Street Photography with the Fujifilm X-T5 + Macro Lens in Chinatown!

Ғылым және технология

Follow along as I walk through my regular street photography route in Chinatown with ‪@JulianFok‬ with the brand new Fujifilm X-T5 and XF30mm f/2.8 R LM WR Macro. Wait? A macro lens for street photography? With a 45mm equivalent field-of-view, I think it's perfect as an everyday lens and a street photography lens. I grew up shooting with my father's Minolta XG-1 with the 45mm MD-Rokkor, and I love the M-Rokkor 40mm on my Leica M-mount cameras. Watch me as I walk through the streets of Chinatown Vancouver as I test the new X-T5 and XF30mm lens. Wait for my full review soon, and check out my separate articles on Fujilove on both the X-T5 and XF30mm:

    Good point about the OIS. I love using the X-Pro3, but I find it frustrating that I can't have any deep focus at night because I need as much light as I can. Also: the XF 50mm f2 looks beautiful! It's a bit smaller still than the XF 30mm f2.8 though, but I think that makes a big difference (not that I think the 30 is ugly, just not as great looking as the 50).

    Great street vid...really enjoyed your style. You make an excellent point about getting known around the area which takes away the feeling of sticking out as a photographer. You can relax and work with most of the people just accepting you. I got the 30mm with the X-T5 and it is an excellent all round lens. Agree with your views about the macro but as an occasional macro (especially for inaninmate subjects) it is nice to have

    I agree with the ugly lens assessment - when I unboxed mine I thought “oh dear…” But once I started using it I was blown away. It’s marketed as a Macro but I think that’s wrong, it’s more of a tack sharp highly versatile general purpose lens with closeup / macro capabilities. It’s replaced my XF 27 WR and I’m liking it so much my X100V is getting dusty - and that’s saying something.

    I felt your pain with the ladies with the red jackets…haha! Also I like the 50mm f2 and the look of the 30 doesn’t bother me at all. I really need to visit your Chinatown. Great video!

    I think maybe I was being a bit harsh when I called it ugly. It’s a weird shape, but I like weird. the looks of the lens wouldn’t keep me from buying it :-). As for the red jacket ladies… ugh…. Thanks for watching!!

    My general purpose Fuji APSC lens is the 27mm f2.8. It's a much smaller lens. I think the 30mm is probably good for a macro lens. 27mm is better for street.

    The 27mm is a great lens, but the size of the 30mm is negligible for basically any application.

    however the 30mm is good for street and macro. The 27mm can not do macro.

    Was leaning towards the 50/2 with my Fuji 11 macro ring until I just saw your video. These colors are so thick. The entire frame and depth. Is that a result of the XT5 sensor or the 30mm macro? Love the 50/2 but would love the macro included in the 30mm.

    I agree that the way to look at this lens is a street lens that can also do macro- no Mfd. like you said they should’ve made it a 1:2 and shorter. Sort of like the canon RF 35 macro

    X-t5, x-h2 & X-h2s. Fuji did a great job. Offering a very nice product range. (ok maybe they should have given the X-t5 the same 5 million dot viewfinder 😂).

    Great video as always! How do you feel the 30mm f/2.8 compares to the pancake 27mm f/2.8? The 27 is definitely a smaller package. I find f/2.8 works best outdoors for me and life is easier for me with faster glass indoors.

  • @bigheadtaco

    @bigheadtaco

    optically the 30mm f/2.8 is a much better lens, sharper, more micro contrast, more even sharpness, etc. The only thing going for the 27mm for me is the compact size and weight, which for many is priority over anything else.

    thats just crazy to see a full zoom H recorder on the camera haha 0:13 - nice video on Julian the lens looks really appealing as well, a lot of nice photos shown in the video forgot to ask for the xt5 and the 40mp, is it a bad thing to set a lower mp in the settings or thats not possible? its such a hard decision cause before seeing the possible idea of a 30mm macro, i thought the 85mm would be a nice hybrid macro and portrait lens. then this 30mm gives a different style of macro and nice hybrid for general photography as well while also being cheaper too.

    You can set a lower JPEG resolution, but the RAW will be full 40MP resolution. It would be cool if Fujifilm can create a similar technology to what Leica did with it’s triple resolution Leica M11.

    Some pretty good shots in there - lots of contrast and colour. The thirty doesn’t disappoint either - like most “macro” lenses, it’s still sharp as a tack for general photography.

    Fun video. Gotta disagree with the comment about screens, though...SOME stills photographers, like you, prefer tilt screens ... BUT other stills photographers prefer fully articulating screens. Better yet, would love if Fuji put out cameras that do both...kind of lime the screen on the Sony a7R-V (a7R5). Currently, I prefer the XT4 and feel no need to get the XT5 (tilt-only screen was a deal killer for me). That 30mm macro was sweet as a combo walk-around and macro lens... that kind of retro-ish design is kind of cute...

  • @bigheadtaco

    @bigheadtaco

    Жыл бұрын

    thanks for your thoughts. I definitely know the articulating screen can be controversial even amongst stills photographers, but I think within the X Series shooters, most prefer the 3-way. I think we'll see soon with the sales numbers, but I know a lot of it will also have to do with the retro design and functionality as well, not just the screen. As for the 30mm macro, ya it's a great walk around lens. If you really need 1:1 macro, it's a bit unusable at minimum focus.

  • @torinsall

    @torinsall

    @@bigheadtaco Yeah, the screen issue is a really personal preference which would be a non-issue if screens did both. 😉 Useful info on the macro, thanks. I have been liking the 70-300mm and its macro-ish capability as a walkabout zoom lens...reminds me of 35mm film camera days using a Miranda Sensorex ee with a Soligor 90-230mm zoom, which was a great hike-in-the-mountains and back country setup. 🙂
