Oh yeah... thank you for posting this!! First time I saw this incredible group of set apart talent was around 1994-5, I was maybe 19, sneaking into bars all over Houston to catch talented acts, can't remember where, but it was inside the loop, Montrose area... anyway, Moses Guest played first as I recall it. And that night was the first night Stratus was auditioning this new bass player, that was like 21, clean cut, but with long hair, and a confidence that even before they hit the first note, you knew he was gonna absolutely kill it. He did too. Everybody was blown away with this kid. I swear he didn't miss a lick, not a single note. And what they were playing, especially the first song, would've made even Jaco hand over praise. The guy had a solid white bass.. I think it was a Modulus 4 string. Tone for daaaaayz is all I'm saying. I'll never forget it. The guy had everybody in the place foaming at the mouth wanting more. One of the most amazing sets I've ever seen and heard. There must've been only 30-40 people in this dank little hole in the wall. But it felt like I was at Red Rock hearing progressive fusion jazz for the very first time. My eyes and ears were opened for sure.

Ha! I used to sit in Bell park listening to them play in 1990, because I was too young to get in to Zanzibar Blue! I was eventually at The Ale House show when they recorded the live CD! Dave Nichols lives on!
