Thank you Jarett for this video it was exactly what I was looking for. In my opinion all 3d printed buildings must use concrete mixed with fibers but also be provided with a base seismic insulation system as the dumping rubber bearings. Even if new materials will be developed guaranteeing a higher tensile resistance I would still prefer to use an anti seismic system. Keep up the good work!

Thanks I need to learn more about anti seismic systems and construction in seismic zones that’s something a lot of people bring up.

Thanks, really interesting video! I was looking into 3D printed houses a while back. They have a huge potential for rebuilding villages or cities which will become important in the future. I also imagine they could be used to bring back a more ornate and beautiful architecture compared to the modern style. It could even produce "photocopies" of classical architecture.

Will that work in high clay content soil such as Texas?

Industrial engineer working as tooling designer for 5+ years here, why do you print in straight angels? Radius will do you wonders. Also, why are you using so much volume when printing? Thanks! Respect for your efforts!

Would it be cheaper to have your house partitions and walls made of 3D printed concrete than regular brick works?

That’s the goal, the printer is a big fixed cost though so it takes many units to realize economies of scale that will bring the price down.

Question, will prestressed Precast Concrete ever be replaced with 3d Printing? For example Aashto Griders Beams, etc etc?

  • @automateconstruction

That doesn’t seem particularly likely in the short term unless there is some serious development in the materials sector

All those methods slightly improve the concrete tension resistence. But will be never enough for seismic areas. Ever ever.

For truly crack preventing reinforcement the cables or fibers need to be in tension while the concrete is curing

@@automateconstruction so a fiber/reinforcement that slightly shrinks as it cures or cools down? Is that correct?
