Stripping Camper Van Interior Lining for DIY Camper Conversion | Off-Grid Transit Camper Build | 004
In this episode, I remove the lining of the rear of my Transit Minibus van camper conversion project.
Here's what I used in this video:
Macallister Impact gun: ebay.us/HRCEDK
Impact socket set: ebay.us/hkWZRK
Having removed all of the seats from my Minibus, I now needed to remove the lining from the sides and roof. I am going to insulate the voids in the sides and roof of the van. These are just left empty by the manufacturer. Besides they were covered with a dark grey carpet style fabric, which was pretty dirty from years of use.
The lining was pretty easy to remove. Most of it was held on by self-tapping screws, with some strong glue here and there. Where the carpet wasn’t stuck to plywood sheets, it was stuck directly to the van from, in places like around the doors.
The biggest problem was spotting the screws, as they were hidden among the fibres of the carpet, but with a little investigation, I found most of them. But the odd one or two were just pulled through the wood.
When I stripped the carpet off the panels, I could see that they were in pretty good condition. I am going to give them a sand and paint so that I can reuse most of them. These boards are only going to be the backing behind cupboards and things, so I am not too worried about them looking perfect.
Behind the panelling it was a bit grubby, so I got the cleaning technician in and she did a great job of getting it all sparkling!
