Stringer of Big Trout from the Lake Tahoe Shore (NV)

I was looking to see if I could produce nice fish in shallower and a great day emerged during my mission.

Right on. I get out a lot so I run into a lot of my viewers. We could certainly cross paths at some point. Sat hello when you see me. The early and heavy Winter weather this year has kept me off of Tahoe this cold season so far but I plan to hit it hard as soon as more of the snow clears. I just don't want to deal with the parking, snow, and ice trying to get to the water's edge. I'll be beefing up my Tahoe playlist soon. Glad you enjoy the content.

As long as the water is really cold, it seems like all you need is at least 10 feet of water with rocks near by which puts a lot of the lake in play. I hope to explore that pattern more this winter. Hope you get to give it a shot.

The first one I got off those sketchy rocks was a full inflated crawler. The two big ones I got on that rocky point at the edge of the big beach came on one of each. One hit the powerbait and then less than ten minutes later I hit the other one on my full inflated crawler. I have come to the conclusion that if I can find at least 10 feet of water with rocks close by I have a good shot. At least during the colder months.

Nearly every large trout I have hit in Tahoe was loaded with crawfish. Some minnows. I figured, follow the food! The rocks seem to be a great hunting ground for that type of food.

I use as little as possible to cover the hook with a little round ball. I have no proof but I believe the larger trout are less hesitant to hit it when it's small. When I am drift fishing in my boat with a slip sinker and long leader I sometimes form it into different shapes to get it to move different ways as the boat drifts. .

I fish with my cousin and a friend from high school occasionally but for the most part, I have hundreds of videos across my channel playlists where it's just me screaming into the camera and talking to my viewers! I have a lot of content within 2 hours of Reno across my channel playlists. It might be worth it for you to get a California non-resident license if you fish a lot. My fishing tips playlist has clips for a lot of the things I do. The clip showing my basic set up for bait fishing is straight forward but fishing things like 1/8 OZ jigs in rivers simply require a lot of practice. Go on out there and give it a shot. Good luck.

If you climb out and fish those giant boulders on the shore you'll see that there aren't a lot of options on where you can put your rods. In some of the clips for Tahoe I build rock towers on giant boulders and then secure my rod holders in there and in one clip on my fishing tips playlist I show you how I wedge my rod holders in cracks. 2nd rod in Nevada is part of the general regulation. The non resident license for the year isn't too much. Just check the Nevada Fish anbd Wildlife site. If you fish 3 or 4 times it's worth it. I have a few destinations in Nevada across my channel playlists. It is my understanding that on Lake Tahoe either state license is good on the lake but I always recommend confirming regulations for yourself!

I always count down from the time my weight hits the water until it rests on the bottom so I have an idea of how deep I am running into fish casting from shore. I always use small 5' Ugly Styks to make the fight more of a battle. In almost all of my clips across my channel playlists I use 6lb mono but for lake Tahoe specifically I use 8lb mono, to deal with the boulders, with 6lb leaders. I have clips on my fishing tips playlist that show my general set up but for Tahoe I up the slip sinker to 1/2 OZ and shorten the leaders as needed to cast farther. I use a tiny size 18 treble hook for my powerbait and usually a size 6 baitholder hook for my full inflated crawler. I up that to a size 4 baitholder hook if the crawlers are really big. Hope that helps.

The only Reason I do to 8lb test with a 6lb leader in Tahoe is because I got burned early on with having a big trout shredding my 6lb test and breaking it as I tried to work the fish from the depths over the shallower set of boulders. My 8lb is visibly worn after a couple of large fish but it typically doesn't break. The boulders near shore are a major issue when fighting larger trout!

As far as reels go, I stick with spinning reels that cost $20-$30 because I need to have 2 reels for 8lb mono for Tahoe to deal with the boulders (6lb leader) and reels with 6lb mono for rivers, most reservoirs, and Alpine lakes. I typically don't invest in expensive tackle because I have always found it more important to use my resources to go on trips rather than have nice stuff sitting in the closet. That's been true since I've had my channel the past couple years and for the decades before I've had this channel.
