Bruno Anthony thinks he has the perfect plot to rid himself of his hated father and when he meets tennis player Guy Haines on a train, he thinks he's found the partner he needs to pull it off. His plan is relatively simple. Two strangers each agree to kill someone the other person wants disposed of. For example, Guy could kill his father and he could get rid of Guy's wife Miriam, freeing him to marry Anne Morton, the beautiful daughter of a U.S. Senator. Guy dismisses it all out of hand but but Bruno goes ahead with his half of the 'bargain' and disposes of Miriam. When Guy balks, Bruno makes it quite clear that he will plant evidence to implicate Guy in her murder if he doesn't get rid of his father. Guy had also made some unfortunate statements about Miriam after she had refused him a divorce. It all leads the police to believe Guy is responsible for the murder, forcing him to deal with Bruno's mad ravings.

Nice editing. A suggestion though- don't summarize the entire movie when making a trailer- it gives a lot away. Just show enough for the audience to get a sense of the plot and to build anticipation in their minds so that they feel eager to see the movie. In other words, a trailer ought to be an entry point, not a summary.

The sad odyssey of Robert Walker who died August 28, 1951 before completing "My Son John" still resonates today. He was just 32 and I'm sure had he lived, the 1950s & 60s would have given plenty of roles if he could have gotten his alcoholism under control.

This is fascinating. Sort of like quicksand. Guy could have saved himself if he was honest right from the start. But as he delayed, the quicksand was slowly taking him down. So if your involved in anything bad, fess up right away cause it will only get worse. If I was a Grade 9 teacher, I would have my class watch this and write an essay on what they would have done.

Strangers on a Train (1951) Hitchcock never fails to surprise you and such a visionary man that makes you how revolutionary he was for the film industry. Arguably one of the pioneering "suspense thriller" maker of all-time. Guy Haines, a tennis player and a man soon to be wed to the Senator's daughter, if he can get a divorce from his current wife. One day, on the way to see his wife, he meets the mentally unstable Bruno Anthony aboard a train and soon gets drawn into a murder plot that he can neither stop nor stall; and one that could ultimately cost him his life.

+Igor Sena Pereira Brilliant! Bone Chilling! This was written by Patricia Highsmith in 1950 who is the same Lady who wrote The Talented Mr. Ripley in 1952, then The Lesbian Classic The Price Of Salt aka Carol in 1953 but she wrote it under the name of Claire Morgan. I saw this on PBS one afternoon. Patricia Rooney who played Therese Belivet in Carol said it best when she said that while most of Patricia Highsmith's Books are of the Criminal Mind, Carol was about The Amorous Mind.

In those days divorce used to shock folks, so I'm surprised the senator was allowing his daughter to be with this married man, even before she was murdered. This would have looked bad on his life and family, for the media to report his daughter was going out with a man who was married to someone else. This would have been scandal, in itself. This does not show up in the film. I suppose he had to be married, for someone to murder.
