This is probably one of the best options out there, definitely been one of the best purchases I've made. Support for this thing is amazing. Updates are always in the works for firmware, and if you ever have a problem the official re-seller will make it right ASAP. If you have reflection issues, dashboard or the sun, the separate polarizing filter can help a lot.

Not to mention, this was designed and created by a dash cam enthusiast working in the industry. Worth checking out the dash cam talk forums to follow the development history. I would recommend a polarization filter for the camera, the sun will screw with any camera. You can actually buy polarizing filters for your windshield to apply in front of your camera,and adjust the white balance lower on this camera.

Yeah the polarization filter should help with windshield glare and making the sky pop. I don't think it would help with the sun washing out the image though. If anything, depending on the quality of the optics, the added glass in front of the lens could add reflections when driving into the sun and make it work. It shouldn't help cut down on the overexposure issue I see. That's really cool that the camera was created by a dashcam enthusiast. I mean it makes sense hearing it, but yeah. :)

Like many in the comment section I wanted to believe that other, cheaper, models that look like this unit were the same quality but they are not. I have had a couple of other dash cam units that died within 6 months or a year. I've had this unit installed for almost two years and it has functioned flawlessly.

Thank you for confirming! Yeah a lot of people (understandably) have been wondering about that.

I have one of these and I cannot recommend it highly enough. What's easily the best about this is the lack of high heat distortion. Glass lenses. I mounted the body on the sun shielded part of my windshield (the black dots) with the camera peaking out below to spare it from additional heat while parked.

Quattro Valvole how do you like it??? I have a redline for trips and it's amazing!! Saved me on the first trip with a warning a mile before we done him, but it's a bit annoying in city driving, need something more discerning.

I feel my 9500ix is a great medium between high range performance and quite intelligence in most environments. Honestly I don't NEED a redline but with my families AMG & BRABUS Mercedes I tell to sit at speeds that I could use the extra range of the Redline. And probably an ALP system soon...

That price is crazy! Do yourself a favor and check out the VIOFO A119 2.0" TFT LCD w/GPS module, not antenna. The A119 is $99 on Amazon, it can be found on EBay, pick up a SanDisk High Endurance 64GB ($30) or a Transcend 64GB ($40) High Endurance micro SD XS card and your still under $150. This is my 5th vehicle dash cam, the others did the job but this is the best by far, you can get it cheaper without the GPS module as well. Cheers!

Or just get the a118c-2 (literally the same model as this one) for $66 on ebay right now with the same sd cards and the entire setups is only $100 and has better quality than this stupid Street Guardian overpriced crap.

The price for the Street Guardian is fantastic as their customer service is very noteworthy if you ever need it. Not throwaway quality from Amazon specials.

I know that place @ 7:03 It's Bellevue, NE 8th ST! Also 8:21 is the space needle I use to work there! :)

Really great review! But can you comment on the audio quality? On my blackvue my mic is pointless if I try to yell out a speed limit or license plate number to hear it later when I go back to review footage.

Do you have any newer reviews of any Street Guardians? I have the SG9663DCPRO and it's been fantastic for the past 3-4 years. I'll be jumping into a new car soon and would like to leave this for the next owner and get a newer model for the new car...

Please help me to understand.....i am looking for a camera to record my car journeys. Can a dash cam do this? I am confused as it seem dash cams record for the purpose of in case of accident. I understood they record but rewrite to safe the space etc. So, what if i want the cam to just record all day long? What do i need?

Every dashcam records continuously when you drive to record everything, accident or no accident. When the card gets full, it starts overwriting the oldest footage.

The 1080P V3 with a 32gb SD card is now only 149$! Also now supports up to 256gb

I'm in the market for a new dashcam. The two I have are both Street Guardians, a few years apart. What happened to them? I don't see them recommended anymore. Are they still releasing new products?

+10tenman10 sure there's lots of different cameras with different features, image sensors, processing techniques, and so on. Heck, many of these cameras allow you to adjust the image settings (color, contrast, exposure, etc.) in the settings if you don't like the default look.

I've watched all your reviews for dash cams, I'm the market for a dash cam that's has option of showing your speed on the actual video when you share it on KZread. All the ones you reviewed have GPS and the ability to show your speed when you are using the software, but can all show your speed in the actual video itself?

Ah nice! Yeah it wasn't too big a deal to just tuck it under there. I had to remove a few screws, but it was otherwise pretty straightforward. Congrats on the RPSE! 2 more questions: What is the datakam viewer you are using?I purchased the dashcam viewer but have yet to get it to work right.I did get the MPH to read on the screen. I thought you had said it didn't work?

The one I'm using is straight off the manufacturer's website. The link to it is in the video description. Which one are you using? I can see the speed in the software, but I wasn't able to get it to display on the dashcam video footage itself.

On newer models you can tailor how long a period of time the recording is. Not sure about this one.

Thanks for the great videos. As I am watching I kept telling myself, damn that looks like WA. Ya well...... @2:48 that's a Mini USB connector.. Not Micro. I have the Rexing V1P which is basically the same dashcam as this.

I see they still haven't fixed the poor exposure on this cam even on your test unit - can easily see overexposed brightly-lit areas, especially the skies. And yes, I also have this unit, with latest publicly available firmware. Would gladly switch to something else, with better dynamic range/autoexposure and better color accuracy, unfortunately EVERY other dedicated dashcam designed by "generic Asian company" is just as bad or worse and companies like GoPro still refuse to create a dedicated dashcam units...

The instruction manual clearly says 60% road, 40% sky. Basically tilt the camera slightly downwards.

If you want to do that, the best solution is to opt for a dashcam with WiFi capabilities.

Yep. Take out the memory card and plug it into your computer.

This looks like the same camera sold as the B40 and A118 which sell for just $80 I have the Black Box B40c which is a capacitor version.

the internals are completely different, and the lens is much improved. If I recall correctly the person who designed this works for the same company though.

I think it's just smaller with better video quality. The X2 is built on the Ambarella A12 processor chip, capturing videos in 2.5K (2560x1440P) resolution, while the R2 is built on the Ambarella A7 processor, capturing 2K (2304x1296P) video.

Hello, thanks for the review. The budget hard wire kit you linked to on Amazon is not good. We've had a few of those fry customers cameras due to poor PS quality control. We recommend the CPUSB01. Hi! Thank you for your feedback and the heads up about the hardwire cable. I've updated the link in the video description to point to the CPUSB01 instead, though it is more expensive. As for the firmware, I always prefer running the latest firmware, but when I went to update it, what I was running was the latest available at the time and I didn't see anything else. Good to hear there's an update available now. :)

Excellent. I just noticed you were testing the 2015 V1. The V2 firmware has major Auto Exposure corrections. There should be a new V1 firmware out soon with the same V2 AE updates.

The A119 is not even close to this unit. Especially at night. Where this unit lacks is a real parking mode, which is why I sold mine.

Way over priced...... video that you recorded sucks. Other youtube videos look real good.
