Episode 816 - Streampie feat. Charles Austin (3/18/24)
/ chapo-trap-house
Art/Animation by Emily Halaka @emilyhalaka
Episode 1 and Fortune Kit’s Charles stops by the show today to look at a few real life individuals who remind us of E1 characters, including the streamer Destiny, who we’ve all seen clips of getting yelled at by Norm Finkelstein last week. We also check in on New York’s bling bishop, the Stonetoss doxxing, South Dakota Governor Kirsti Noem, and some “new” edgy Christians who like boobs, beer, & swearin’. Finally, Charles brings us some updates from one of Fortune Kit’s favorite guys, the king of “what’s a song that’s made up of notes?” vapid twitter engagement prompts, Eric Alper.
Find Episode 1 & Fortune Kit wherever you get podcasts.
Find Charles’ band Solipse’s music: solipse.bandcamp.com/track/lo...
And the music from E1, including from The Ballad of Brewer Grouse: episodeone.bandcamp.com/album...

Twenty five years of dental practice, switching to politics in 2010 at the age of fifty two. Jeff Van Drew (R) in New Jerseys 2nd Congressional District and Brian Brabin (R) in Texas' 36th Congressional District as well.

There have always been rude language-using evangelists, going back to Luther, famously. It's part of the method called Inculturation, to use the street language of the marginalised people you want to appeal to. Yes, such evangelist traditionally got into trouble with their denominations and local congregations, but they were proved right over time by being more effective than them at persuading people. I'm guessing it's also another index of the way that conservatives and the working class are coming closer together at the same time as libs are becoming ever more posh and snobbish and etiquette-obsessed and completely losing all pretense of giving a shit about poor people's lives. Conservatives are increasingly becoming aware of the immiseration of most people, including themselves, and the concern and shift of sympathies down to the working class, especially working class trads obviously, but in general, is real, even if in the higher echelons it's completely cynical. Churchgoers go to church with poorer churchgoers, and they're required to give a shit about who else is in the building with them at the time, as a matter of lip service and liturgies as well as preaching content. Then again, the internet is melting everyone's brains, so it could be that too.

That is absolutely nonsense. His accent is nothing close to any Quebecois accent. Eric Alper was born and raised in Toronto. He doesn't speak French. He is at least a third generation Torontonian. His grandfather opened Grossman's Tavern, the first blues bar in Toronto. Advice: if you don't know something for sure, don't comment on it.

I love how the discussion of the debate amounts to petty observations because they understand the topic even less than Finkle. Complaining about debate streamers while being lefty political podcasters, an objectively worse mode of being, is hilarious. They literally hit all of the classics: 1. Talk about how he talks (too fast, shrill, etc.) 2. Talk about his marriage while insisting they dont care 3. "I didnt watch it but he did a bad job!" I have all sorts of criticism for the guy, but destiny engages with ideas more, has a more broad positive community, and engages in political advocacy more than these people ever will.
