Today Now her facial expression (and those glasses) as he’s choking the old lady and her reaction afterwards are the parts that always stood out most to me

This was, perhaps, her 'juiciest' role but she played a small but vital role in Psycho opening the theme of a dominating mother on a light note with the pill popping fellow secretary.

I loved Pat Hitchcock as an actress. Gone almost 3 years now.

One of Hitchcock's best films.

With Patricia is was quality over quantity, for whatever she was in, it left a lasting impression.

Robert Walker gave an amazing performance. What could have been an incredible career ended in tragedy. RIP.

This movie is worth watching for Robert Walker's performance, and Hitchcock's usual style and humor. I need to see what else Walker has done. The script of this movie has some serious flaws though. I might detail what I think those are elsewhere, or here if anyone cares to ask.

That's funny how he said he would only cast her in a part if she was absolutely right for it, because when I watched this movie, I was struck by how totally perfect she was for that role.

Patrica Hitchcock as of 2020..born 1928 age 92 .

Hitch chose the fairground music himself, the 1890's tune 'And the Band Played On' - he particularly liked the line 'His brain was so loaded it nearly exploded... " a perfect description of Bruno the Psychopath.

@@thedativecase9733 Highsmith and Hitch were on the same wavelength... it infuriates me that Hitch didn't make The Talented Mr. Ripley.

RIP Pat, you were truly one of the most beautiful creatures ever to exist. You are and will continue to be dearly missed.

She is very good in this movie. She is also in a few of her father's TV show.

*Patricia Hitchcock was such a good interviewee that I regret that there are not more interviews with her available to the public. And just as she "would have loved it if [her father] had believed in nepotism," so would I. She was very good in "Strangers on a Train," and she had a small part in "Psycho," but that's all I remember.*

One of my favorite Hitchcock films. I always remember him trying to retrieve the lighter. Excruciating!

I ALSO LOVE ALL THE SCENES IN THE AMUSEMENT PARK! I LOVE OLD TIME AMUSEMENT PARKS, THEY HAVE AN EERIE QUALITY ABOUT THEM,EVER SINCE I WAS A CHILD IN THE 1950’s!

Alfred Hitchcock storyboarded his movies, in a time when story boarding was only done by animators? No wonder he is considered a master of his medium.

One of Hitchcock's more overlooked films . People talk more about North By Northwest , Rear Window and Psycho more often

strangers on a train, dial m for murder and rear window were great movies. I really liked strangers on a train when i first watched it

Robert Walker was so good in this movie.

The Metcalf railroad station in this film is actually the old RR station in Danbury, CT which is not terribly far outside New York and is now a railroad museum.

I just watched the movie for the first time and liked it. The Barbara character was especially endearing.

She took quite a few wonderful turns on the TV show.

I only clicked on this because I thought you had gotten Patricia Highsmiths name wrong and was gonna tell you off but i'm glad I did it is very interesting

I saw Hitchcock in 1974 for a reshoot a block or two from Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital. He was by a very old black vehicle. He was very short. His wife Alma who wasn't there was shorter. Patricia is very short herself.

RIP.

Farley Granger was so underrated. Side Street, Rope, They Live by Night, Strangers on a Train and just as handsome as Tyrone Power.

I always liked Pat Hitchcock.......she kind of grew on you! She knew she was not Grace Kelly or Tippi Hedren, but she had a cool, quick wit about her that made one sit up and take notice of what she was going to say, as well as when she said it! Even in “Strangers on a Train” alone, there were many lines she delivered up that made me laugh out loud! Imagine growing up the only child of Alfred and Alva (Reville) Hitchcock! Two geniuses who, by many accounts, argued art and film day and night; as well as the wandering eye for the leading ladies Hitch supposedly fell in love in the production of every film! But Patricia “turned out” poised, saucy, graceful, comical and quite the gifted little actress! 😘 🌟 I think her performance in this film (Strangers on a Train”) was her best - maybe it’s because she received more than one or two lines, which helped showcase her ability to show humor, understanding, love for family, joy of sleuthing, and mistrust for the murderer well before anyone else in the family. Rest In Peace with The Lord, Ms. Hitchcock. I’ll bet you were a great friend to have. I’m sorry I never got to meet you! You did your parents proud!💕🕊🙏😘✝️❤️💜✡️🌹

Funny enough, this was the first Hitchcock movie I every watched. It got me to watch his other films, but this one is still my favorite.

"And The Band Played On", the fairground song that intrudes into the soundtrack in this scene, is heard repeatedly in this movie as a recurring motif. Farley Granger's no-good wife sings it with her two dates while they're riding the bus to the carnival, with Robert Walker seated nearby, watching her. Then it's playing in the background when he strangles her. At the climax, it's blaring while the merry-go-round goes out of control and it speeds up to match the increasing pace of the broken machine. The main lyric is extremely relevant in every situation since it repeats "...and the band played on" in a cheerful way while the action on the screen is evil and dark, as a dramatic contrast.

I'm just starting to watch this movie right now it's amazing very good movie,I'm at the part where he's at his girlfriend's house and she tells him about the murder,

Norma Varden is the woman who gets almost strangled. She is wonderful playing bubbly silly socialite women who get murdered - check her out in Witness for the Prosecution. There is a reason that such brilliant directors as Hitchcock and Billy Wilder chose her. She is damned good.

@@roberttelarket4934 No, but I DO remember Marilyn marveling at the diamonds and saying 'They must be worth their weight in gold' and as for the tiara... "I love finding new places to wear diamonds.".

Outstanding movie by the master Hitchcock himself! All should have gotten Oscars except Granger and his girlfriend(both were very good but I didn't like the characters). Also loved the carousel song The Girl With the Strawberry Curls.

My favourite Hitchcock film, not least because of Robert Walker; he's such a creep in that film.

You can really hear how American she sounded in her later years compared to when she was younger. Barely a trace of a British accent.

Well, she was about 12 years old when she and her parents moved to the US. So unless I’m mistaken, I think that probably explains why she sounded pretty much American. Kind of like Veronica and Angela Cartwright. They were toddlers themselves when they and their parents emigrated from England to the US. That’s probably why their accents sound standard American.

Patricia Hitchcock says (half-jokingly) that a bit more nepotism would have enhanced her career. I couldn't agree more. I think Patricia Hitchcock was short-changed by her father - television aside, she was only cast in a few supporting roles and her appearance in Psycho was little more than a cameo. All due respect to Teresa Wright, but I think Pat Hitchcock could have aced the role of Charlie Newton in Hitch's dark thriller Shadow of a Doubt.
