Strut Bar Install - Acura Integra
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
How to install strut bars. Strut tower bar installation. A strut bar, or tower bar, connects the top strut towers together, in order to increase the rigidity of a vehicle by allowing both strut towers to react to compression and tensile forces. A strut bar plays a larger role for MacPherson strut vehicles, however it can still be important in vehicles with double wishbones as well for compensating vertical forces. This particular installation is for a 1999 Acura Integra GS. Torque values will be car specific - look up your torque values for your car's strut flange nuts before installing.

Kid, you're a fine teacher and a fine engineer. I've learned a lot from you, and I'm grateful. Your father and mother must be very proud of you. My only suggestion would be that you follow the engineering and math with more knuckle scraping whenever it's practical, just like you did in this tower strut video. Thank you- and keep these videos coming!
Thanks, appreciate it! I hope to have more of these as the channel progresses.
Eventually I may do a playlist on bikes. It will likely be some time though!
Jason - you can find more info on the "about" tab of my channel.
They're coming! I'll have several in October.
I hope to, thanks!
hey engineered explained, is this your first "hands-on" video?? you're really beginning to move up man! from lectures to hands-on videos!! the ultimate combo!
Occasionally, yes. Works out nicely.
subscribed to you a while back, good to see that you're showing installs, man you deserve a better car (not that anythings wrong with you're teggie)
I haven't yet installed the catback - though I will eventually. I did not receive an ECU. The nitrous kit was for a Mustang, and my engine is in no shape for nitrous at this point anyways.
I've heard the same, though haven't seen anything to back it up. Doesn't make too much sense to me. I don't know about the fitment of the JDM Type R bar, but it'd likely be a good choice if it did fit.
Can you do more hands on stuff like this? I like learning by actually seeing the parts at work as well as on your board. Keep up the great work!
Check out my video "strut bars - explained."
A front strut bar for my civic I just put on gave me +10 horsepower and +8 handling points.

what she said :P
Its good to see you are putting some mods on that car!
It may just a have a bit of excess grip right now, and just grabs hard upon releasing the clutch. Or you may have adjusted to a very worn clutch and now the new one just grips harder, so it stalls now where as before it wouldn't. Not sure how long a proper break in is, but 120 miles is very low.
Awesome, may be my next car actually!
you thanked me by watching it, but it is me who's got to be thankful! :D u amazin dude.. simple explanations, simple teachin, showin how to do these things, just very good content! congrats and thx again
Not yet, I need to film it!
Well, I have a video replacing my distributor cap, and one replacing the thermostat. But yeah hopefully these type of videos will start to be a little more common.
Indeed!
No, check out my explanation video.
Yep, 99 with 120k, doing well!
Integra Type R (not my car) is a pretty decorated car. It's been named the best FWD chassis ever by EVO. The Integra GS (not quite as awesome) is still a fun car.
When car stands 'on wheels' there are force from springs and wole chassie weight. When you jack up car, the tension in suspention and towers disappears. Place a tensometer on strut bar and you will find out ;) You can also read some articles from Ultra Racing about struts and assembly operation. Offen some people have problems with strut bar install (with fixed lenght) when they try to put it on 'standing' car, without jacking it up (holes do not fit). But when they do it everything is fine.
There are both Honda and Acura badged Integras, depending on what market you're talking about. In Japan there are no Acura Integras.
Absolutely, though it will be a slow start.
From an engineering point of view, they do have a lot going for them. Very light, 50/50 weight distribution, RWD.
And what huge mistake is this? Elaborate as much as possible. The force transferred to the strut tower from a bump/cornering will exist regardless. Perhaps the towers flex in slightly with the weight of the car, but regardless it should be able to transfer the forces involved.
It's likely a C-pillar bar since your car's a hatch, and doesn't have a connection across the c-pillars.
Thanks, I was able to research this further, bacause you gave me the correct therm of the c-pillar bar.
Hey man I love your videos but just a heads up, when working on a car it's not left and right, it's driver and passenger, for orientation sake. Keep up the good work!
Or what happens?
You got it.
nice work man! keep it up!
Or else my car will fall apart? Plenty of the Honda ones have failed/fallen off. As long as they're torqued right shouldn't be a problem.

This is for an Acura Integra, as the title says. For this specific car, it is 36 lb-ft.
can you upload some more videos on project integra please
you probably have the best integra ever
Because it's something I'm not capable of measuring. I could put strain gauges on it and find out from there, but I don't have the equipment to do so. You're really not going to feel much difference.
Thank you for your videos
Clean b-series man ! :D
You seem quite educated in cars I wish I was as smart as you I am a fan of Acura I think they are pretty cool but I would I have to say my favorite car is the wrx
Is there any video in that you show your integra complete? PD: your videos rulz!!!
Check out my video "automatic vs manual"
Acura Integra (GS at least).
thx bro! appreciate the free education!
Could you please do an install video for the catback install? Much appreciated man
No, it's not like a sway bar.
I've always liked the idea of strutbars, But my main concern with the lower price ones aren't the bar themselves, but the mounting brackets. Sure the bar is strong, but the brackets are flimsy. I bought a CRX that came with one. Super cheap eBay stuff. Pretty flexy. My favorite thing about it, was it served as a prob handle for when I was working on the car.
I have an ME degree from NC State.
Silly question. If we are reducing the forces for each suspension surely this assumes the load can be transferred successfully. Surely the original design is not to transfer loads, i.e a rigid support transferring both forces and moments, therefore it should be able to withstand larger loads than originally designed for, so would it not make more sense to increase the bolt or support size of the Bar?
No, I can't feel a car bending. Proof would have to come from strain gauges.
Since I live in America, it's badged Acura.
Would the strut bar that is provided in the description fit in a 2008 chevy cobalt?
Is there any measurable adjustment to the bar itself? or do you just tighten nuts simply to hold it in place?
No an anti roll bar is underneath the car and is part of the suspenion. It prevents body roll in corners. A strut bar is basicly part of the chassis, it's a strengthening beam to stop deformation of the body while cornering. Take a cardboard box and put it on your desk. Pretend the box is a car, an anti roll bar stops the tilting of the box compared to the table, a strut bar stops the ability of each opposite wall of the box to move independently.
@ Engineering Explained. I plan on installing a front strut bar on my 1999 Acura Integra LS. From what I heard installing a front strut bar will crack my windshield overtime due to the force nature or something. Also, what brand strut bar do you recommend ? There is a lot of aftermarket brands but I am not sure. I would like to get the JDM Type R strut tower if that fits. Hope to hear from you. Thanks !
Nice :D Did you notice any improvment on your car?
hi, i just want to ask about the flange nut size, is it m10 or m8 x 1.25? thanks
It's for a Mustang.
For the front bar install, did you have to jack the car up? I heard its necessary because the front strut towers are angled. Plz lmk thxs.
Do you think you will be making more videos of installs and upgrades in the future?
Hmmm... Mixed metric and imperial measurements. Rear bar might reduce cargo space a tiny bit.
Do you have to install strut bars to the front and back? Because the front bar didn't seem to be a problem but the back one took up most of the trunk.
They are pretty flexy, but the pros are they are cheap, easy to obtain, and they do their job. Any bar is better than nothing at all.
Hmmm from what I gathered from your first comment it sounds like your clutch is slipping, I could be wrong. Could you make a video of it?
So a 93 del sol....mugen front anf rear tower bars will work on a 99 teggy? WhT about front and rear shocks? I have a set of skunk2 sports, i cant tell if they r coilivers ir not, iy deff looks like u cab adjust them tho but i dont have the tool....what about dc headers off of the motor, is a d16y1?
okay thanks anyway for all the help =)
Will removing the flange nuts put the struts out of alignment?
Is it an obligation to have both struts bars (front and back) or you can only have the front one?
Can you do a video on three link and 4 link suspension
No problem....I'd say get it checked out (Or check it yourself) for a clutch issue.
Most people I know don't torque lug nuts, let alone strut tower nuts. Just get it tight, or if you're that concerned with it, just google it.
honda integra are every where inn my town
Perhaps it's downshifting, if it's an auto.
Nice!
« Adjustable Preload A very common error when installing tower bars, It is always recommended to raise the vehicle when installing so that the load of the shock uppermounts on the shock towers is relieved and balanced out. When raised, and the tower bar is placed onto the vehicle, the preload can be adjusted and set. After it is bolted on and the car is lowered, each shock tower will have equal load and will prevent independent movements of each shock. This will provide an extremely noticeable difference after installing. If a tower bar is installed on a car that is not raised, great benefits will be missed.«
Do you torque them using the specs for strut bar or the coil overs torque spec?
Did you notice a difference with the strut bars installed?
Agreed
nice video :)
Hi, Ive got an EG5 and it came with 3 strut bars. 1 front, 1 rear and 1 mounted right behind the rear windows 20cm below the roof, connecting the sides. Ive removed it since I dont think it does anything at all. Any ideas why it was there to begin with ?
Can you do a walkaround of your integra?
What sizes are the bolts on the strut bar bought a strut bar but missing the bolts that keep the strut bar together
*I put a strut bar on my Dodge and it started strutting.* :3
I know this is an old video.. But did you load bars off camera?
If i would check it my self (if it's easy enough) you have any tips or videos on how to do that?
Hey! I tried to record it but it is really hard to record it becuase it's hard to hear and see, the best way to notice it is to feel it which is hard to get into a video :p But thanks for the replys anyway.
What attachment was used to remove the nuts ? My sockets don't fit over it and I don't have any kind of extension piece
im not sure if you are still doing the project integra but if you are i was wondering if you could do a video on sway bars, ive heard of sway bars and of strut bars but im not sure if there is a difference

Search my channel, I have videos on both. :)
What if u do the front and not the back will kt feel wierd?
No sadly, I know only a little bit about them.
And the statement "Honda Integra doesn't exist" is still incorrect...
Waiting on video of turbo install /popcorn
Great video nice and simple haha I just feel lime these multi piece strut bars/towers aren't worth the price. I'd pay a little more for a solid piece but then again THATS JUST MY OPINION haha
Yeah but not everyone reads the description or wherever you said that. So just making sure they knew. Wouldn't want an accident...
hi there:) i have a 1996 honda integra dc2 SIR. i im planning to buy a rear strut bar but is there like a particular tight for the bolts? thanks :)
Will this strut bar fit on a Scion FR-S?
