@@cyclicalsnake He's socially left-leaning but more of a centrist as far as I can tell, mainly gleaning that from how much of a "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" kinda mindset he takes. He's a guy whose parents made him drop out of college for a few years to wander around and learn yoga, and then paid for him to hop into a top college _again_ after that. He doesn't like to acknowledge that medication can help ADHD a whole lot. He talks a LOT about people needing to find what they "really want to do" and very rarely acknowledges that most people don't have the finances to do that and probably never will. The reality of being trapped into doing shit you'd really rather not do so you don't starve to death, for the rest of your life, seems foreign to him.

@@pramitpratimdas8198 Measurehead is a great example of how a white teen who feels like he was rigged by a hidden agenda against him (it happens, placebo is natural) comes across eugenics and Darwinism and uses it to project his paranoia, by cherrypicking it to create a perspective based on Plato's Republic (which is inadvertedly purely hypothetical and impossible in practice). Again, Disco Elysium does a great job explaining why "fascists" exist; it's their coping mechanism with the foggy reality. I love disco elysium for how it deconstructs the poltical bipartisan frictions by bringing up the real life factors inducing it.

funny enough the fact that the devs are leftists is what makes their jokes on communism so good. they portray the caricature of the communist still stuck in the 80's mentality so well, at the same time they portray all the nuances of the political spectrum in the characters and worldbuilding. I tried to steer away from the hardcore communism while also not being a ridiculous centrist, and parachuted into the "moralists", I thought they made sense at first, trying to achieve the greater good through democracy and peaceful means, but turns out they are just a bunch of self-aggrandizing bureaucrats that have been in power for years and never accomplished anything because they never take action. it was a bit of a wake up call about myself.

I had gotten it recommended to me by a good friend and then I listened to a couple of fellas with a channel called The Bonus Points who really sold it for me. They had Disco Elysium in the first place of a list of games they played and talked about for their podcast (with over fifty games on it, if I remember correctly) until zelda totk came in first... and then they changed it so de is back in first place a while ago when the novelty of the new shiny zelda game had worn off. Can definitely recommend their stuff btw, great if you're like me, aka really not that good at games but still super interested in em. One of em is also playing through bloodborne for his first time and it's perfect because his mate is backseating in the least annoying way possible while still helping a tad so the learning curve becomes slightly less steep. That series is a lovely watch if you've never played or watched anyone play all of bloodborne.

I... don't know if disco is exactly age appropriate for an 8 year old. It's not even the usual sex and drugs and rock and roll issue that most other "mature" content has (though that's part of it), not the violence and gore (though that's part of it). This is a highly political and pretty philosophical game. It's not like you need to have read das kapital, mein kampf and locke's treatises to be allowed to play it but i feel like almost all of the great writing will just go over the kid's head. I don't think kids are as dumb as people make them out to be but in this case i genuinely don't think 8 years are enough time to passively get all the info needed to appreciate this. This feels like one of those amazing gaming experiences that you can only fully get blind once, so it would really be wasted on an 8 year old. Idk if you bought it already and if he played it already, maybe he has already played it by the time i've written this (not sure if by "he loves disco" you mean the game or the music genre) and loved it, in which case good for him, but if not i strongly suggest you to save it for later, not even for moralistic reasons but genuinely because he wouldn't enjoy it as much as he would when older, it's not a game like call of duty which gives the same experience to a 6 year old and a 26 year old.

EDIT: SPOILERS Genuinely, the end phasmid moment, after a massive 8h binge session of Disco, where I was TAKEN IN by the world, the inner dialogue, how much of a mess you could be, it was such a redemptive thing, like despite all the horrible things you've seen and done, you can reach out to this pure creature, speak with it, and like have something to share with Kim, (and the world, if you succeed), like it's absolutely amazing that you can just totally miss this; going back to the researchers after this is also so cathartic, the end reaction is absolutely bang-on :) That and it encouraging you to keep going, for the people too, after you've been shot and are kinda wrapping things up is such an uplifting thing in a world where a lot seems to go wrong, god it's such a once-in-a-lifetime thing that you can point to a story and say its a good representation of what a medium as a whole can do.

The funniest thing about Measurehead is that, in my opinion, he represents how debate is useless when you have to accept an otherwise ridiculous worldview in order to proceed. You can only debate Measurehead and win if you accept his terms, if you agree with the fact that races are anything other than arbitrary labels. The real response is to kick his ass or figure out the docks yourself, engaging with him in his space only serves to lower and distract you. Which is why it’s very funny to see Therapist Twitch guy say “he’s being accurate” as he easily accepts the faux-academic classification of races, and doesn’t even really know that’s what he’s accepting as he continues to debate Measurehead.
