Structural Analysis using ETABS - Fundamentals

Ғылым және технология

In this tutorial, we learn how to use ETABS, a structural analysis and building design software package. ETABS has a lot to offer, so this video focuses on learning the basics of how to define a model, apply loads and load combinations, and interpret the analysis results.
We first define material and section properties. Then we draw the two-dimensional truss model. Finally, we place point and distributed loads and analyze the deflections, reactions, and axial force and moment diagrams.

Retired civil engineer here who used to run STRUDL on punchcards with overnight turnaround. Lord how times have changed! My day was often spent with my hand-held HP calculator, calc pad, and code book doing structural analysis and design by hand, and so now I wonder how much engineers just plug and chug without as much understanding. On the other hand, the visuals do help with the comprehension of structural behavior, and the computers do reduce the risk of calculation error. What fantastic software. And Dear Prof H, I'm watching all of your videos. I was trained as a structural engineer, however I detoured into the oil and gas industry. But structures were my first love. Your videos are the best on KZread, and are refreshing my memory and bringing back lost skills, even though I don't need them any longer. So satisfying. It's disappointing that this type of software is so expensive, however, making it unaffordable for folks like me who can use and appreciate it, but who no longer work for firms that subscribe to it.
