Watching a big brown right in front is an amazing thing to observe. The white mouth opens, the bait disappears and then when the right moment happens, a little tug to set the hook. And that’s followed by head shakes felt right up into my hands.
I kept saying keep up because I didn’t want to have the fish get around the branch you can see on the left, nor did I want it to dive as there were lots of branches and logs where my 4lb test would easily break. Back in episode 2 I lost a fish and I almost lost 1 in episode 4, so I had a concern that the longer I played the fish or better still, the longer it played me, the chances of it getting free increased. Every tug and twist it took made its release more possible so it was an incredible relief to use Alfred’s net and see the nose of the big guy curl over the frame. He was secured at last! Again, always amazing to feel the power of a big fish. And what a stream! Great promise for opening season a mere 6 months away! Drats!
