It was Sagat that held the first tournament.

A few additions and corrections: 1. SF1 was a tournament organized by Sagat, and it was the only straightforward one, no evil organizations, no plot to take over the world, just a martial arts tournament 2. If i'm remembering correctly SFIV is a few months after II, it isn't explicitly stated in the game but it is told in supplemental material 3. SFV story mode retconned some parts of the story, Nash's canon ending is the one from Alpha 2, not Alpha 3. In 3rd Strike Chun-li is stated to not having fought for years and was the one that took down Bison, now the one that took Bison is Ryu and Chun-li never stopped fighting 4. Sakura is not a schoolgirl anymore, Ono said that her school uniform is her fighting uniform 5. Captain Commando and Street Fighter 2010 are also on the same timeline as Street Fighter, but set on the future 6. With the addition of Zeku the Striders are now canon to the SF universe too

What supplemental material? SF2010 was only connected in the Western vesion and it doesn't work with the setting at all. When was it said that Captain Commando is connected? Does Zeku's bio or story actually mention the Striders?

The4thSnake About Zeku. The answer is yes. At least twice. For example one of Zeku's titles is "Original Strider". As for CC apparently one of the characters greatly resembles C. Viper and another Practices Bushinryu Ninjutsu. Don't know much about that though.

Also 2010 is called 2010 Street Fighter in Japan. When you write dates in Japan, the year is first, and it is still called Street Fighter. Kevin also has official art in the Street Fighter V character encyclopedia. I remember hearing 2010 takes place in an alternate universe though.

Titles don't make things canon, SFV titles are usually just references and cosmetic. Until I see actual story linking Zeku as a Strider I don't believe it.

Captain Commando is the future timeline its after all street fighter, rival schol, final fight and slam masters events.

Instead of letting Rival Schools rot like most franchises they don't bring up today, they should just make their characters playable in Street Fighter V as new DLC. It worked for King of Fighters (sharing the same universe with Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Psycho Soldier etc)

i'd still rather have a Rival Schools 3. Kyosuke appeared in one of the Capcom vs SNK games and he felt a little out of place. Also, my favourite character is Kyoko and she would not work well in a SF game.

kof is like a "dream match" of these characters. they dont have a real timeline connected to art of fighting and fatal furry. kof is like a "parallell world" which all these characters lives at the same time. most of kof plot doesnt match the other games.

That's true today. SNK / Playmore gave up on it when KOF 96 happened. Geese was supposed to be dead on that time yet he's on the boss team. For some reason they're still trying though. Southtown getting destroyed in 2000. Young Rock in KOF2002 Terry's win pose, Rock playable in KOF XIV. Which is wierd seeing Geese also alive. So why how did Terry adopt Rock if Geese is alive? =P

Loved the Street Fighter storyline ! The only thing I hate about it is there is so many versions of one game that it makes the storyline's confusing and that one plot hole about Rival Schools being in the same timeline when The SF Alpha series is supposed to be in the late eighties when Rival Schools is in the late 90s early 2000s, great video btw !

My cousin was always Ken and I was always Ryu. We were super competitive and really enjoyed the evolution both characters took throughout the games! They started out essentially the same character then became vastly different

Asura Wrath is non canon and Star Gladiator has zero relation with the main line. But Captain Commando is canon.

Nope but I think that street fighter is just a media in Mega man universe. Like they did in SFV main story where Sean was playing Mega Man 2 on a portable console.

It was Sagat who organised the 1st tournament.

I have adhd so you have no idea how hard it is to remember and keep track with this

gimme makoto in SFV, she's the only character I want :( Also funny note about Makoto As far as I understand, makoto is in high school in street fighter 3: 3rd strike, and 3rd strike takes place something like 5 years after street fighter 4 and knowing that mel masters ages between street fighter 5 and street fighter 3 (as shown in 5's cinematic story and one of the endings in SF3 2i) we know that there is no "sliding timescale" between the games and all characters age linearly throughout the series' timeline. this means that at most Makoto was 18 years old in Street fighter 3, and AT MOST 13 YEARS OLD IN STREET FIGHTER 4, POSSIBLY YOUNGER also something I'm not sure if you noted or not; since street fighter 3 takes place in 1999, every other game takes place before 1999, so ages are a lot closer together than if we were counting the year in which the game was released as the game's chronological setting, especially since that would wildly fuck with canon. that's how i understand it anyways, I don't think there needs to be a sliding timescale to explain everything anyways

Also in a Dengeki Japanese magazine interview questioning were Sakura is in SFIII timeline, she's still StreetFighting with her "fighting clothes" meaning the school uniform.

I feel like I should mention that Alpha 3 really can't be consider canon at this point, Guile, Charlie and Chun-Li as well as a few others storylines in that game aren't considered canon and several interactions, events and deaths are retconned as well. Guile's ending A3 suggests that Charlie dies in Thailand whilst his SF2 ending says he dies in Cambodia. SFV presents Charlie's A2 ending (he's shot by a chopper and falls off a water fall) as his canon death but retconned the place as Brazil I think... Also Cammy's story in A3 would mess up the timeline alone with how she meets Ryu early on in her career as Killer Bee and has her ending suggests that she is freed and joins Delta Red within a the same year. In short I think it works better to have very specific events in A3 to be apart of your timeline, trim the fat and only keep what we know for sure from the lore. It would certainly make it easier to include in the timeline to pluck certain events and cutting out the rest. This video was lots of fun, studying the timeline and lore of each adaptation (movies, comic and games) was a big deal for me during my adolescence , thanks for the memories.

Well, if I went too in-depth on A3, we'd be here all day. Best to just say A3 is largely canon, but some bits aren't, which is typical of fighting games back then.

One of the writers for SFV and voice actor for Necalli addressed this in the Superbestfriends podcast. Essentially, the different versions of the story we see in the various endings coexist in-universe by way of hearsay, the official story vs what really happened, and things like that. kzread.info/dash/bejne/em1ox9hwkpydnsY.htmlm3s But then, he also (jokingly) talks about Capcom VS SNK as canon. Turns out Mr. Karate is the strongest Street Fighter character.

You know what I learned from this time line crap the world Street Fighter is set in has a real addiction to solving every problem with fist fights.

Wow. I definitely remember playing Rival Schools. It was on the Dreamcast (or PS1 in case I'm not remembering right). I'm an old guy, so I'm surprised that I even remember that game and being able to play it very well as a young teen.

Actually, Forgotten Worlds, Strider and Captain Comando are somewhat in the same universe.

I'm pretty sure ALL Capcom games are connected. Seeing as X uses Ryu's attacks a lot, Frank West can be a Servbot, Nero now has a Mega Buster, and SFV has DMC costumes.

In Canada (or at least Ontario), we can return to school for another year after graduation, so we can still be in High school at the age of 19.

Japanese students leave high school at 18 so it's not too much of a stretch to say sakura is 19. Perhaps she was put back a year??

From what I've read: 1} According to Akira Yasuda (the Final Fight designer who came up with Poison) in the Street Fighter X Tekken art book, he sees Poison as a cisgender female in Japan as that was his original intention, but is a post-op transgender woman in the International version. 2} Ono, since saying what I originally posted, initially retracted by saying she's post-op everywhere, and then saying that it is up to the fans. Essentially, there is no clear answer other than she is definitely transgender, considering the abundance of clues in the games (other fighters' win quotes and costumes, mainly).

Great job! It seems silly now but with the success of Avengers: Infinity War, a more badass overall story is accepted without thinking too much of the crazy timeline.

In the remake say why not we add Makoto, Ibuki and maybe Sean in the Rival schools story arc ?

My new favourite video,love this new timeline and dates, makes perfect sense!! A few comments and trivia... You could have mentioned Sagat's eye was missing because of Gou Hibiki, Dan's father and now Dan wants revenge and went to train with Gouken, bringing everything full circle to the Satsui no Hado. World Warrior Tournament 1 winner was Ryu, WW2 was technically Ryu, but it's unconfirmed since the sponsor of the tourney was an evil dictator and he got slaughtered by a demon, WW3 winner was Alex. The S.I.N. tourney was unofficial and had many endings in (U)SF4, and a la fighting game fashion, could all be "what ifs" but most could make sense and happen at the same time because there are multiple SETHs. This video is 2 years old so you need to make an update on SFV because it seems Capcom wants to do a second cinematic story that follows A Shadow Falls. Zeku is the first Strider, almost confirmed canon. C.Viper seems to have a prototype of Captain Commando's tech.

so it's like this? street fighter 1, rival schools: united by fate, alpha 1 and 2 - ryu is 23, sakura is around 14 years old rival schools: project justice - ryu is 24, sakura is around 15 years old street fighter alpha 3 - ryu is 25, sakura is around 16 years old (canon) street fighter 2 - ryu is 26, sakura is around 17 years old (possibly) street fighter 4 - ryu 27, sakura is around 18 years old (possibly)

Forgot Cannon Spike Strider and Captain Commando ( in the future ). Btw Fighting Layer, King of Fighters and Tekken are said to share the same universe.

Akuma's appearance in Tekken is probably part of the Project X Zone/Super Robot Wars shared universe in which all of these games, several other Capcom, Namco and Sega games as well as some mecha anime and Fire Emblem all take place in.

This is by far one of my favourite videos and what caused me to subscribe to you in the first place, I would love to see an in-depth review of each of these games one day

Well, I've been told about a few mistakes and omissions I made, so I'll be doing a follow-up that includes those things, as well as recent revelations.

I love Capcom, but they're about as subtle as a firework bazooka.

Ken was actually never in the world marital art tour meant, ryu was the only one there, ken went to the all American fighting tournament , that’s why Ken was known as the American fighting champion

I've come back to watch this at least 10 times since it came out because there's always something I miss. The thing that never makes sense to me is Cammy and Bison. I don't even know if Capcom knows. Sometimes Cammy is human, possesed, sometimes a "clone" body. Yet she still appears to age. Same with Bison. He apparently keeps dying but whenever he comes back he shows age like greying hair and such....like...if you were a soul that just goes into a clone when you die, why choose one that looks older? Want to keep up with your real age?

Not yet, it isn't. I did a follow-up about Strider and how that's part of the setting too. You need to watch that video to reach 100% completion, my friend.
