Really short review today of the new Retr Razor Bracelet from Strapcode for the Orient Kamasu. I've been meaning to check out Strapcode for a while now, and just happened to come across this crazy new bracelet recently. So I placed an order and here we are.

    That dial color is really awesome. Have you ever compared a Mako USA and a Kamasu side by side? I was looking at one the other day and they seem really similar. Although I thought the bezel action seemed a little better on the Kamasu.

    I love the long links. I bought my first Orient watch, and first thing I did was replace the original straps on my Bambino with real alligator straps. Much more comfortable and looks better. I have been slowly repairing my watches and decided to order a bunch of different straps , like a few Mesh, Natos for my Vostok Komandirski watches I just bought. I love how straps can change the look of a watch. I have a Elini barokas General 48mm Dive watch and replacing the 28mm straps. Those I found on Amazon since it seemed no one carried that size. Loved the video

    I've been a satisfied customer of Strapcode for years and it is the only place I go if I'm looking for a solid fitted endlink on an aftermarket bracelet. Especially if your looking to outfit a Seiko. I've bought Uncle Seiko bracelets and straps but they tend to aim for the reproduction market, which usually means hollow end links. While hollow links are ideal when fitting the bracelets I hate the rattle that accompanies them.

    Relative Time I have the Angus Jubilee on my alpinist(If I had it to do over I would get the regular Jubilee) , and one on my SKX 007, I also have the oyster on my Orient Ray II. I have a brand-new Jubilee that I purchased for a Seiko Sumo, but ended up returning the watch. I Contacted Strapcode and I can order different endlinks and put it on something else...I believe they quoted $32. One thing I would love them to do is put the end links available for each bracelet. It would be nice to be able to swap them to different watches.

    I bought the orient kamasu red on a whim in January of 2019. At the time of purchase, Little did I realize that I was going to pick up a watch that would become my future favourite. There is something about the red dial that makes you look at it again and again! As much as I like the strapcode bracelet and its retro look, I feel there is something about this watch and a mesh bracelet(milanese)..they pair really well.

    It’s just not doing it for me so the quest for my perfect red Kamasu watch strap continues. What did peak my interest was seeing a bracelet on the Vaer Heritage Dark. I think I’ll pursue that and leave the Kamasu on the dark brown leather strap I currently have on it. Strapcode does make quality straps and you can’t go wrong buildwise. Keep these coming Shane. I’m currently waiting on a Seagull 1963 to arrive. That should prove to be a good addition to anyone’s collection or so I hope. Time will tell but for $167 on AliExpress with a sapphire crystal I couldn’t resist.

    Hi Shane. I finally got around to getting the Strapcode Razor bracelet for my red Kamasu only to find it doesn't fit. The endlinks are entirely different from the ones in the bracelet you featured as they have a much reduced curve, almost straight. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this? • @RelativeTime

    @vincee7621

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for your reply Shane. My apologies for taking your time but this does at least say something for the longevity and relevance of your reviews. The endlinks don't fit because the curve is too shallow, almost straight. I purchased the bracelet on Amazon UK and there's not much I can do with Amazon except apply for a refund. Although I'd much rather keep the bracelet and change the links. I have since contacted Strapcode to explain the situation and ask if suitable endlinks are available. They have been in touch with me and I am looking forward to hearing back from them. I have a feeling that the design of the Razor bracelet has possibly been altered since your review. I will keep you informed if I may. All the best, Vincent. Ps. Have you see the new burnt orange dial 'Mako 3' by the way? Thats something!

    Thanks again for putting out these bracelet reviews! This is all good info. These bracelets may be on the pricey side, but if they can make a good watch great, I for one am willing to pay for it. That razor bracelet is so unlike anything I’ve ever seen that I don’t know how to feel about it yet. But it’s really good to know there are all these crazy, good quality bracelets to spice up one’s watches. Now I have to figure out which straight-end bracelet would suit the style of my champagne dial Hamilton Khaki King. (There are no fitted end link aftermarket bracelets for that one.) If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them :) I was really surprised to hear that the Strapcode bracelet actually weighs less than the stock bracelet - even with solid end links and a milled clasp! That’s some kind of magic.

    @@reinaldtan2361 Probably safer. It is an awesome combo. I actually have another strapcode bracelet heading my way right now. I noticed they finally came out with some for the 40mm Seiko 5 sports. AKA the Dress-KX. So I ordered a Jubilee one to try out.

    I've ordered one for an SKX project a couple of years ago and I payed $60 bracelet (for the SKX, the site says) plus another 60 in taxes and shipping. While it wasn't bad, the bracelet did not perfectly fit the skx (original) case, at least not like the original bracelet did. The clasp was garbage at best compared to any other piece that I had on a decent watch. Overall, I will say it's not worth it. It's not worth @ $60, it's certainly a scam @ $120. A lot of people praise strapcode, but I had my personal experience so there's that.

    Interesting. Do you remember if the clasp was milled or pressed? I am curious as to why the bracelets for SKX start at $60 where the Alpinists and the Orients start at $90-$100. Maybe it's just supply and demand.

    I do love Orient as a brand. Not really a fan of the Kamasu, although I think that has all to do with my weird personality trait of disliking something the more others seem to like (and liking something the more others seem to dislike), rather than the watch itself. Have to say though, really not a fan of that strapcode bracelet. But as I've said many times if we all liked the same we would be borg (or should that be singular I am borg 🤔)

    I can understand that, I'm the same way sometimes. If we all had the same watch it would be really boring. Especially on KZread. You can only talk about a submariner so much. 😎

    I've bought three Strapcode bracelets. One was custom for my (green) Kamasu. The other two are straight-end link. Like you said, these are good quality bracelets, but it can become expensive if the watch you're buying it for isn't a "keeper." (The Kamasu is a keeper.) So I bought two with straight ends so that they could fit on other watches if I decided to get rid of a particular watch or if I just wanted a change of pace and swap one out. And a big NO on the roller-ball bracelet you show at the end. Ugly.

    Why is "in house movement" a thing people bring up?

  • @RelativeTime

    @RelativeTime

    I think if you asked 5 different people that, you would get 5 different answers. It's just one of those questions. I think for some it's a matter of prestige. Which matters more if you are talking luxury level movements. As the company is big enough and has enough control to make sure the materials and components that go in are the best possible. Which obviously isn't the case here. In this case I think it's something that makes Orient more "unique" than all the microbrand divers out there that are using standard Seiko movements. Which to me is kind of cool. Of course the downside to that is if it needs to be repaired. It will be harder to source and maybe more expensive then if it was a standard Seiko NH35.
