Strategies for English Fluency and Confidence

Today I want to ask you: Are you making some mistakes that are hurting your English fluency and confidence goals?
Maybe you’ve been studying and practicing English for years. Maybe you even live in an English-speaking country. But speaking English is still a challenge.
And you might be doing everything right. You’re listening to podcasts, watching TV, doing a little English every day but nothing works. If that is true for you, then today I want to share 5 English learning mistakes you might be making. Unfortunately, these mistakes stop your progress in English fluency and confidence.
But they don’t have to. I’m going to tell you exactly how to stop making them.
In fact, these 5 mistakes are 100% avoidable. In today’s video lesson, I want to help you:
⚡️Identify if you are making some of these mistakes
⚡️Learn how to stop making them so you can make progress in your English instead
⚡️Avoid the stress, the frustration, and the feeling of being stuck that is a result of making these common mistakes
So if you can speak English but…
✨you always feel nervous and ask your colleagues to speak for you instead.
✨you lose your words, you forget what you want to say, and you can’t say what you want in English.
✨you’re so worried about mistakes or your pronunciation so you decide to stay quiet.
✨you’re always shy, nervous, and stressed. You’re tired and frustrated. You worked so hard in English but nothing worked.
Then you might be making some of these mistakes. Let’s change that.

In my journey of learning how to speak English, I found myself on a totally unexpected realization when one day I called up my home and had to leave a message for my husband. When I arrived at home and listened to my message, I was surprised to find out my voice mail was impossible to understand! My pronunciation/accent was so heavy it sounded like everything but English 😭 So, I enlisted the services of a speech pathologist specializing in accents. She gave me some exercises to soften the accent and improve my pronunciation. Reading aloud everyday was key and provided most needed practice. I noticed how people stopped asking to repeat myself, and as a result, my confidence grew and although aware of my grammar mistakes, still the fact that people could understand me, gave me the encouragement to keep practicing. Practice does make perfect (almost). My advise to those living in any English speaking country is, make friends with whom you have to speak in English, do not hang out with your compatriots only and stay in your comfort zone. The only way to speak in English is by talking to others in that language.

I wasn't able to speak well up until I mastered B1. Especially the infinitives, and the conditionals. Also, prepositions matter.. collocations really matter, idioms are not a bad idea. What you need is to have the new word repeated at least 4 times - to encounter it this much in your life to memorize it. - I achieved this with textbooks. I started speaking well only when i enriched my vocabulary and knowledge enough to feel confident I would have enough substitutes word and I won't pause the conversation. my advice would be if you use textbooks that are very rich in hard constructions, and plenty of unknown words, and study study study along with the practice. I made bunches of exercises and took my time not to mechanically fill the gaps but to understand every single case. If I was feeling weak with a certain grammar I doubled tripled the number of exercises I was doing. This really worked. As your brain just knows it already by heart and you needn't think when you are speaking. Also, man should triple his attention, so that he could learn from everywhere. Not only from a textbook.

About the job promotion, my manager asked me if I want to be a PIC/supervisor and I said no, my problem is, I get stock , I can’t find the right word and my coworkers and I still speaks our native language but I guess 5-10mins a day will make a difference! I actually have three ways of reading any materials. One is there are times that I read silently, second is I read the material by speaking it and not looking to anything around me, and last but not least is I read aloud the material and imagining myself discussing the content to someone else. Doing these ways speeds up the process of developing my confidence in speaking the english language. By the way, I'm only using the phone of my mother and this is not my google account. Lol 😂

I didn't started English by having to do grammar exercices. A long long time ago back to 1964 the first English lessons taught by the English teacher were about phonetics, how to pronounce the English sounds ( Receive prononciation ) where to put your tongue to pronounce the two 'the' , the diphthongs, the vowels etc. After a quite boring weeks we started to read stories and answering questions. Well some of my classmates started to answering questions I didn't. Nowadays I think phonologie and phonetics are essentiel for the pronunciation . It is very useful when you come across a new word .

I really want to enjoy going through kind of obstacles I face everyday not struggling with them. be optimistic, be positive, looking up at the bright side all the time. my dear friends here in the same trouble let's keep taking a step one by one side by side. of course it takes time but we know it's worthy. let's dream of ourselves speaking English fluently, confidently, naturally in the near future. we are getting closer to our goal. god bless you all

We think that if we speak English to native speakers, they will make fun of us that we don't speak like them, our accent is different. They won't understand us, etc etc. The truth is they don't expect us to talk like them. They become extra attentive to our accent and pronunciation and extra supportive in helping us choose the right words. They acknowledge the fact the English is a foreign language for us. So, just speak without thinking about the accent, grammar, vocabulary. I m saying this from experience.

This is one of the best lessons I have found on youtube. First thing thanks for that. Same set of mistakes were with me as well back in those days. Then I got few tough love and sowed a layer of seeds to cultivate good habits in me. Those are, daily dedication, practice speaking with office coleagues, learn through mistakes, 15 minutes reading time everyday etc. all of these seemed challenging at start but I felt a change in me over the time. That drove me to a stage where I could talk confidently at work. I have a way to go. Thanks for your fantastic ideas.

Hello, teacher, I am Elim Querales. Nice to meet you! I am from Venezuela. I am a teacher and I love this language but I can't speak fluent neither confident . I speak english but very slowly . I can read, write, ponounce, but the most difficult for me it's listening in english and for that reason I don't speak fluency. I must say the true that I teach basic english in a public high school and a private collegue and I always make a lot of efforts for giving the best of me as teacher and special I consider that I know grammar and its rules of grammar and phonetic and I practice with my students small talk in english about some topics and others words I have experience with the english. I have made a lot of courses of english and as a teacher Ilive preparing each ever more because my best wish it´s be able to communicate in english of the correctly way and the people can understand everything in english. I practice english alone in my home and I always reseach on internet some material that are interesting and important for improving my english. Also i watch tv in english, I listen music in english. But when I spend more time practicing english and I can't see good results I feel frustration so much and I feel sad because I can't speak fluency and confident. I honestly I don't have enough money for pay a good private english course . I know good sites as TALK ENGLISH , VOAENGLISH, ELLLO, ENGLISH CONNECT, OM PERSONAL ENGLISH and a lot of resources for improving my english. my dream is being better for helping my students and all people that wish to learn english. Finally teacher I hope that you can read my comment and let me express congratulation for your great job about teaching english fluent and confident. I like how you communicate and explain step to step for learning english and I hope that you can answer me as soon as you can please I would like to communicate with you for facebook, look for me as ELIM QUERALES for practicing english and exchange my spanish. it was a pleasure . See you teacher. Have a nice day!

You're right the only way to learn to speak in english is to speak it....just like if you want to learn to swim go to swimming pool or to the ocean to swim.Speaking the language and not afraid to commit mistakes, either in grammar or pronunciation.Practice can move you to 2nd level and start to motivate you, to learn more and more until you reach your pull potential.

My problem was, I used to procrastinate a lot, and also I used to have trouble on concentration. But now I'm managing my time and I'm really doing well on that. I'm putting more offort into my studying. When I used to make mistakes I say to myself, it's better for me to give up. But now I like making mistakes, because I learn from mistakes I made. So now giving up is not an option for me. 💜💛❤️❣️🍁💚♥️💜♥️
