500 MHz for SSB voice and limits 200 watts of max power. No 12 meter operations at all unless the operator has a General class license and even then there are some limitations until an Extra class license is obtained. Most People easily covert these radios to transmit outside of the Amateur bands for CB use and the so called free-band frequencies. As long as they stay off the Amateur frequencies, let them do as they will because the FCC these days aren't likely enforcing it anymore. For the most part, stay above 26.000 MHz and below 27.800 MHz for transmitting and there shouldn't be a problem. Many mono band CB antennas can't transmit much passed that range before re-tuning anyway. I do encourage people to feel free and listen in on Amateur bands which is perfectly legal, just do not transmit there. Maybe this will encourage more to take their radio enjoyment to the next level and get an Amateur license! 73

    The 2013 Stryker mark 1 is the best of the bunch.. that DNR takes away from the sensitivity of the bottom end (proven) it's a gimmick on most radios now, the Mark one Anytone board has quality components on the board and is only in the 2013 model and is by far the best board all other radios that came after have a board that has been outsourced to be made cheaper for cost.. the only other rig out there that has the same identical board as the Stryker mark 1 is the Anytone Quad 5.. all other boards were made at cost and have cheaper parts in them.. the quad 6 has the version five board and is a nasty rig in comparison to the Stryker mark 1 and Anytone Quad 5.. The Stryker mark 2 sounds nothing like the mark 1 on air.. the first series 1 Anytone board in the Stryker mark 1 and Anytone Quad 5 is the flagship board and is much superior in quality for transmit and receive.. All other boards that came after like the 2-3-4-5-6 version boards that are in around forty other radios were made at cost and outsourced to be made as cheap as possible that's why none of the other forty sound the same on air simply because the audio chip is cheap and nasty.. Research tells you many things when deciding to buy a radio.. It always makes me smile when one guy says his radio works better than his mates when they are using the same board the only difference is on those other forty or so rigs the front bezel looks different but the guts are identical.. people get fooled easily when they don't look into researching anything.. Kudos to the Stryker mark 1 and the Anytone Quad 5 they are by far the best rigs out there. All other Anytone boards are pants.

    I had one. Sadly it stopped working. Something about the cpu got to hot and melted the cpu board the striker tech said it was still under warranty so i got a President Lincoln 2 plus. Much more stable radio in my opinion. Anyway nice video. #12 Watkins Glen NY waving 🤘

    It's a nice radio, what's it cost? Would you please remind folks that using the radio on the Ham Band's required an Amateur radio License? That said, I like the looks of the radio. Thanks for a good video on the radio. Great job.

    I don't like to say prices now- The cost of everything is changing so fast. I did the price on one video and I keep getting comments on how the price is no longer what I said-- Some people were not really nice when they were telling me that

    I contacted Stryker a few months ago via email and to my surprise they responded within an hour. There's been chatter for some time now about them coming out with a base version of the 955. That's what I asked them about. The response I got was THEY WERE working on producing a base version but Carona Cooties set them way back. If this really plays out I'd hope it would be about the same size of my Galaxy DX 2547 or the Icom 7300. Still waiting...
