This game is simply fantastic. Took me back 30 years..roll on streets of rage 5.

I was expecting a horrible reboot this past year watching all of the footage of SOR4 but boy was I wrong. This is the best Streets of Rage game I have ever experienced and I love everything about it. Seeing how it was the first actual Genesis game I had purchased for Christmas a long time ago, this fourth installment definitely lives up to the SOR name and then some. If you are a SOR fan at all, don't miss out on this masterpiece, it is so AWESOME!!! 10/10

I just wish I could afford buying it on switch so I can play it when I'm not home. Oh well... guess I'll have to be patient until I get back to my PS4. I also want a bluetooth genesis controller to use with this game, but again, I can't really afford one. Thanks, covid19, I hate you.

I 100% agree! 10/10. Playing the hell out of it! Finished the story mode in Normal and Hard difficulty. This game is absolutely 💯 According to me the best of the series

Comix Zone looked amazing, and was a great twist on the beat-em-up but it wasn't that much fun to play, in my opinion.

@@superspecky4eyes when you consider the limited lives and the difficulty I can see it being more stressful than fun but my first experience with the game was the Sega collection so with the save features I never experienced the brutal nature of the game in all it's glory, that being said I'd recommend trying it out again on the collection and see if you still feel the same.

They nailed the FEEL of the game. Who’s old enough to appreciate a sequel to this game can understand what they did and why. IGN’s review could not have missed the mark more than it did and yours hit it like a full chicken found in a garbage can.

Morse Code Stutters yes but you still get them enemies that venture past the screen and hang out there until you bait them.

So I've listened to every SoR4 review and having now completed it twice I can safely say this is the best Review I've come across! Excellent!

This review is simply fantastic. The dedicated segment to talk about the music is PERFECT, thank you for focusing on the tunes! The bridging of old and new by Koshiro and the great modern work from Deriviere is excellent and I'm so glad you dive into this, no other review I've seen has made the effort to sink into this. I too was a SoR fanatic back in the 90's as a Genesis kid and this review exactly what I needed. Cheers!

Great review and a proper nostalgia trip. I remember queuing up at the local swimming baths, 10p pieces jangling in my shell-suit pocket, waiting to have a go of Streets of Rage :-)

@@NickHunter Quite challenging for sure. I'm 32 years old and I wasn't liking that much when I started playing (old man's nitpicking), but now I'm pretty fond of it. Absolutely great game!

As others have rightly pointed out thanks for giving the soundtrack a bit of time. Audio is so often overlooked in reviews. My favourite in this one is the DJ K-Washi track, proper dirty techno. Reminds me of Stage 7 in SOR2

We kind of had that with Dragon's Crown. Gives me a very similar vibe, you might like it.

This is the best review of this game on KZread. SOF4 for me is best game from some time. Just pure gameplay and fun. Music is also great. 10/10.

I'm so glad you explained why having the art style the way it is was a good choice. I don't hate pixel art but I love that art style and I'm glad they went with it.

Aww the good old days of my childhood hood playing streets of rage 2 some sounds are the same and some characters do same moves but look a lot different I love this game

Max is playable, you just have to unlock him. You can also unlock the other SOR2 and 3 characters.

I finished it 6 hours ago! Amazing game but it was too short!I played 1 2 and 3 on my first pc in 1998 when i was 11 years old and i liked them so much that i played them many times. I hope they make street of rage 5 soon and make it much bigger!

I think they did justice to SOR4 and I absolutely love it. But I am an greedy Maffaka, hope they do more stuff with future updates.

So now we can get double dragon, battle toads and ninja turtle remakes right?

Glad we finally got the sixth Streets of Rage game. After Fighting Force on the PS1, which was conceived as a SoR game until Sega realized it was cross platform, and Double Dragon Neon, which totally played more like SoR then DD.

Love the game, got the switch version rather than the ps4 version. My only complain is... its too short :(.. would have loved a dozen more levels.

Amazing game Streets of Rage 4 is! Kick ass!!

It's why I'm not buying the game. Looks like a flash game. I'll do SoR Remake instead. Look up Huntsman for a proper way to do pixel-style gameplay in 2020.

@@malchir4036 I play using one of the retro pixel options: it's perfect and looks much better than the hand drawn art. This is also (I've finished it on hard, and am halfway through on mania): easily the best SoR, ergo: the best the genre's ever seen. It's comfortably set a new benchmark. So you're missing out (shrugs).

Cyance you can alter the entire look of the game to be retro in the video settings. You can also change the audio to retro too

I JUST REALIZED THAT ADAMS GRAND UPPER IS LITERALLY THE TIGER DROP FROM YAKUZA 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Next game - 1.guilty gear xxx 3rd graphics engine 2.full 3D movement..characters only face 4 directions... 3.bigger levels ..that allow characters go a bit deeper into the background..Or maybe just full 3D with the 2d ish fixed camera angle.. 4.more features in gameplay ..blocking/evading..more interacting with surroundings 5.big customization and an engine that custom creates enemy looks..l 6.deep ,fleshed out story 7.stop penalizing the big character by making him Incredibly slow .

It is a great addition to the series for sure. Personally I would have liked some branching paths but a skill system would have been a bit too far from the sor formulae. Playable Sor4 Shiva / estel / max / roo must happen or I will.... Well do absolutely nothing. I still want it though.

Awesome review. One thing no one has mentioned; it looks like Estel is Axel’s illegitimate daughter. Has anyone else picked up on that?

Retro game without pixelated graphics, thank God! Hint to all indie developers, pixelated graphic is a not a graphical style, it’s a technical limitation back then. Not only that, retro game graphic doesn’t really look pixelated back then on CRT display.

Im 14 and when i was 10 year’s old i would play through all of the SOR,s and man now this release looks great i already beat the story and it felt great ... I won’t give any spoilers but the story is great. I WANT ROO THOUGH! 🦘 😭. They also should add none pixelated versions of all the characters but obviously keep the non pixelated ones too. I would love to see an 8 bit option for the story.

When I first saw the trailer I instantly loved it, I really dig the new artstyle. I think it fits Sor perfectly. The characters look amazing. So graphics weren't a problem for me. While people were concerned about it, I was more concerned about the music back then. But I like it in general except for the fact that they should have kept a specific boss OST. I listened to one of them and they were so lame it was almost a blasphemy for the franchise. It didn't feel like a boss OST, you didn't feel hyped up like in Sor 1 and 2 where as soon as you hear the boss OST even before you see him/her you already hyped.

Fun tip, with the SOR3 characters, double tap up on the d pad, or your stick and you can do a vertical slide. This shit has come in handy against those bitches that do that jump kick.

This isn't a stripped down combat system. It's simple and enjoyable. Not everything needs to be a combination of dork souls, rpg skill trees and an open world. In fact a lot of people are sick of those tropes, including me. I want to enjoy a game without worrying about what I might miss or what's the best skill combination or struggling through it to the point where it's more "tough but fair", "challenging and satisfying" (translation: bull$h!t and frustrating to anyone other than basement dwellers) than it is fun. This is a great game that shakes up things and gives us a much needed reprieve from the same boring, monetized cr@p that the industry has been vomiting in the last 10 years.

@@Hynotama Dark Souls is not my favorite game, but if you think it's diffuculty is "BS" then its clear to me that you are just bad at it. Also, Streets of Rage 4 is an amazing game, but its combat system is definitlely "stripped down" when they removed many of the mobility improvements from SoR3. 4 has its additions and nuances that make it a great game despite this.

The games control responds perfectly. Combos are fun and I really had a blast with Adam. I just hate the music, not so streets of rage-ish.

What if i don't have a powerful enough system... i played them all in the genesis even a beta version on cartdrige of sor4, it seems i gotta wait to enhance my pc, i hope it gives a challenge i bear sor2 mania no continues ans 10 lifes left... sor3 was too easy in very hard, i hope this is challenging in the hardest difficulties and user friendly in the easier for the newcomers on this piece of art

But the filter is an after-effect, it won't run at a higher frame rate with it activated... Regarding the difficulty: GG for being a monster at SoR! I think the Mania challenge is pretty much the same as SoR2. But since stun-locking isn't infinite anymore and it has new enemies, bosses and obstacles (as well as some challenging rooms), you'll need to figure out the strategy to deal with them, so it might provide a challenge to you till you figure them out. As for the easier difficulties: as always they feature less enemies, with less heath and dealing less damage. It still provides a good challenge. At least the story mode resets lives after every stage, so you can practice if you're having trouble with a particular stage. Arcade mode, on the other hand, is the regular SoR, but without continues. Also since it now features online leaderboards, you might replay levels to improve your score.

i kinda dont want sor4 to do all that well, just well enough to warrant more of the same. i'd hate sega to see the success and decide to turn sor5 into a yakuza clone. dont get me wrong i love yakuza, 0 is one of my favorite games of this generation but if we are to get another sor id rather it was more of this.

Being a vegetarian myself; I was ecstatic about the ability to change chicken (dead flesh) in to salad!!! 😄👍

Max is not the fastest, Skate and Cherry are. And try using the sprites, Axel’s SOR1 and Shiva’s SOR3 sprite hit like trucks.
