Stroke survivor: How I conquered paralysis and reclaimed my life.

I entered a coma at 20 years old, woke up at 21 completely paralyzed on the left side of my body. This rare phenomenon nearly killed me and completely shifted my existence and perspective, but I'm stoked on life more now than ever.

Thank you so much for your kind words , it means a lot. I go into deep detail in my book if you’d like to check it out, I wrote it to help people facing similar challenges navigate through the rough waters of recovery. I hope your dad would benefit greatly from it ,and enjoy it. I’m still working on the audio version, but hardcopy is available now 🙏 👇 Taken By Surprise: A Declaration of Perseverance a.co/d/gvUQfUd

I suffered a stroke 6 years ago. Mine was right side paralyses with dysathera. My aortic valve was also replaced (long story). I'm walking now but still can't use my lower right arm. Thanks to the tone in my right hand I can lift machine assisted weights but I can't lift much. The hardest thing is the dysathera. I like to interact with people, but talking is so hard. It takes a toll on my mental health. Thank god I have good support group. You said you have to put in the work. Is 5 to 6 days a week in the gym about right, too much or too little? I typically 1 hour of cardio and 1 hour of weights and stretching, The cardio helps me speak better. I'm hell bent on getting better... Thanks for starting a youtube channel. It gives me hope... I will buy your bookI

Yeah, I would say you are on the right track and keep up your training regimen! Cardio and weightlifting are very important for different reasons. Listen to your body and always train instinctively. That’s at least what I’ve done and it has helped me tremendously. I also have a very high protein diet to help rebuild any muscle atrophy and weakened tissue. Keep up the good fight.💪

You are an inspiration to everyone that has suffered a stroke because you didn't give up which can be very easy to do. I recently came across a YT channel called rehab HQ. Tara Tobias is a neurologic Physical Therapy Specialist in Orlando. She has many videos showing different exercises for all areas affected by stroke, from a neurological perspective. I would have loved to find her 8 years ago when I had a stroke.

Do not give up. I have a relative who had a stroke years ago. I knew that hospital food is garbage, so I took it upon myself to take her organic fruits and veggies, fatty wild fish and sea food, and high protein foods. I brought in magnesium and a natural vitamin C. I made to take her outside so she could get vitamin D. She got better quickly, and at that time she did not get physical therapy. I think a healthy, low sugar and carb diet is the key to healing. The body does not heal with proper nutrition. Don’t give up. Find relatives and friends that will help you. You will heal!

So glad to hear you were doing well. I will upload a video, showing specific arm exercises, however, regarding combating the tone/upward flex towards your chest w/ your left arm… Try to train your tricep as well as possible. That will help combat that upward tone motion. I had the exact same problem with my left arm, and was able to completely reverse it with consistent training and new creative training ideas. Keep up the good work💪
