I recently got in touch again with a friend I hadn't seen in over 10 years (we live on different continents now) What did we use to play a ton of together ? Streets of rage 2. We suddenly got in touch with each other just a few days ago, I sent him the trailer for this game and the memories were giving us both goosebumps. We both bought it on PS4, it felt like having my friend sitting next to me playing with me like we used to do when we were teenagers. Best $22 dollars I've ever spent.

Where did you find Streets Of Rage 4, my brother can't find it no where. Not at Walmart and not at Gamestop. Gamestop told my brother, the game is digital. This game supossed to be for the PS4.

Except that Road Rash is an EA franchise, which means if they ever did decide to make another one, each of the bikes would be microtransactions and I bet you'd have to pay real money for repairs or getting busted by the cops, too.

Yeah, Sega's been on a roll with these retro revivals. I would love to see Vectorman, Ristar and Golden Axe to someday get this incredible treatment.

This is what I expected the new battletoads to look like, this not only looks like the original but has a fresh new style without abandoning the gameplay that made it so good.

Only me seeing that the gameplay is tottally different? It plays nothing like SOR2,3 and it shows! Frustrating combat with a huge emphasis on juggles. Where have you seen this in sor games? SOR REMAKE remains the best SOR game EVER still

The game's reception has been pretty solid, and that makes me really glad, myself being a long time fan of Streets Of Rage 2. I will definitely buy it when it releases tomorrow. It seems like a perfect fit for the Switch.

I still play Streets of rage 2 every now and then thanks to the sega emulator on steam. I got the game for 1 buck and I play online with a friend of the old times while using skype to talk. It's still as good as I remember. I am really curious about this new one.

@Tig Bitties It seems to be getting some nice hype, and it released during what's basically the best time possible for something like this. People are spending more time at home, people who may not have been playing games since the 16 bit era. They boot up their kid's console or whatever, see this game, and go "Oh, I remember Streets of Rage. Let me try this new one!"

Lizard cube also have taken the time to put in some of the classic quick input moves that can save your ass if you know when & are quick enough to pull them off(the game doesn't tell you this), for example if you are thrown by a enemy(eg the y & p signal enemies),if you quickly press & hold the normal attack button, jump button & up @ the same time, you will land on your feet & not take damage(brought the game & tried it out last night). This has been a hidden command since SOR 2.

You just need to press the jump button a the moment your about to hit the ground. You can also catch projectiles with the throw button.

I think a dodge/roll would break the games difficulty.

Brings back memories of playing streets of rage 2 as a kid. I remember being jealous of street fighter on snes and streets of rage made up for that on Genesis. Pretty neat to have a new game of this style come out today. Sega should release a new Genesis console for remastered or reimagined versions of the sega library of games. Nothing to compete with today's console or next gen but just powerful enough to do better versions of their old games. Sure to be a niche market for that . I'd buy it.

I had absolutely no intention to buy this. Never even paid attention during development. After so many older games got " remade " or updated ended up sucking, it just never got my attention. But after this and the DF review. I'm sold. 100% buying this tomorrow. The gameplay looks perfect and the animations and graphics look like they actually got a ton of attention. Love it

I would love these guys to remake Golden Axe or at least give us the amazing Golden Axe 2: The Revenge of Death Adder that never left the Arcades for some reason.

It’s the best best em up since Castle Crashers and a faithful recreation of an awesome 90s franchise. I hope these devs continue recreating old sets games. They did an awesome job of re making wonderboy 3 and now streets of rage. Maybe Golden Axe can be next.

He b*tched about the 'brutal difficulty' for like half of the review lmao. For the record I HATE difficult games (I could never play Fromsoftware titles or Nioh etc.). I don't think they're bad. I can admire them, but I can't enjoy playing them. But SOR4 really isn't hard at all lmao. Your first run may be a bit tougher because there are a lot of new enemy types and a handful of new mechanics that you really have to get used to compared to previous entries. But after my first run I understood the enemy patterns and levels far better, and on my 2nd run and on I kicked ass. It's always fair and honestly pulling off massive combos after dodging a boss's attack is incredibly satisfying to do. Steam is absolutely flooded with salty wimps who play it for

@@Msf1011 same on those From Software games. I suck at them but its not for a lack of trying. Lol. Once you get into the rythem on any SoR game they're not impossible. I'm playing through the first one right now and so far the hardest time I've had was fighting the twin bosses. But I had forgotten how the beat them. Go after the kicker first, dodging the kicks. If you're interested at least. Anyway those that are having the hardest time are just giving up too quick probably. At least stick to it so you can say you tried like i did with those damn Souls games. Lol.

@@ModeSOLOgaming Yup exactly! Thanks for the SOR1 tip btw, I also tend to make heavy use of back attacks to ward off the twin who always tries to grab and throw you. Also same here on the Fromsoft games! I actually did try to play these games for numerous hours before giving up, not 30 mins lmao. Yeah their difficulty curve is just way too major. To be fair I didn't even do THAT bad on Dark Souls 1, but as soon as I got cursed by those frog thingies whilst being unable to find that old woman to undo the curse I just gave up lol.

I just wish the game had multiple paths like SOR 3. Would've added way more replayability.

I just had 2 new ideas for SOR5- 1 for gameplay, 1 for Story. The gameplay idea: Many players are in a dispute: Was SOR better without run & roll or WITH run & roll? Most say Run & roll should`ve been in SOR4 to add more dodging ability but some say its about skill & using what you have. Personally I side with the ones who say run & roll should be there, but to keep things neutral and avoid giving players a Spammable OP attack, the dash should be given to all characters & give the roll too, not just Adam & Shiva, but the blitz cannot be upgraded. This will help players maneuver out of tight spots & extend their reach when enemies will come from both sides, giving them more options than just using defensive special. I`m sure many others also got this idea in their heads. 2nd, for extending Shiva`s story a bit & to return him to the antagonist role for a while. Simple- Shiva has a young brother who got kidnapped by Y syndicate & now Shiva has to work for them in return of his safety (Yea yea I know it sounds very cliché but it can work for giving characters a bit more.... character.) So, you will meet Shiva 1st on the 4th level, the rooftops (Yes that's my idea for 4th level) and he will jump down from a rooftop on the one you`re standing on. With a expressionless, serious face, he will alter his stance to the ``Kokutsu dachi`` and do the ``beckoning palm`` sign towards you, challenging you without speaking a single word, while a remix of his SOR2 battle theme will start playing. Don`t worry, he will be easy enough for players to *not chuck* their controllers towards the nearest wall. Then, Axel will ask him ``Shiva! Why are you doing this!? You said you changed your path! WHY?!`` and Shiva will reply ``Next time we meet, brother, I won`t hold back. Be prepared`` and bow while holding his fist with his other hand, then jump down the rooftop & disappear (oooooooooo myyyysteeeeeeerious, LOL) Then in 8th stage, Chinatown revisited, you will meet him at his dojo. There, Axel will challenge Shiva to fight & the epic fight will ensue, with a more sinister version of his SOR4 fight theme playing. This time, he will be juuuuuuuuuuuuust abiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit easier than his SOR2 version, just a tiiiiiiiiiiiiiny bit. After the fight, Shiva will be helpless at this point and now the only option he has is answering. Now, he will tell ``They... t-they have... abducted my.... Brother....`` Then, Axel & Gang will offer him to join them in the fight, he will tell that he can`t but then Cherry & Max will come while holding a dude of the syndicate- The guy who was keeping eye on Shiva`s activity, and seeing that, he will accept the offer & shake hands with Axel, thus unlocking him as a playable character (Yay no pay for DLC to unlock badass karate dude in this idea!) (OK no I`m starting to feel that this is turning into a kinda complex story but eh u guys can tell me your opinions on this) Oh, also I like the way special attacks work very good the way they work in SOR4, they gave you a way to regain health but for that you have to master the game. Easy to use, hard to master... perfectly suitable for a beat em up`s fighting style

It was such an enjoyable game and the return of SOR done right. I have done my best to get the platinum trophy and had a blast. An entertaining game for sure !

SOR4 is a template retro remakes should pay attention to. One thing I wish they did though is that you got see a cleaned up version of previous SOR characters or play retro look (only retro look is available). The characters look so terrible compared to the modern graphics. I also kind of wished they did some sort of ability chart where you can level up characters and get new abilities.

I don't think that anyone needs 8 hours for the first playthrough, maybe four if you really have to repeat a few stages, bonuses help to make it easier if you really struggle.

I am only dissapointed because there is no double tap to evade, no default "run" for all the characters and don't forget about the "OK" bar in SoR 3, this new life system is ok but I think it could have both. But the new additions are nice and the overall package is amazing.

ok so where is the golden axe revival?

Felt like SEGA might have owed us this after that 'cease and desist' against BomberGames for their SOR Remake that we SOR fans have nursed on hoping that SEGA would come through one day after 10+ years. I love this game, and I hope they keep adding to it, via DLC characters (SOR4 Shiva is a beast!) and gameplay updates. Would love to see updates on the 'supers' that characters can do, whether it be news ones, or upgrades to them If there's anything I'm critical about is that I miss being able to run, just like we were able to in SOR3, kinda helps to keep up with fast enemies, and to execute better timing on the 'blitz attacks'. Not a big fan of the 'special attack' mechanic that forces you to combo your health back, because cheap enemies can easily punish you, especially if there's a huge crowd of them. I am looking forward to the future of this game! I hope the developers continue working on this one!

Bloody perfect, apart from Balzes voice. Not sure why they gave her Japanese Anime voice of a 12 year old, when I'm pretty sure she's and American in her 40's 🤷 but other than that it's 👌

The only thing i hated in the game is that they lost the opportunity to bring back Ash as the Ship Stage boss.

In my humble opinion i think they could've given Streets Of Rage 4 a more modern look than this Cel Shaded version & though its a 2D Side Scroller from the day's when those types of game's were kings i feel this was a missed opportunity to deliver a Streets Of Rage but with with graphics akin to the Mortal Kombat game's that kept graphically evolving & updating its graphics as each game was released... Its great to see a nice slice of retro side scrolling as it was the 16Bit console's that really started the craze for everyone to own those video games console's... Sure the 8Bit NES & Master System was the first one's that really started to show that these console's were in more demand than previous attempts at console's & though we eventually saw 32Bit consoles like Amiga CD32, it was the Master System back in the mid 80s & then Sega Genesis aka Mega Drive & the NES & SNES (especially the 2 latter 16Bit) console's that are the 2 that really saw what was once seen as a niche market for kids was now seeing more adults buying them & they had just as much female gaming fan's as there were male & even many women in their 20 onwards didn't feel shy anymore about buying a 16Bit console for themselves & so began the mighty rise of the giant Game's Industry that was built on the back of console sales of each console that sold all the way through to each new console & larger processing size & look... Obviously it took many year's & various console's released since those 16Bit consoles but the fact is that they started the ball rolling so that every home had to have one or the other or both console's & it showed that it didnt matter about your age or gender as both male & female along with older gamer's buying them showed that this was something was going to continue moving forward & back in the 16Bit era it was now expected to own & have a game's console in every household... I'll admit i'll buy this at somepoint as the games developer of this title knew that this would have a special place in the hearts for older gamer's who played in the Arcades & then went on to buy each new next gen console there after & played the original Streets Of Rage 1/2 & 3... There were some truly great & funny side scrollers & the obvious leaders became Mario & Sonic but we had so much fun with other 16Bit Game's like Cool Spot/Aladdin/Vector/James Pond/MK1/2 up til MK3 & the ultra versions/Ecco The Dolphin/Streets Of Rage 1/2 & 3/Robocop Vs Terminator/Bogger Man/Mario/Sonic & so many more... Up to the Xbox 360 & PS3 it was brilliant to still play console game's until.the farce that has been the Xbox One & PS4 as no longer could gamer's just plug in & play & those consoles feel more like Pc hybrid console's & thiugj theres been some great releases on both console's the sad fact that those 2 console's will be remembered for game's being released that weren't properly tested & finished to the highest playing ability that could be delivered, thenn there's the many many DLCs/Loot Boxes & game's that are still getting constant ongoing update patches yesrs after its original release which tells you that game's developers know they are releasing game's in a mess but their fall back default reply is we willll fix it with update patches but shouldnt theu have had this fixed & working fine from the start!.. Well at least i've had decades of fun console gaming & happy memories from those older console's but the way today's console games are released now & the mess many can be in on launch has made me stop at the Xbox One & PS4 & i hope games developer's stsrt to do something about the way games are released as the evidence has prov many werent ready to be released... May gamers have many more decades of gaming fun but make sure this current trend of games released in poor playing conditions doesnt become the new norm as its for that very reason im stopping & i hope you make your voices & complaints are heard by these games developer's or its just going to continue & get worse... In light of this still ongoing coronavirus outbreak stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world... .....

The only modern feel streets of rage 4 has. Is the fact it came out in 2020. The game plays Like a classic beat am up and looks like a classic beat am up and thats what makes this game GREAT and it definitely deserves a place in modern gameing.

If the executives back at Capcom aren't taking Final Fight 4 seriously, they should. Final Fight 2 and 3 where direct rivals to Streets of Rage 2 and 3 respectfully back in the 16-bit era, if Capcom dose Final Fight 4 means they are not only just honoring the rivalry but they need to make it feel like your back at the arcades again.

Given the simplicity of the overall design of the game, I feel like it should run at about 7,000,000,000 FPS. * Comedy aside, I think I'm gonna get this today. I _loved_ the old games.

Yes

I beat this in 2 and a half hours on my first play, normal mode. Doing a hard mode later, I still prefer the originals but this is fun.

The difficulty is nice. Not too easy, unlike BK3 and not too hard, unlike SOR3.
