Caeric tbf in WoT you need to switch into your suspension mode and you can barely move then. But it still feels very nice.

@@ridge9066 Perhaps not 100% but it certainly wasn't as "jerky" as the controls are in WT. It has pretty superb fine adjustment thanks to its dual engine setup with the diesel more optimised for slow, preciser maneuvers.

They need to fix the reloadtime also. In wartime conditions it were able to fire 30 rounds/minute but it wore out the barrel faster. During training/peacetime it had a rate of fire of 3 rounds/sec. The hullaim on the real tank is/were incredible smooth and precise and the gun itself were extremely accurat.

I like how Gajin has implemented a vehicle that shows how bad their game engine handles driving models.

this vehicule showcase very well how disgusting transmission and ground traverse are in war thunder. it has been bad from day 1, and it's incredible just how difficult it is to traverse a tank in this game

i tried driving the s-tank with the steering mapped to my joystick, and it is SOOOOO much smoother. Too bad i cant find a way to bind the suspension to the joystick though :/

@@marcosalvarez7096 Speaking of VT1-2, try switching to secondary gun and aim. You'll experience not being to able to change the gun's elevation, same thing goes for italian R3 T106

Well the Swedish were quite pragmatic, the development went like "-the turret is the most hited part of the tank, let's get rid of it! - And let's fix the gun to the chassis, like that we can make an effective autoloader! -And to aim? -Let's move all the tank, even for elevation!" also they don't have a lot of cities to fight in, and if they do, it's means that the Soviets already won

Pretty much, trying to fight any potential threat to Sweden in conventional warfare was pretty much deemed idiotic as we'd never have the numbers to compete against the USSR (or the Yanks should we somehow end up on the opposite side) so the focus was completely on unconventional warfare using terrain and mobility to basically play guerilla warfare to the max.

The story behind the “Strv 103 series”! Sweden knew it would never go on the offensive and therefore created one of history’s best defense plans if war were to break out. The whole plan with the 103 was to peak a hill, fire some shots and then run away, this system made so that the enemies would never know where the 103 were to peak next and therefore would not be able to plan an attack with over 60% rate of success. Later versions of the 103 were also equipped with a huge shovel/digging-blade which not only provided additional armor but also gave the tank the option to dig itself down making it almost impossible to spot the 103. This was and still is one of the best tank systems ever made!

Well the C variant have a pivot chaft (giggity) so it can burrow down in the woods and other terrain, making the tank almost invisible. And with a dedicated backwards driver that can go as fast backwards as forwards, your in for a scooting shooting time!

Me and my buddies have been running the Strv 103, and we have come up with the nickname "The Angular Swedish Boy" : Edit - I believe the reason the aiming chop has to do with the transmission not being modeled correctly. Snail models it after a clutch driven transmission, where the Strv had "The transmission consists of a Bofors three-step automatic main gearbox with forward and reverse function in bevel gear. Steering is a regenerative double-differential system with a hydrostatic steering device, and is accomplished by handlebars on the tiller columns." I would argue part of the reason the aiming is so choppy is that as the engines rev up the incorrectly modeled transmission has to switch gears like a normal manual, compared to the Bofors automatic gearbox. If anything here sounds incorrect feel free to let me know :)

Germany in 6.7 is cancer anyway, always uptiered and many times alone (maybe with italy or japan, but that doesnt help) against all. The new leKPZ helps a bit but cant change the outcome of these matches -.- But with that one you can kill the swedish tank at least, if you are lucky...

Mirage German 6.7 is decent. It’s one of my favourite lineups. With the 262, Tiger II, Jagdtiger (bit obsolete) and the Panther II and the 10.5cm Tiger II. It’s a great lineup, people just like to complain because they can’t play German tanks properly. If they’re played right, they rack up kills and win easily, but most players rush into the caps and get themselves killed.

And realistic... Oh, and we built an SPG on an extended version of this tank chassi, it has an autoloader too. That one has it's magasine loaded with giant clips. Fourteen 155mm one-piece rounds to a clip. One clip to a standard EU cargo pallet. Six pallets to an ammo truck flatbed with crane. 2minutes to refill a spent magazine with one clip. 45 seconds to fire all 14 rounds out to 25km from one Bandkanon 1A. 4 SPGs to a squadron.

Later version of 103s will have 50mm UP armor in front and anti-HEAT slat armor in front of it.

As stated by someone working for the Swedish defence material acquisition Agency (FMV), that in the early 90s a T-72 testfired against a Strv 103 with the bars equipped and the round (BM22/23) went through the bars AND the Strv 103.

@ger du if the politicians hadn't sold them as scrap for less than the metal value in a single road wheel, they could have been retrofitted as amphibious ground combat drones/TDs now that the sensor and remote control hardware has been sufficiently miniaturized and reliable enough to handle the circumstances. Alas, that was not to be.

Irl this tank can dig itself down Into the ground. Tilt it forward with an plow attachment and it can dig a hole. Everything under the gun is under ground. Swedish strategies is defence. Hide the tank from the tracks and down and put some branches on top and its impossible to detekt

Gustav Kuriga, I don’t really mind it, it’s part of the game admittedly a stupid part but at least I can actually see said person, and the br range I play at 6.7 to 7.3 I know that is at least 1-2 t95/t28 sniping at long range so I’d much rather be killed through about 3 bushes rather then give said t95/28 the satisfaction of sniping me from long distance. I play low tier realistic though 5.7 to 3.0

Phly's censor sound is the best on KZread.

I remember in World of Tanks tanks that had a fixed gun could be aimed by just using the mouse, and the Hull would move with it when you were aiming without having to use the movement controls. Is that not possibile in War thunder with this tank? Seems strange it was a good feature, that was chooooooppy

I think that it’s possible in war thunder because when I tried out this tank I had mouse aim where the hull would follow where I pointed( booth horizontally and vertically) and I think it was on by default because I haven’t change the controls for hull aiming before. The thing is that when you drove the tank, the hull would follow. So if you looked right, left, up or down with your mouse the tank would face the same direction and you would drive that way. But nevertheless the aim was MUCH smother with mouse aim.

@@dubu_5129 If you bind the hull aiming to a key you drive around in "road travel" mode. Also there is a return to "center" button for better road travel. The tank aims better when you enter the hull aiming mode. Also the tank needs to be on semi-level ground for the best aiming other wise the scope bounces like crazy.

@jason nordstrom Honestly, WoT's portrayal of the Strv 103 and other hull-aiming vehicles is probably more realistic than WT's because the aiming actually works. You can see in Phly's vid how funky and imprecise the aiming is with the Strv, but in WoT it works almost exactly like every other vehicle - as it should. The UK and US conducted a study in the 1960s as to how well the Strv 103 could engage a target compared to the Chieftain or the M60 and found that the vehicle's design presented no inherent problems except a small (approximately half-second) increase to aim time. The Swedish system was capable of getting results every bit as accurate as a turreted tank despite its unconventional design, and in that respect WoT has WT beat.

As a Swede I've waited so long for this one. A bit difficult to learn with the aiming, however after a while you learn.. Love it!

The aiming in game is way to sloppy, In real trials the tank managed to hit almost the exact same point 2 times and turned the hole from the first shell into an oval with the second. The accuracy from the Strv is really god but Gaijin made it really, really bad.

@@ZETH_27 Yeah, probably a balancing feauture. I mean once you learn to play it, it can be really good at its BR. :)

Realistically, you don't push a button or something to activate the hydraulics, driver can actively work the hydros by twisting a knob that's integral to his driving "yolk" and turning it side to side is steering. Personally I think WoT got it right with their control setup for the tank as in real life you have much more fine adjustment for traversing whereas a mouse & keyboard/controller are much too coarse by comparison. Watch Nicolas Moran's video of "Inside the Chieftain's Hatch" for the Strv 103C, i think he details exactly this point.

No... WoT fucked it up by adding the siege mode as a push-button that takes time instead of just making it an automatic change based on movement speed. Eg: it should switch seamlessly and instantly on as the tank slows down to sneak up a hill and off when you push the pedal to the metal trying to GTFO regardless if going backwards or forwards.

@@SonsOfLorgar What I mean is the WoT version the tank auto tracks your point of aim instead of you manually turning the tank and gun only tracking elevation. The delay is dumb, yes, but it's there for their own balancing reasons as WoT is more arcade style than WT.

The aiming on that thing was supposed to have been some of the best before stabilized guns,, it would seem that part got lost in the translating to the game.

it's classified as an MBT by the swedes because it was used in their military doctrine like an MBT, but in war thunder context it is a tank destroyer. Stridsvagn can be translated to german as Kampfpanzer or in English as MBT showing the Swedish classification as such because the Swedes used all their MBTs primarily as defensive tanks. You could also compare it to the role of the challenger series which is also designed primarily as a defensive tank because of the lighter hull armour and the strong turret armour. The challenger and the Strv 103 are best-played defensively on medium to long distances, but both can also be pushed in closer combat but have a high disadvantage by doing so. In other words, you could argue that the lines between tank destroyer and MBT somewhat blur in the case of these Tanks. But those are just my thoughts about this topic.

No, our tank battalions primary job was to repel and then counter-attack the invasion force at the beech head. Thus, the tank was made for counter-offensive combat too. It worked because turret stabilization systems weren't able to fire accurately on the move at the time. This meant that tanks stopped when they were going to fire anyway. The STRV 103 had quick turning time and a fast working hydraulic system, and it was combined with the laser preselected targeting system controlled by and independent optic in the commanders station, meaning that the 103 could go from spotting a target to putting effective shells down range faster than almost any other contemporary tank.

I know from the Chieftain's Vid on the Strv 103 that it apparently is pretty smooth to aim due to the short track contact length. I'm not sure about this model that's in game but in theory it's overdone in game.

Wat thunders reason for removing vehicles is they didn’t fit any BR. So... what do they do? Add a vehicle which at 7.3-7.7 is completely op when facing 6.7 and below, but if this thing was at br 8.0 APFSDS would render it useless hmmmm

Actually, I checked it out in the armor viewer and it can bounce a surprising amount of apfsds. And the ones that do pen don't usually reach the crew. Only the top rounds actually killed crew members. Now I will admit that I didn't test every round out there, but I think I can say that its armor would still hold up at higher BRs

Stefan Nešić what APFSDS did you check? Even AUBL at 8.0 with it’s tiny round easily pens this thing head on and the round literally goes through the entire tank and goes out of the back. I’m not even talking about anything bigger.

It is a main battle tank, but it was used as a tank destroyer. It wasnt the only MBT in Sweden.

It is a very sophisticated mbt but the swedes who created it realy saw it as an mbt that's no joke or anything for them it was a normal tank

I also would like to point out that that tank is slower then what it should be. the STRV is actually very nippy able to cruse around 65 kph forwards AND backwards

This tank in World of Tanks is a phucking monster. The aiming is so disgustingly smooth. GayJerk EnTwatAnus just doesn't know how to code.

I didn't even notice it poops shells every time it fires like it scares itself... it's kind of cute.

This is a main battle tank in the same way that a Javelin missile is a sidearm. We are not saying that it is bad, it is just different and does not fit in that role. In the same way that if someone breaks into your house at night, you would not reach for a javelin missile, you wouldn't roll an STRV-103 through an urban area to weed out an enemy in a city. It was purpose built to destroy enemy armored vehicles in an open environment, which sounds exactly like a tank destroyer. But what can we expect from a country that's last war experience came at a time when they were using muskets and horses. Maybe if they had helped the rest of the world defeat the Nazis instead of just standing by and letting the Germans transport military equipment through their country in their efforts to invade Norway, they might have learned the definitions of various armored vehicles and how to use them.
